Great review. But one correction in that Kurt Barlow was not a Nosferatu in the book. That was the movie version of Barlow. King wrote Barlow as the “handsome-esque” typical vampire.

I'm not by and large a King fan (I don't mind the horror but the pacing of the novels is often too slow for me). Slow pace not withstanding, I've read 'Salem's Lot and liked it, I read The Mist and found it enjoyably chilling, I really loved Dolores Claiborne, and greatly disliked Pet Cemetary. The characters in that one just got on my nerves. I just finished Hearts in Atlantis, because of your review, and thought it was wonderful. Particularly enjoyed the Hearts and Blind Willie chapters. And I'm feeling tempted to try one of the Dark Tower books.
@tadreadsbooksstuff Жыл бұрын
Although, SK is my favorite author, not everything he writes is great or even good. And oh my can he be long winded lol. For instance, the first three Dark Tower books are awesome. But the next 5, although very important to the story, can be very boring a lot of the time.
@silverscreenpsychopathy Жыл бұрын
Nicely put. Of course I might have different books or different placement, but well done. You did say something fascinating, Why do I like Thinner? Maybe it was when I read it (paraphrasing). It's really interesting how we categorize books based on certain times in our lives. My all time 2 favorite King books are ''salem's lot' and 'pet sematary'. When I ask myself why that is, I realize that my memories are directly tied, not to the book itself, but what I was experiencing at the time. Well done video. 👍

Different strokes for different folks! I respectfully think you’re bonkers with your bookend picks of INSOMNIA @ #10 & IT @ #1. Everyone talks about “that scene” in IT, but for me, once you got to the Turtle and the Spider, I was asking for the check. Both books were major turnoffs for me. I’ve been reading King since they assigned SALEM’S LOT in high school (can you believe that?) and I have read ALL the books. You sold me with your rave about THINNER; what a great story and bleak ending! Wow! Really stays with you. MISERY, DRAWING OFTHE THREE, PET SEMATARY, you were right on. I enjoyed the personal touches you include as you went up the list; you are so right about how it’s not just the quality of the story, but WHEN you read it, and WHAT is happening in your life at the time. Keep reading; BILLY SUMMERS is very good! Thanks for reading this.
@tadreadsbooksstuff2 жыл бұрын
Lol, thank you for watching. I can be a little bonkers. Insomnia is super bloated but for some reason it has stayed with me. IT, for me, was the character development more than anything. Plus I love clowns! Salem’s Lot in school! I wish I went to that school.

Loved the video! Thanks for sharing. Some things: 1) I agree with Insomnia- I liked it and it probably gets more insult than it deserves! However, I can’t remember too much of the story, so for me it wasn’t as memorable as others but I remember enjoying it. 2) I read Pet Sematary maybe 5 years ago. To this day I stand by the claim that it is one of the creepiest/scariest books by Stephen King. I don’t normally get creeped out at night when reading a book, but that one did it for me! The screams, howling, and evil spirits surrounding the burial ground- spooky! 3) Stephen King’s It is up there in my favorites too and I fell in love with the characters as well. I grew attached to the Losers Club! The one thing that I absolutely hated about the book was “that scene” in the sewers. If you know, you know. That was one of those moments where I questioned what King was doing (or thinking) putting that in the book. Among many things, it wasn’t necessary in my opinion. There were other instances of sexual encounters that also made me uncomfortable and wishing he hadn’t put them in the story, but that sewer scene really takes the cake. The story would be nearly perfect to me if that wasn’t in there. Speaking of that, I think I’ll go search the web to see if he’s ever addressed that (I know there are others who share my disappointment/disgust of that scene). I like how you shared personal stories along with some of the books. Thanks again for posting! I’m always interested in hearing other people’s thoughts about works.

Nice list...some interesting choices: my personal theory on King is that, although I can put together a top 10 list, there really isn't much of a quality difference between #1 and around #25...so your personal list, anyone's personal list is just fine be me Having said that - my criteria is pretty simple, was I beyond completely satisfied...even to the point of wanting to read it again ( all my top 10 have been read a minimum of 3 times...or more) 10) Under The Dome 9)11/22/63 8) The Green Mile 7) The Dead Zone 6) The Talisman 5) The Long Walk 4) The Drawing of the Three 3) The Wastelands 2) Wizard and Glass 1) 'Salems Lot Honorable mention to The Mist

My top 10 Honourable Mentions : Firestarter The Drawing of the Three Billy Summers Carrie Thinner The Green Mile 10: Misery (movie is actually tied with the book for me, love them both!) 9: Revival (Love music, love the vibe, love the ending, even though I just sat down afterwards and thought about life forever) 8: Needful Things (last 15 pages suck but every single other part of the book is just pure fun chaos) 7: It (I'm surprised that this is actually this low but it's just where it sits, I've read it twice and the last time I read it in about 10 days) 6: Pet Sematary (My second King book and I'll never forget reading the last 100 pages literally shaking) 5: The Stand (Terrific book, so absorbing and fun to read about, it never felt long despite it's length) 4: Christine (Super fun book and I found it quite creepy while also being a really nice story at it's core) 3: The Dead Zone (Amazing book in every aspect, I won't let myself rant because it's so good!) 2: 11.22.63 (Same with The Dead Zone, I can't let myself rant, it's interesting that this book is kind of a mirror to 11.22.63 too) 1: Salem's Lot (So so so so scary, I love the characters, I love the town, I love Barlow and there are just so many scary memorable scenes)
