I think Locche was the GREATEST defensive fighter ever. EVER. WHy? Because of all the other defensive fighting greats he's the one that didn't have anything else. His hand weren't that quick, he wasn't very athletic, no power to speak of BUT he won over 100 fights because you just couldn't hit him. Competition wasn't great I suppose but still 117 wins 4 losses and 14 draws and 1 no contest. For somebody whose only skill was his defense that is incredible. He did have 14 knockouts but shit after not hitting somebody to 10 rounds or so I'd bet those guys were exhausted more than knocked out.
@RobsterRulzDude05187 жыл бұрын
He(Locche) was what they call an anomoly(Sp?). Funny word. It means exceptionally different. He didnt look like a boxer. More like an accountant,or a highschool shop teacher.,especially with that badly receded hairline. Also,He smoked cigarrettes and barely trained. "Benitez" was the same as far as the training. I believe his only training was sparring. I dont think he did any roadwork or situps. Also with Benitez,he would take a nap just before his boxing matches,thus why he always entered the ring dry as a bone and also,check out "Benitez vs Shields". Benitez yawns as the ring announcer talks. I never saw a boxer yawn while in the ring getting ready for they're fight.

Lo de Nicolino no tiene comparación. Jamás ha existido un boxeador así. Willie Pep . Although he wasn't blessed with powerful hands, he was sure as hell blessed with, and worked towards having, immense footwork and defensive skills. What a legend. Great fights with saddler. Locche is very good it's a shame his overshadowed in the game because I feel like a lot of people can learn from him. El intocable. The only reason he isn't as known is due to most of his fights being in Argentina. All legends in this list. Great vid and great list. My personal and biased person I'd might put on my list would be Henry Armstrong. More of an offensive fighter ironically but his head positioning made it impossible for people to hit him and he was great at avoiding shots can probably be a better person defensively but I like Armstrong's use of head and shoulder as defense along with using the shoulder to set up shots.

But those guys you mentioned deserve to be there also, bar Tyson and Mayweather. I believe Mike Tyson's defensive system was thought to him . They were not naturally spontaneous. I admit he put a lot of hard work into his defense, but when the going got tough and after D'amato's demise, Mike lost his way and his defense went with it. I also believe Floyd Mayweather fought all the best fighter's he fought, when they were over the hill. I'm not saying he was not great, what I am saying is he did not prove it. A prime Ali, Gene Tunney, Jersey Joe Walcott and Chris Byrd were all more defensively sound than him, Tyson had a tendency to abandon defense when things weren't going his way but for an offensive fighter his defense was pretty good. He doesn't compare defensively to the 10 on this list.

Locche is my favourite too. I haven’t really seen anyone else in who can move the way he does and just his knowledge and understanding of distance / reach makes him “untouchable”. There is a lot of great defensive boxers with good footwork and head movement but from the looks of it he seems to be the hardest to hit out of all of them, opponents have such difficulty landing punches on him I haven’t seen anybody else quite that good at defensive head movement. they call him the untouchable and it’s not too far off from an understatement, he is literally untouchable.
