Yes you should do, even a top 100, as would be enjoyable. Part of the variety of the lists is also due to how people classify the genre as for example some include thrillers and sci-fi in the horror genre.@@MuckMan_Movies

In my opinion Peter Jackson's Braindead, Barkers Hellraiser, Fulcis Zombie, Romeros Dead Trilogy, Raimis Dead Trilogy, From Dusk till Dawn, Scream 1 are better that half of your list. Tenebre is my favorite Argento. In my opinion is Gullermo Del Toro is overhyped. For me his movies are OK, nothing special. Not many people see the austrian movie ANGST 1983 with Erwin Leder, in my opinion it is the best psycho thriller with great camera work. And POSSESSION 1981 is THE art house horror movie ever time. Thank you for sharing your list of 25 favorite horror films! I appreciate your choices, even though 'Martin' by George A. Romero and 'The Brood' by David Cronenberg are personal favorites of mine. It's always interesting to see how varied the horror genre can be, and your list has certainly sparked some great discussion. While I do agree with most of your picks, I must admit that I see 'Pan's Labyrinth' as more of a fantasy film, 'Gremlins' as having a strong comedic element, and 'Blade II' as having superhero vibes. 'Halloween' from 1978, it's a classic for me , even though I understand it might be more of an honorary mention for you for me is top 25 . Thanks again for sharing your list
@MuckMan_Movies Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. Horror comes in many guises. I don't understand why people can't see that. Gremlins is a horror comedy with some very dark moments. Blade II is a vampire movie with some gory moments. Pan's Labyrinth is a fantasy horror with some horrific moments such as the General smashing the man's face in with a bottle or the stuff of nightmares pale man scene. Horror shouldn't have to be as straight laced and obvious as a lot of people on here seem to think.

To those shuddering at his inclusion of Gremlins. I have been watching horror films with my dad since I was 5 and the only movie that he almost made us walk out of was Gremlins. He was genuinely disturbed watching these monsters joyously tormenting this town with demonic glee as the audience roared with laughter. But thats what I love about Spielberg-produced horror, he often uses a family-friendly story template to trick audiences into feeling safe and fuzzy and then almost subliminally lays on the scares. It’s only much later that one realizes just how the dark themes/ideas that were underneath the surface really were.

lol, since when is over-acting a problem! Ha! Of course I’m kidding, but when the choices are as interesting as Cage makes I really think it’s art, especially if the film is as great as Mandy. And, btw, the first time I saw it I had the same feeling as you about the second half. I am not a huge fan of fight films, so superficially I was turned off. But I was drawn back to the film again, and the second time noticed the absolutely STUNNING and ultra-ambiguous ending. Then thinking about Shakespeare’s many revenge plots, I realized I needed to give that second half another watch. The third time I watched I realized what a masterpiece the film is. I cannot wait for his next feature. In my opinion, Cosmatos is our best young living director. Better than Astor, as he allows his film to end in ambiguity. We shall see if that pans out, but I have high hopes.

i suggest 'empire of passion' by nagisa oshima, kiyoshi kurosawa's 'cure' (and 'creepy'), as well as na hong-jin's 'the wailing' and 'the chaser'. so many broadly fit into horror, there's a very good chance you've seen some / all of these.

Yes, I've watched Dracula many times. I feel like the 2nd act suffers a little compared to the incredibly atmospheric 1st act. Great film but I prefer Frankenstein from that era. Great list. I especially like that you added [REC] and The Descent who are in my top 10 list of favorite horror flicks. The Fly, The Thing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, all excellent choices. I would add, The Beyond by Lucio Fulci. It has everything: Lovecraftian mythos, possession, haunted house, zombies, just all around great. Speaking of Lovecraft, a movie clearly inspired by the lore is the Canadian horror film from 2016 The Void.

Your list is biased toward modern horror films. Why?

Onibaba and Frankenstein, I would agree. But the vast majority of the films in your Top 25 are modern in the sense of being from the modern era, which in my opinion includes the 1970s or later, as opposed to the black-and-white world of the 1930s through the early 1960s.

@BrianR2395 Жыл бұрын
Well, if I do make my own video, it will certainly NOT be based on a list of films "I grew up with", which I think shortchanges the whole idea. Since reaching adulthood, I've had the opportunity to discover, appreciate, and enjoy some truly great horror films that existed long before I was born and which I never even heard of when I was growing up. Many of them are among my own Top 25 favorites, along with some later films I actually did "grow up with". But whether I grew up with them -- or not -- has nothing to do with whether they'd be included in my list.
