TMPanos96 not exactly high status. Marlon Brando’s looks, physique, and dominating presence channeled through the character of Stanley is what turns a woman on. A man could be a serial killer and still be sought after by many woman if he posses such characteristics. Look at how they hyper-sexualized Ted Bundy.

I think he's perfect for the role as Stanley. I feel as if Stanley's looks--much like Brando's--has a lot to do with why Stella is so in love with him and keeps coming back to him. It's that sexy, raw, manliness that allows her to be so attracted to him and not leave him. I think that says a lot for how Williams wanted the audience to feel about Stanley as well. It makes the experience much more frustrating and tense.
@SexySkoChick3 жыл бұрын
THAT'S how I FEEL too! 😱 Stanley was meant to be SOO unbelieveably ATTRACTIVE and it makes it hard for Stella and Blanche to even FOCUS around the man 😂🔥😏🥵😳

There's a clip on youtube of Williams talking about when he first met Brando before the play was released. Apparently Brando was a day late and showed up and fixed his toilet and then read for the part and he was flabbergasted and said he'd never seen such a reading in his life. He instantly knew he was Stanley.

Rape is a very serious topic and is nothing to joke about....however, all the girls who are saying "I'd let him rape me" are obviously just making a joke about the movie. If a girl lets a man rape her it is no longer considered rape and is consensual. They're just making a statement about how good looking Marlon Brando was back in the 50's. I see what you're saying though because there are some abusive relationships out there.
@entertain7us1484 жыл бұрын
i appreciate you pointing this out. as a woman, i can admit no-problem that dominance can be very very sexy in a man. but actually being abused non-consensually is never a turn-on, it's terrifying and traumatic. the great thing about film is it offers a fantasy where you can both appreciate how gorgeous Brando was and find his entire presence alluring and sexy without actually finding misogyny, violence and abuse in real life attractive.

If Stanley had been anything less than incredibly good looking he would have been intolerable. With Brando as the lead it brings about an uncomfortable feeling of attraction that is at the core of the film for me. If the film is meant to be more about Blanche, well yes he was miscast lol

@versioncity112 жыл бұрын
What fundamentally makes streetcar such a good film is the writing by Williams. The Characters are 'full' - they are not one dimensional, good or bad. Stanley is boorish, but also sensitive, violent but tender. Likewise Blanche on one hand could be seen as fragile & caring but in another light as neurotic & narcissistic. - Add to this the quality of the actors & director & you have 'great' film. Even if you don't like it its hard to fault on a technical or artistic level.

The cadence of his voice vs Blanche shows how he was bringing acting to new level vs her scripted acting.

Brando of course said he hated Stanley. 'I detest the character. He's everything I'm against. Cruel, crude -with only his own whimpering insistence on having his own way.' Brando's mother also hated Stanley and very likely indentified with Blanche. From what I've read about Brando written by his friends, he was more clever and calculating than Stanley and could mess with people's minds, talk them into things and control them. Lost, lonely people. 'They can focus on me. I can help them.'
