The beautiful thing about pipes is the memories one has with a certain pipe. It may not be the most expensive pipe but it makes you happy because of those memories and emotions. Kind of like watches for people that are into watch collecting.

Ah brilliant to see you back. I got myself for christmas brand new pipe. My first nice one, it's a peterson army mount straight billiard from their "derry range" with a lovely rusticated bowl and a sort of caremel looking stem. Smokes liike a dream.

Would you consider a session on how you clean your pipes. They are all very nice. My rims tend to get dark despite careful lighting and care. Great collection.

Richard, this solution will seem a bit strange. Coat the bowl rim with saliva, thick coat mind. Wait a minute, now take a soft cloth and wipe the rim. The enzymes in your saliva dissolve the black lava. Repeat until clean, and polish the rim with food grade wood wax. In the event the lava is really thick use a hand sanitizer 75% alcohol but only wait 30 seconds before wiping off. Use this ONLY for severe cases.

Great video Kevin. It’s been awhile. I have been searching my birth year pipe for years. I was conceived and born in 1946 and have yet to find a verifiable pipe manufactured in that year. I do wish the pipe manufacturers would stamp a date on their pipes. Thanks for the video and stay warm. 💨💨

Hi Bob, you should be able to determine the nomenclature for a 1946 Dunhill. You’ll need to do some research, but I believe many from that year will be stamped “MADE IN ENGLAND” with a “6” (for 1946) followed by “PAT. NO. 417574/34”.

I just got a Brebbia "Bronzo" author much like that Savinelli you showed first. I agree, it's like a baseball - an object that is perfectly designed to be held in the human hand. I often pick it up just to hold it. It's a little on the heavy side, but the heft is part of the way it feels in the hand. It's got a 9 mm filter and is a nice smoke. The outside of the bowl stays nice an comfy - just a faint hint of warmth.

Great video. I've smoked pipes and cigars off and on since I was 30. I'm 52 now. There wasn't a ytpc to reference for most of my smoking years and I've come to a realization that I missed out on so many delights. I was a cheap smoker. Smoking just to smoke really. And your video today and other videos that I've watched recently has really opened my eyes to the true joy of it all. Your pipe review entertained and interested me. Good afternoon Kevin. Good to see you. Nice collection of favorite pipes. I have a Neerup Churchwarden that I smoke Sunbear in. I have an Ascorti Christmas 1986 that I smoke holiday blends in. I am partial to Mauro Armellini pipes when I can find them among estate pipes. I have a selection of Nording pipes I gravitate towards as well. It's a brisk 1 degree here today. I'm enjoying Reiners 71 Gold Flake in a Savinelli Tundra 611 EX. Have a good one and que the happy music!

My fav briar is a Petersons diamond shank Rhodesian style bent Dracula. That might be because it is the only briar pipe I own :) I smoke mostly meerschaums. Outside in winter I'll smoke a cob or one of my old pears. One of these days I might get some more briars, but no hurry :) Thanks for the vid.

- Castello - Savinelli - Stanwell (Yes! Incredible bang for the buck.) I have too many of them all, and they are all fantastic! I have a few Petersons after my father. They are excellent both in smoking and looks, but I don't like the "spitbowl" below the shank. I don't need it, and it is just setting you up for groceness. Dunhill pipes are very good, but you have to fork out serious cash to get a good one. In my opinion they aren't worth the outlay for a used pipe. But, as I said, if you got one (or two...), enjoy. My honorable mention could be Ascorti. They are up there with the best both in looks and smokability. Keep puffing!

I have a Peterson system deluxe 20fb in a sandblasted black finish. I think Petersons black finishes are just amazing and the photos you see online do not do them justice. This is not a large pipe but it’s a sitter so it’s very convenient and it just smokes better than anything else that I have. And the sandblast that Peterson does is one of the best in the business. This should be a $500 pipe It’s that good

I have to second that! I have an extensive collection and one of my all time favorites was a BC bent Dublin sitter I’d guess you say. It’s called the carat. I’ve seen some that aren’t flat bottom but mine was. Also agree that Savinelli is and always has been spot on. Never had a bad one.

Thanks for sharing your favorite factory made pipes. I seem to go to my Savinelli Series III shape 622 most often. Unfinished with a few flaws in the briar, but a great experience every time.

I have two estate Savinelli nonpareil pipes that are favourites - hand carved? And more than a few Peterson System standard (estates) that I would not part with easily. Temperature here on the south west coast of British Columbia -20 degrees centigrade and a snow forecast. Stay warm. I’m wearing wool socks for the first time in 20 years.

I would love to hear about how you cleaned that old Dunhill! I inherited an old Medico pipe from a old relative of mine (I think it dates back to the 50’s, but now completely sure). I tried a number of techniques to clean it out, and think I did ok, but yeah it still holds on to some of that old smoke smell/taste :/ Or if you have any recommendations for other videos as well. Thanks!

What a great video, Kevin! The last three days it’s been under 5° here where I live. I’ve also been fighting a horrible, sinus infection and cough, so combined with this cold weather, it hasn’t been fun. Luckily, my house is heated by the floor, so it’s been about 75 to 77° the whole time. I really like that 320 Elganza. I know I’m in the minority, but I’ve never liked the looks of the Savinelli 320. I like the 673 style. The Elganza negates fat stem. I like the shape of the bowl very well so I think that’s the pipe I should try to get next. I am a big fan of the Petersons silver spigot bent apples. My favorite Savinelli so far are the 673 models. I have two of them. I also enjoy the Savinelli 636, which is a little bit beefier than the 626. it does get a bit hot. The 673’s, with their thicker walls, always stays cool. I would love to get a church warden just like that one you have. It looks so nice. Looks like it would be a good smoker as well. God bless you and your family. John.

I've got that honorable mention Savinelli 673 and like you, I find it very enjoyable to smoke. I've got a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Milverton and a Savinelli Hercules xl that I like to smoke especially when I'm driving long distances.

The three Castello pipes I got from my grandfather are like yours, the Sea Rock heavy rusticated. There is also two 1950’s Dunhills that look just like yours. Then there’s two Ludlows and one no name mystery pipe. I’ve yet to clean and smoke the Dunhill, the Ludlow or the mystery pipe. I suspect the mystery pipe was purchased in WWII, my grandfather was infantry with the 6th Infantry that fought in the South Pacific. My bet is he bought the pipe in Hawaii while in route to the Philippines or from a local craftsman on arriving there.

Great pipes, too- the Irish harp and eleganza jump out at me, just on overall style impression, gotta say (not that all aren’t fantastic, or would be appreciated better in hand, and right up close etc!)👌 Not sure I’m exp or settled enough yet to qualify, ha, but can at least share a few pipes I already am going to most, maybe… I also have a Dunhill Redbark- snapped up for very good price, off another presenter in UK’s pipe sale, unsmoked!- I think it’s a 423- not yet au fair w many identification systems, across the board- From 1977, and it’s that classic small pipe, yet w pretty capacious chamber! Not saying worth the full retail prices or not, but does just exude quality when you have one👌 Will just leave at that actually, as already a lengthy comment- all the best for the New Year, mate🖖

Great video! My two most favorites are Savinelli's. Both are 611EX models. One is a Roma smooth, and the other is a Hercules. I love the large chamber on this model, and they both smoke effortlessly. I like OGS, but I have to be in the mood for it. I mostly smoke Watch City Cigar blends.

Very nice! I had my eye on a Hercules for quite some time but never got around to buying it. Savinelli pipes are great! I’ve ordered from Watch City many times
