I was obsessed with Raging Bull when I was little. I didn’t ride it, I was terrified of coasters, but I just loved the look of that ride.
@dashkatae2 жыл бұрын
Makes sense Velocicoaster's pacing is low, the first half of the ride isn't extremely fast. It only hits 70mph during the second launch and loses most of that speed once it hits the top hat. Not entirely sure how fast it goes through that second half but regardless, the ride is still amazing.

I just had a good idea, what if you made a series describing coasters in just one sentence! Each episode you could do a different park or something. You could also do "Describing coaster manufacturers in just one sentence" or something along those lines. Idk why this came to mind but I think it could make for a fun and interesting series! Just thought I might suggest it!
@OklahomaCoasterFan2 жыл бұрын
I was guessing that GhostRider wouldn't have the best pacing numbers. Steel Vengeance being in the middle for pacing makes sense, because the 2nd half smaller elements are slower, but it doesn't feel slower because the shape of the elements are just right for the speed at the moment. That's more of what I think of with pacing, not how much ground is covered per second, but whether it's doing something interesting with whatever speed it has. Steel Vengeance is excellent in that regard. A super fast but forceless helix or straight track is a pacing problem, even if it helps the ride on the per second stat.

This was the best: my favourite series about your favourite coasters. If you think "The Voyage" has a small drop for its length for a coaster with one lift hill: Shivering Timbers has a 107' drop and has a total track length of 5,383' (merely one foot less than T-Express) and the prime ride time is about 95 seconds. That makes Shivering Timbers the most efficient coaster in the world. Thanks for posting!

@@AirtimeThrills but Pythagorean Theorem and RCDB!! 😜
@OklahomaCoasterFan2 жыл бұрын
Beast has a lot of PRT, maybe more than Voyage, but it's broken up by that 2nd lift hill. There are probably slow family coasters with more nonstop PRT than Voyage, but those wouldn't match the quality of Voyage. Pepsi Orange Streak is broken up by a small lift hill in the middle, but taking that out, you have over 100 seconds of PRT. But you're going very slow the whole time.
@_AT412 жыл бұрын
You could web scrape RCDB and bake your calculation into a Python script to get PRT for every coaster.

I hope this doesn't come off too critically or anything, but I had a thought as I was watching the part about Raging Bull and you said it was ~6ft/s slower than Diamondback, then I also saw RB moved at 58ft/s; or ~10% slower movement. Could be a useful little way to help quantify the difference when including statistics like that.
@ChrisInIndy062 жыл бұрын
also, another point I would find something like this useful is when you bring up the ride time of Voyage vs. X2. You say it's a full 62 seconds longer than X2, but perhaps a more useful metric would be "it's almost three times the prime ride time of X2." Again, sorry for the pedantry, as I'm probably one of few people who care enough about this and do this math in my head anyway

Kind of interesting you don't consider Lightning Rod a 'traditional launching coaster." It uses lsms and like Intamin's first full circuit lsm coaster (Maverick), it's uphill. Who would say that's not carrying on a tradition? I know, I know Duane Marden (rcdb) calls them lsm lift hills and not launches. Got it!
@AirtimeThrills2 жыл бұрын
That is a good point, but I feel like it could be replaced with a lift chain and the ride would pretty much be the same. You can't say that about just about any other launch coaster in the world.
@timk9872 жыл бұрын
@@AirtimeThrills I get it. I have yet to ride Lightning Rod (more specifically, it has yet to be open on my visits), but I think it would fall out of favor with many fans without the launch. While it may not feel like what you'd expect, it's faster than Manta's lsm launch at SeaWorld San Diego and at least 20mph faster than Skyrush's cable lift. So you might be surprised how much you'd miss it.

I feel like pacing should be more than just ft/sec or avg speed. Clearly a 300 foot coaster will have better pacing by this metric than a 100 ft coaster even though the 100 fr coaster might travel through it elements faster at the peak or at least relatively. I dunno some sort of top speed divisor seems appropriate. Like 100 mph= 2 and 50 mph =1. or maybe consider the number and size of the elements in relation to the top height. All of the RMCs definitely feel way faster paced than the B&Ms. the hit their hills faster and have more back to back elements. Just my 2c
