Oathsworn has replaced Dune Imperium as my all time favorite board game. My son and I have been playing through this together and having a great time. The thrill of playing through the story and then immediately unboxing your new baddie to paint and fight has been nothing short of phenomenal. Dwellings I picked up when it finally became available after seeing you hype this on your videos. It's a great game and so much replayability with all of the factions. My gaming group has enjoyed every play of this game. The hype was well earned.

I have 3 of these games... Blood Rage, Root, and Oathsworn and they are all good. I might be missing out on the other two, but that's ok. What I do appreciate is keeping your list to 5 games. I find top 100 game lists pointless and boring, and mainly just channel fillers. I really don't care what someone's seventy-third favorite game is.

I think that depends on who is doing the ranking. If someone is doing a top 100 and they’ve only played 120 and half of those only once…they yeah, it doesn’t make sense. But if you are someone like most of the people at the dice tower, then a top 100 for them is just a tiny fraction of all the games they’ve played…which means they are all fantastic…at least to them.

Awesome video, what a great production! I backed Andromedas Edge All In. I missed Dwellings and AE looks like a really good successor! Can’t wait for it to arrive next year. I’m curious and torn about Oathsworn but not sure because of its price… and it seems to be a real table hog. But Isco love great story telling! I only played Blood Rage on BGA so far. Really enjoyed it! Can’t buy it though as we mostly only play with two players… Blood Rage really sucks at two. Unfortunately…

I've never played Oathsworn. The Kickstarter was at the same time Monster Hunter World was, so I went with that instead. I really need to play that game. As for my favorite game, I have to go with Project Elite by CMON. The frantic action still gets me hyped. Shout out to my fellow Wolf Pack. I was surprised that Marvel Champions didn't make your list. We definitely need that top 10 video.

Now you have me interested in project elite 🔥 AH I considered it, but currently, I think MC keeps coming out with too many expansions to keep up with. Blood Rage - hadn't played it in awhile, and I THINK you just prevented me from selling off my promos from the last kickstarter. (I had the promos from the original kickstarter, so the monsters, at least, I felt I didn't need the "duplicates"). Oathsworn, I own, but I'm waiting for my group to finish Frosthaven before I thrust another campaign game on them, but you've got me thinking I should solo this while I wait. And Dwellings.... you've changed my "I'm thinking about this" to "MUST GET".

OMG if you love blood rage, I'd highly recommend holding onto those promos because everything is either 10x overpriced or extremely hard to find!! I'm still hunting for random pieces of it still like the sixth optional faction! yess to oathsworn! I feel like playing it solo would at least prep you for questions when diving into it co op! I'd definitely recommend aquatica the most then! you simply play a card from your hand and do it's actions, and once you start getting the location cards, it's not overwhelming at all because you'll learn the icons one at a time! if you get a chance to try that one, let me know how it went for you!

Okay, story time about Aquatica... I got it from my local game shop. Open it, and saw water damage on the center of the board. Mind you, BRAND NEW out of the shrink wrap. Exchanged it for another copy, same damage in the same spot. Went back and the store owner opened a copy brand new, same damage in the same spot. I know the game plays well, but that experience alone with Aquatica has made me hate that game with a burning passion. Bought several games, never had an issue with damaged components until now.

I love Bloodrage & Dwellings. I haven’t played Aquatica or Oathsworn- they seem very appealing. I played Root once and didn’t really enjoy it. I’m also not a fan of the artwork- it grates with me. I’d need a lot more convincing to play it again.

There's a ton of weighted negotiation (nothing like party games) in that the table talk really has a fun impact on everyones' decision-making + if you have a person guiding everyone on their factions and their options, the gameplay would run smoothly!

My biggest gripe with dwellings is not with the killing monster reward. I think the color bonus combined with the fact that the monster isn't terrorizing you any more is reward enough. The ONLY thing I wish they'd done better is the end game point scoring. To me, a lot of it feels both circular and redundant. You get this many points for green because you spent the game boosting the green track... and then all your dwellings and cards in green are worth that much because that was the way you boosted green in the first place. I would've preferred if each tableau card had its own VP value, with more powerful in game effects saddled with a lower VP value, etc. All that said, Dwellings is still in my top 3 games ever for sheer fun, table presence, and yet plenty of delicious tactical and strategy considerations as well. There's a ton of dice rolling in the game, but in my experience (60+ plays) the better player wins every time.

I don't mind the color bonus since elements are constantly switched out each game, but some of the tableau cards do potentially add different points from collecting different treasure tokens; i do love the idea behind each one being worth different VPs though-that would be a fun idea to explore for sure! love that it's still in your top 3 regardless! curious to know what you think when AE is out next year!

Nice presentation. 😃👌🏼 And very interesting games. I really would like to try out Root, but I think I do not have the right gaming group for that game since it only can really shine when it's played more often. But I love another game with also a strong asymmetry (even if not on the same level as Root). It's Cthulhu Wars. Man, I love that game 🙌🏼 In Oathsworn I really liked the Story and the visual presentation and the creative ideas to bring the different creatures to life with their own behavior. They fighting mechanic though was to puzzle-like for my taste and I did not lime that I always knew what exactly the monster would do on it's next turn. So the fight actually did not feel like a fight with anticipating, tension, surprises and so on but more like puzzling. Competently executed for sure but not the experience I look for. I really love Sword & Sorcery from the bottom of my heart and I'm really looking forward for Primal the Awakening. While the first one has a nice adventurous feel, with tactical fights and exploration the last one has an interesting card combo system and the players fight single big monsters on a very small board with only a limited positioning possibilities. The biggest part of the game is the anticipation of the monsters actions by given hints on the back of the behavior cards of it and playing effective card combos to defeat them. 😊

extremely excited to play the fully produced AE FOR SURE!! For Oathsworn, you control a party of 4! How it works is you choose any number of characters to play in full (with their set of cards), and the rest are played as companions. The companions still have a roughly equal strength, but they're just easier/faster to manage since you would use just 2 of their abilities instead of a deck of cards. You could choose to do that with all 4, but I usually play with one full character + 3 companions to speed up the game, and it's worked amazingly! Thank you so much for watching!

Great top 5 list, I haven't gotten a chance to play Oathsworn but I suspect I will love it. Root only one for me personally I do not enjoy. Mechanics are sound and I understand why many love it. Likely the issue is a few things but as I often am the one teaching the game having to teach asymmetric abilities to each new person can for me be tedious.

I don't care for fantasy and monster themes, but Root has the area control, combat, special ability cards, and asymmetric characters. It's a war game, but playful and cute, which I enjoy.

awesome video! ... but isn't Andromeda's Edge supposed to render Dwellings of Eldervale obsolete? since it is the same game (albeit space rethemed) but way better after the designers heard and remedied all the feedback they received from Dwellings of Eldervale fans.

Oh FAR from that actually! I wouldn't necessarily say AE renders dwellings obsolete but moreso tightens some mechanics (targeting in combat, more mobile movement, long range fighting, etc.). Their core is the same, but some major changes were added in to the point where they feel like different games moreso than a reskin (thoughts from the prototype***)

@@TimChuon oh wow! I had completely misunderstood the differences between the two, thank you for clarifying that for me : ) ... I did back Andromeda's Edge, so I will play it once I receive it, and then compare it to playthroughs in KZbin of Dwellings of Eldervale, to determine whether I "NEED" to own both, thank you !
