Todays "Tool Talk" is inspired by many videos I like watching this time of year. It is my Top 10 tools I am glad I purchased in 2022. I am looking at the tools that surprised me, made me more efficient, or my work more enjoyable. I bought others that could easily make the list... but these i feel would be the most universal and work for most people.
Let me know what you think and what was your favorite tool you purchased in 2022? If you have suggestions, or questions... let me know in the comments and THANKS FOR WATCHING!

The i5T takes one AA not a AAA, the i3T is the AAA. Both have the hat clip.

👍 Thanks for clearing that up… I ordered the i3T thinking that I ordered the same one I did the first time…(which was the I5T). I hadn’t changed the battery yet it lasts so long, that I read in the i3t AAA and was thinking they were the same. I like them both for what I use them for which is something small for just lighting up what’s right in front of me. Appreciate it 👍

@@MORGANSMaintenance no problem brother, I been buying Olight since they started back I like 2016 I believe with the small AAA i3E EOS in all different colors at 90 lumens for a tiny light, after awhile they blew up huge and have a big line now, to me they are the best, all my friends in law enforcement use the lights, I do mods on the lights and there is a FB group that does mods and you can’t get good info, I usually carry the i3T but I use a 10440 3.7V on it and it packs a major punch, a lot of us carry an extra battery because that extreme brightness causes it to get a bit hot and at full blast it’s so bright, it’s not rated for the 3.7V but the group uses it all the time and none of us have no issues with the LED blowing out, but it voids the warranty of course. It will only work on the i3T not the i5T with a 14500 3.7V lithium battery or it will blow for sure.

@@MORGANSMaintenance it will work but keep spare batteries because they do go out fairly easy, on the low setting it’s bright enough with that battery if you get more milliamp hours for runtime, but on high that thing is a massive bright flashlight if you need to light up an area for a short time. Pretty cool mod everyone uses. I have a pouch from Etsy that is an EDC pouch that can hold a few daily carries, check there stuff out to keep it all in one spot.

Hey Joey I have really enjoyed watching the progress of your channel. I especially appreciate that you are an active contractor and not just a KZbin personality that used to be one. It means a lot to see what a pro is actually using in the field. One EDC tool that I started using in 2022 is the WorkPro stainless belt clip utility knife. It’s super slim and fits into my right pant pocket easily. Just this Christmas season I bought the Milwaukee fastback knife with the screwdriver, that you carry. But I still haven’t opened the package😂. I hope your 2023 is absolutely awesome. Keep up the great work.👍👍👍

Yeah they put that Particular Fastback on sale since they were selling it with another knife for the $19.99 original price since the Black Friday sales started. Before they sold out you could get for $10. I think I have seen that knife on Amazon. They have multiple Work Pro knives but the one I looked at was really thin. I thought it probably fit nice in a pocket. I haven’t tried any Work Pro stuff because I hadn’t heard anyone talk about them much. I appreciate the suggestion. Thanks for the encouragement, I’ve learned a lot over the last year on KZbin. I actually never really set out to have a channel when I started, but decided to give it a go after I started getting feedback and getting to know people. I plan on working for as long as my body allows. I love doing it…. And I’m much better at it than I am an actor/cameraman/editor 😂

Great video! I was laughing through most of it because your list was incredibly similar to what mine would be with the exception of the drywall tools because I just never get into drywall work. My favorite tool became my favorite overnight, I got the knipex twin grip pliers for Christmas and first time I used them I asked myself why I waited so long to get them. Olight flash lights are the best, I have probably 6 or more different ones and always have one on me. Been looking into the Joey Bags, thanks for that part of the video, you answered my concerns. About the fast back Milwaukee knife (I have 2 and love them both and would never give one up), but a similar product is from Kershaw knives (I don’t recall the name, but it’s easy to find). They make a regular style pocket knife with the same type of screw driver set up except it has 4 different bits but even better it’s the standard small 1” bits and they store in the side of the handle. I like it because I can replace the standard bits with the ones I need handy in a pinch. Extremely affordable about same price as fast back.

