Thanks for the new rec! 🥂 My favorite book of 2023 has to be Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix. The story got progressively more disturbing as the story progressed but also possessed a certain absurd humor too. As a horror girlie, I loved it and will absolutely reread someday.

Harlan Coben books are fun! I love his style, and he adds a good touch of humor to his characters. I've read a bunch but I recommend The Woods most, at least so far. I haven't read his newest ones. But that and I think Don't Let Go and Stay Close are also good! I also didn't mind Survive the Night. I had fun reading it and enjoyed the movie references and road trip theme. ☺️ I've wanted to try The Pines so I'm glad to hear it's on your list! Happy reading for 2024, Nakia!! 🍾 🥂

I think Chamber of Secrets is underrated. I love that one, and I love the movie. I don't have a favorite from 2023, but one I had a lot of fun with was Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney.

Great video, Nakia! In no particular order, my top five reads would be All The Sinners Bleed (S.A. Cosby), Everybody Knows (Jordan Harper), The River We Remember (William Kent Krueger), IQ (Joe Ide), and Small Mercies (Dennis Lehane). Honorable mentions to All The Light We Cannot See (Anthony Doerr), Behind Closed Doors (B.A. Paris), The Little Liar (Mitch Albom), Dark Ride (Lou Berney), and Ozark Dogs (Eli Cranor). These types of lists are hard so hard to do, right? Having been reading for many decades, my filter is pretty well defined. I trust my book referral sources and they hardly ever steer me wrong. It's a pleasure to find your channel, Nakia. It's January 21st and I still have the champagne glass in my hand...lol.

The Only One Left was one of my favorites of the year! I also liked The Last Word by Taylor Adams. I think Chamber of Secrets is my second favorite HP. My favorite being Prisoner of Azkaban.🥂

I had a few surprises in my reading year too, my favorites were “How to Sell a Haunted House” by Grady Hendrix (his books are an acquired taste, but I love them, lol), “All the Dangerous Things” by Stacy Willingham and “Stranded” by Sarah Goodwin. I didn’t meet my reading goal unfortunately, but I still had a lot of fun with these books!

Can you recommend any other Harlan Coben books that you liked? I will find you was the first Coben book I'd read and I loved it, but then I started The Boy In The Woods and it was a DNF :-/ I've heard from a lot of people he can be a bit hit and miss.

I'm in the same boat as you @paulinthepages (love the name). I've only read I Will Find You but I've had people recommend these Harlan Coben books that are supposed to be good... "Fool Me Once", "The Stranger", and "Tell No One". I know "Fool Me Once" was turned into a Netflix limited series so that one should be good. If you read any of them and end up liking them please let me know.

🥂 So i too had several favorite books, hard to narrow it down to just one PLUS last year was my year to fall back in love with reading. I'll tell you my top 6 😂: The Diamond Eye, Kate Quinn | The Other Mrs., Mary Kubica | Seven Days in June, Tia Williams (this could probably be 1 or 2) | Ready Player One, Ernest Cline | A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, Holly Jackson | Fourth Wing, Rebecca Yarros. All of these books got 5 stars (i think 7 Days in June got 4.5 stars rounded up, it had corny moments but it was a feel good overall) and i just remember being excited to pick these books back up to know what happened next!!

Best book overall/book that got me the most angry: Kindred by Octavia E.Butler. This book made me feel so many emotions and got me the most fired up. I feel the burning in my chest just thinking about that book. Fantastic read, but a hard read. Best book that made me feel ill: Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent. The things that happen in the book literally made me feel sick to my stomach. This book did not bring me joy, but I had to give it 5 stars since it made me nauseated. It was very well written but it has so many trigger warnings. (This book is not for you Nakia.) Most fun books: Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell and The Demon Sword Asperides by Sarah Jean Horwitz. They are adventurous and humorous. (Demon sword is a middle grade book you might like Nakia.) Cutest books: The two Garlic books. I gave both books 5 stars. It brought me so much joy. Best books that made me cry: Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon and The Six Deaths of the Saint by Alix E. Harrow. Both happen to be one of the longest (625 pages) and shortest (30 pages) books I read last year. Both are very well written. Best book I want to see adapted to film: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. It is my longest book of the year, but it sure didn’t feel like it. I want to read all of his books now. Best Nonfiction: Gory Details by Erika Engelhaupt and The World Record Book of Racist Stories by Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar. I don’t read a lot of nonfiction, so it is quite a feat to make my top books. Most beautifully written book: The Crane Husband by Kelly Barnhill. Very lyrical, but also has trigger warnings. 🥂🍾
