I hope the advise will be of some help to you Andrew, these are a great inline spinner that work really well on the trout. Weather and water conditions have a lot to do when trout fishing rivers/streams and that's where the variety of Mepps spinners come in handy. If one doesn't work then continue to change to a different model, as you know trout can be quite fussy and hard to catch at the best of times. 👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)

Hi Adrian. thanks for the clear walkthrough of the various lures. I am going to fish small creeks in the New England area of nsw in the last week.of may, any advise for that time of year on lure selection or colour? Thanks Mal

Hi Mal, small creeks and streams I use the small #00 Black Fury ( black in clear water/copper/gold blades in tannin waters), Stone Fly/March Brown clear waters, White Miller bug tannin waters, the Aglia models are also great for small streams in the same colours as the black fury as noted.. Use a 6' ultra light trout rod 1-3kg, a small well balanced reel & 4lb clear mono line such as Aussie made Platypus Super 100 lines.. If the water is very cold the trout may not be all that aggressive so the brighter colours (copper/gold) will probably work better on the trout as it will stimulate them into taking the lure. If you find they're just following the spinner keep changing the spinner from one colour to another,, I'm sure there's one they'll finally have a crack at. I've had them take the gold , then suddenly go off it, a change to copper and they'll take that.. it's just a matter of patience and keep on persevering,, If you go to the following site you'll find plenty of info on my trout fishing that hopefully will help you as well.. tackletactics.com.au/Tips-Techniques/Adrian-Webbs-Trout-Tips cheers Adrian (mepptas)

Great video Adrian, some excellent tips! Do you ever fish any of the impoundments and lakes? Using the bigger Mepps? I grew up using Celtas in the streams mostly in the North West. Green and gold was always a winner and the red a gold late in season. The Mepps range looks extensive. You ever fish the Mersey above Rowallen? I used to get some huge fish near end of season here. Lol....now I live in WA and gosh I miss the days fishing in Tassie ☹️

Thanks Geoff, I used to fish Lake Barrington every now and then in Winter when they dumped the Atlantic salmon in during the closed season. other than that I only fish the rivers & streams.. Celta's were very popular too and I know a few fisho's who used them, they were once made in France but are now made in China and I did hear the spinner blade didn't rotate half the time. Mepps have gone a long way with their range of lures from when I first started using them back in 1964 when I only had the silver black fury to fish with. I did head up to have a fish in the Mersey above Rowallan once and when I did finally find the track down to the river it was running too high so never got to fish it. I may still get back up there one day and have a fish in it.. I may check it out again if and when I'm fit enough. WA is a nice place to live, there used to be a few rivers in and around the Pemberton area that had trout in them from what I can recall. the trout fishing may not quite as good as Tassie though :) cheers Adrian

What is best size mepps aglia and mepps ac hybrid for trout river and the best color mepps for cafe water and clean water? Thank you for the answer!

Hi Micheal, here's a bit of info that may help you: What colour to use, that will depend if it's a bright sunny day and clear water, or it may be overcast conditions and clear water too. A spinner with a black blade will work well in these conditions as it won't reflect much light from the blade, but the vibration of the blade will still be picked up by the trout. Trout are very light sensitive and something that is bright and reflecting a lot of light will be rejected on these days. In tannin water I use the gold and copper bladed spinner and these work very well under these conditions, also the White Miller Bug dose a good job in tannin waters too. Early in the season when the rivers are very cold and running cloudy due to run off from winter rain, then I use the fluro (micro-pigment) and even a black blade (in clouded water) spinner. The fluro or silver blades used in very cold water will stimulate the fish into striking the spinner more often than not. The lure size will depend on the waters you are to fish, the deeper the water ( 1.8metres to 3.6 meters ) the heavier the lure, eg: a size 2 or 3 would be fine for a deep river, a shallow river ( 1.0 meters to 1.8 meters )a size #0 or #1 will do just fine and for the small streams ( 0.10cms - 1.2 meters ) the 00 or 0 will do the job quite well. for more info you can also go to the following site where you will find several articles etc that may also be of some help to you. tackletactics.com.au/Tips-Techniques/Adrian-Webbs-Trout-Tips cheers Adrian (meppstas)