And I grabbed one of the Railers as well to give it a try....I suspect I'll pick up more so that I have them on my house toolbag, my car tool bag, my work tool bag, and my garage toolbag. My favorite tool this year though was the Wera micro screwdriver 25 piece set. I had the smaller Wera set, and had been watching the 25 piece set for a long while. It normally runs about $112 to $150, and I lucked out one day and found it on Amazon for $99. I was mostly glad that I finally got the deal I'd been watching for! LOL. I love Wera stuff, so I felt like I won a lottery!

I had an I5T which is the AA batterie version like the one you showed and carried it everyday for about three years before having issues with the switch and a broken pocket clip. My favorite tool buy should be the Knipex PliersWrench ComfortGrip since I bought 2 for myself and 2 for my mechanic brother and they get a lot of use, but for $30 the 4" Cobra mini is in my EDC and I've already had a tool to fix a minor problem in the field in front of coworkers and bosses several times. It hurt a bit in 2019 to spend about $70 on a black Stanley set. But I can clearly see what size each one is, have both metric and imperial, 3/8 and 1/4 inch. I've used them a LOT. And if I want to downsize and get a smaller set, that set is now $130! I was living in the Caribbean, and it's probably the only metal thing I have that didn't rust!

Also, whatever brand socket I have, I use a paint marker to put the sizes all around the socket. I like those Milwaukee sockets, but most of the time you can't see the size. Needs to be in 3 or 4 places.

I know several people who like that screwdriver. I am an ECX bit fan myself. I bought a double ended one to keep in my original Klein 11-1 and I also keep both sizes in bit drivers in my MCT ready to go. It would have been nice for them to put the markings in more places. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I kept them in my toolbox, but these ride in my truck so they aren’t always “right side up” when I open them. Appreciate you sharing your favorite tool. 👍

Right now where I live it's -4°C/24°F. A week ago it was -10°C/14°F. And it started to snow heavily. And of course I had to do some outdoor job using 2-storey high scaffolding. At my local building material supplier I've found work gloves made of rubber foam. They're 100% waterproof, but don't give you sweaty palms. They're thin enough to work with small elements or screws, but they give a decent insulation in below 0°C conditions. That's my tool revelation of 2022 (and Knipex Smartgrip pliers, but it's Knipex, so it's obvious). Summary videos are a good idea, because of their informative value.

Been looking for that Icon bit socket for a year. Never in stock. The fastback with the screwdriver is awesome. Have that or the leatherman skeletool in a pocket Nice light. I just found the Milwaukee inspection light with laser on sale for $30 instead of $50. Bought 2. Told the wife and kids it’s what I wanted. 50 is too much. 30 while pricy is ok for the quality of light and having multiple so can charge one while using. They don’t charge fast so need 2 but the bite end, the run time(couple hours on high) the light quality. My wife was upset when she found I bought 2 after telling her to get me 1 for Christmas. I told her not to worry. I started with the usb rovers this year and liked the light so much more than my other little lights I spent a lot on Milwaukee rechargeable lights even only getting on sales. The light quality is just better I hate using non Milwaukee lights now. Waiting for that new one to go on sale. 100 or 150 is too much. But I have plenty of those batteries now, so I see a decent price I’ll snatch 1 or 2. Was excited for my twin grips. They are ok. Don’t regret them at all. Just always have to use the dremel to cut a slot and a flat screwdriver to get the bad ones started. I have the M12 rotary. Not a new tool but I always have with me, use all the time. If I wasn’t on M12 I don’t know what other brand I’d go with. You need swappable batteries in my opinion. While I always learn something from these videos and have found some good tools, I have to take them with a grain of salt as so much of the gear looks like it has never been off the bench top, much less seen a work site. I love a clean and organized kit, but the reality of getting stuff done is that things stop looking brand new in pretty short order. Even the tools in computer clean rooms get patina from use. No grease, no paint, no dust, no dirt, no scuffs, no scratches, no tears, no frayed edges means you're either not using it, or so obnoxiously OCD that things take forever to complete. Hell, if I had the ability to make money from collecting tools and writing them off as business expenses for video production, I'd love it and can't blame anyone who does, but if I guy comes on with a dirty, grimey, scratched tool he's been using and abusing on the job for a year and gives it a recommendation, good or bad, I'll trust that over the guy discussing his favorite ones of his thousands of dollars of unblemished gear that he's collected/bought/been given over the last year.

