My TOP 10 Malazan characters (at the halfway point)

wow what a list! Very unusual to have the Mhybe (your usual pronunciation is correct btw) and Felisin in the top 10... but your reasons are solid of course, and it's always cool to see how different people are compelled by different aspects of these books And yes I saw Kruppe coming at #1. What's interesting about him is -- this list will probably change a lot based after you read the back half of the series, from things these characters do and go through, as well as new characters that you'll love. But I will predict that Kruppe will stay #1. Won't say why obviously, but just calling it out now :) :) Great video, see you in Jan/Feb after you read Bonehunters!

Banger video. Banger list. All of these characters are incredible, so it's hard to argue that any of them don't deserve their place on it. Not sure who I would take off to put Kalam on there, but Kalam is one of my favorites. I agree so much about Felisin, Karsa, and Kruppe. Love the way you talk about them and Malazan in general man. I want an hour long video of you breaking down all the nuances of how brilliant and epic the first section of House of Chains is. 🙏

My two favorite character have to be Fidler and Karsa. Krasa is especially impressive, since I started out hating the guy. But the way Erikson develops that character and the way that the writing itself changes around that character to reflect that development just pushes him on to that whole other level. And I mean Fiddler is just the best. ^^ ps: "Witness" is just Teblor for "Hold my beer.". pps: Malazan has many great characters. I can easily list 50 characters that would be favorite characters in any different series. Kalam, Quick Ben, Hellian, Corabb, Duiker, Leoman,... the list is long.

As a Malazan stan, I approve of this. We all love a favourite Malazan characters list. I swear this will change when you finish the book. Even the next book has another bunch of loved characters. You haven't met the most badass of them all.

In terms of duos, Toc and T'ool are my favourite in the series. I love Tehol and Bugg don't misunderstand me they're easily the funniest but for me Toc and T'ool I was more emotionally connected with. Fiddler, Trull and Rhulad Sengar, Karsa Orlong, Apsalar, Felisin, Kalam and Quick Ben, Karlot, Tattersail are what immediately came to mind for other favourites, of the first half at least. There is another character I want to mention but i don't remember if he's a POV for you yet but he's definitely been mentioned. I regret it wasn't until my re-read of GotM after finishing the series i came to love Whiskeyjack. Until I couldn't have cared less about him.

Funny story, I'm actually not ... But that edition is the exclusive store edition of the bookshop I used to work in. It's mentioned in the book. I much prefer his short fiction and his raunchy letters to his wife Nora 🤣 so I do technically still have great taste 😝
