Something I have been laughing about for years: if you have an Icom 706 Mk.II G, It is impossible to just say you have an Icom 706. You HAVE to say Mk.II G. Even if you are sending CW with a straight key and manually pounding out each letter slowly you absolutely HAVE to say Mk.II G. It's just something I find unusual or weird and everytime I hear it I chuckle. Nothing wrong with it obviously, it is just strange to me. At one time, this was a radio that nearly everybody owned so you would work hundreds of them. It was definitely the most popular radio of it's day. Another good video, keep up the good work.

I can explain that. The 706, the Mk2 and the Mk2g are similar, but not identical. The two first ones had their flaws, mostly in the cooling part.

Loved my MkIIg but I sold it for an IC-7000, still have it, but heat was a constant problem so I did the fan mod, lost 3 DSP boards until I did. Now they are hard to find.

At the time I had a running gag with my ham friends, no matter what we were talking about, I would add, Mk.II G. I drive a Ford F-250 Mk.II G. I have a iPhone 50 Mk.II G......

No one can deny it is an iconic radio.

How do you plug your paddles into your computer for CW with a Flex radio? CW is my favorite mode.

I'm impressed with your choice of the 706. I'm starting to think about a second HF radio and am not sure I want to put $1000 into a "latest and greatest" model.

Not sure I agree with your list, but for your usage it sounds perfect for you. It's nice that you could share your ideas. Thank you

Hi Morten do you have a video on that green pack you’re carrying in your large pack? I’m building my field repair kit and I’m starting with that bag and thought you might have some input.

Great looking shack Morten! Good list- I have an Icom 706MK2G also- great radio for POTA. Thanks for the tip on the DigiRig for it. I'm looking at a Hermes Lite 2 for an SDR Transceiver- a Flex Radio would be nice, but way to expensive for my budget. 73 God Jul og Godt Nytt år!

@@ThinkPadModsandRebuilds-W4VHZ Thanks! I had no ambitions of getting a Flex, but it showed up at the right time at the right price.

Morten, I would love to hear your TOP 5 list for your ancillary gear that lets you get out in the field. Examples might be things like warm clothes, cross-country skis, etc. DE WA1KLI
@LB0FIКүн бұрын
Kjetil LB4FH would probably be the right hamtuber for that. I like to stay in a warm car during winter and activate drive-ins. And the last time I had skis on was in March 1997... Thanks for the input though. And, thinking about it, I might have one of those videos already.

@@LB0FI As long as you remember: Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlig klær! (There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing). My excuse is that I am old (72). The last time I was serious about cross-country skiing was when I was on the team in high school. I also prefer not to freeze. While I greatly respect Jan Baalsrud, I would never want to endure the extreme winter conditions he survived!