@@MORGANSMaintenance I can appreciate that and have seen other videos of your truck load out that has pretty clearly seen plenty of use and more usual wear and tear, it's just when the bags and tools on the bench look brand new... like BRAND brand new... it's reasonable to question how much use that particular gear really sees. I can clearly see the use and wear on the drywall gear, the fast back and the flashlight, but some of the other stuff looks absolutely perfect. Hell, I've got some tools I really love but don't use specifically to keep them in good shape, like a 2017 limited-edition US-made Craftsman ratchet & socket set in blue chrome, but my daily carry, mechanic, plumbing and electrician gear are inevitably worn and dirtied to some extend with nearly every use. Some will clean up with a little spray and a blue rag, but those ones that look untouched I think it's okay to have that grain of salt to go with what is otherwise a really great video with a ton of great info.

@aaronsbarker I understand completely. I have so many tools it’s impossible for me to wear them all out (don’t tell my wife, she is under the impression I still need some 😂) Most the ones on my bench (or even my garage) in videos see very little action. They are all spares, or things that have been replaced with something else I prefer, or am trying out. If it’s not in my truck, it’s not getting used often. Tools are my thing. I know I buy way too many, but it’s what I like and spend my extra money on. I decided to make videos just so people can see some of them before they spend their money. Early in my career I didn’t have the funds to have many misses on tools. Nothing I hated worse than spending money on a tool and find out it didn’t do something I thought it did. My goal is to help people avoid that if I can. Like I said, I get it from people on KZbin and also from people I work around when they see me cleaning my tools. I know I’m a little overboard on it, but it’s how I prefer to keep my stuff. It never bothers me and I appreciate someone’s honest take on what they see anytime. I know, it’s pretty sweet. I saw it on Facebook Marketplace one day but it was like 3 hours away from me. Soon as I saw it, I was like, “well I have to have that”. I wasn’t going to drive 6 hours for it, but I Finally found one on eBay in good shape. I thought it was going to be like a 20oz tumbler size.. way bigger than I thought.

Yeah I am not sure what’s up with the supply of them. I don’t go in my store often… but I’ve never seen them in stock. I had to end up ordering mine and shipping it to my house. $180 is a bit crazy. So did you get the 5 sets total? Or went to 3 stores and didn’t find any?

Start buying tools made to and stamped with iso standards

I buy many tools that I feel can help me or someone else… or a good value for their quality. I’m a big believer in buying quality… but a price also has to make sense for how much I will use it. I spend more on certain tools based on what they do, and how often I get them out.

Just purchased some wiha Allen keys stamped iso number and made in Germany. Fit is precise. Looking up some of the brands they often have industrial tools stamped that get sold through authorised dealers and franchisees only. Wera, I vessel and pbswiss are not stamped. Snapon is the same

They have the last several. It’s near the end of March. The free bags are different. The last couple years there have been two tiers. You buy a bag out of Tier 1 you get a certain bag for free, and the same with Tier 2. Usually the Tiers are based on prices, you buy a more expensive bag you get a better free one. Great time to get a two bags…. You can sell one to get yours cheaper, go in with a buddy and split the cost… or keep them both 😂

I checked it for someone before and It was either 31.8 or 32.8 pounds. I’d have to double check. I prefer multiple smaller bags, but now that I work out of my truck more I transitioned to 100% MCT to save space.

I haven’t had any problems with either one of mine. My one pretty much stays the flip socket but I swap the other one quite often between several bits. There is a little tab inside the handle that puts pressure on the shafts… maybe yours isn’t set right? Maybe someone else will chime in if they are having the same problem.

@MORGANSMaintenance

No not really, but I also primarily have 6.0 Batteries and haven’t used it for really long lengths of time. (Like full days or anything) Has that been your experience with it? I think the longest I have used it at one time is maybe 2 hours or so putting siding on a house…. Or sometimes I have used it to help dry drywall patches. Mostly I use it for service calls that aren’t very long.

@@phillipmoody710 I’ve had two 6.0 batteries die out in me… I was able to jump one and lost the other… no issue with any other size batteries. Since you say this I am curious what charger you use. Hanging drywall… I swap that pouch around for all sorts of fasteners. I don’t get that dusty when I hang drywall, maybe I’m doing it wrong 😂 I get more sawdust on me when I frame than Sheetrock dust hanging drywall. I also use a leaf blower to blow myself off before putting my stuff up.
