I’m not sure if I’ve ever left a comment on a KZbin video but I felt compelled to tell you that your recs got me out of a GIANT reading slump this year and back into reading fantasy. Since finding your page around August/September I’ve read Will of the Many, Blood Over Bright Haven, Jade City, Jade War, and now I’m getting through Jade Legacy. The momentum from reading these books (which I now cannot shut up about) helped me find books in other genres that I liked and finished too so THANK YOU. you actually hyped me up for sun eater so much😭😭😭 also, can i just say, it's so refreshing to hear that 60 books was your goal for the year (which is similar to mine). i think a lot of booktubers out there are reading soooo much and I feel like I could never read in that volume, it's setting impossible standards for me kinda. and it's great to hear that this is a valid goal, and you don't have to be able to read 100+ books a year to be considered a reader, idk if this makes sense lol

A few other Litrpg/Progression fantasy to check out that are as popular are: Mother of Learning (it's basically groundhogs day meets harry potter in the best way possible), Arcane Ascension (puzzles, academy trope, climbing through tower trope, brando sando level of magic system, found family), Cradle (dbz if it were an epic fantasy). These are some of the "staples" that get recommended a lot in the community, and they are great to read in between the big epic fantasy books. Happy reading!

@@Smitty1423 definitely! 💯 Here’s my review: Brutal, truthful, and raw. Ocean Vuong’s iconic poetic prose was so luscious and vivid that you deeply feel all the pain and beauty in this impactful multi-generational American story. I listened to this on audiobook and found it weirdly entrancing because of the beautiful poetic delivery hard juxtaposed with deeply unsettling emotionally charged vignettes ranging from the Vietnam war, Tiger Woods, Love & Death. I listened to the 6-8 hour audiobook in two sittings, it was so engrossing.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed Dungeon Crawler Carl; the series only gets better as it goes. As far as other LitRPG Goes - you'll have to lower your expectations quite a bit, but there are some solid titles out there. It's pretty broad genre with some that dive deep into skill points, hit points, etc that you have to somewhat keep track of and in some cases I feel like distracts from the story. Also lots and lots of new authors with poor editing/QC that have made me DNF more than a few within a couple of chapters just due to poor writing/grammar. I'd recommend the BuyMort series as litRPG-ish that steers away from stat minutiae. Also notably fun more traditional litRPG, but definitely not for everyone - Everybody Loves Large Chests; the story is fun, the content is -- graphic at times. On my TBR somewhere based on a number of recommendations is He Who Fights With Monsters. DCC is the only thing in the genre that I'd actively advocate for thusfar.

@Smitty1423 Not all of them are sci-fi/fantasy, but they were all amazing. I'd especially encourage you to check out Cahokia Jazz, judging by what you seem to like best in books. Looking forward to when you get to Disquiet Gods btw. I'm still figuring out how I feel about it. Ruocchio did some stuff I was hoping he wouldn't.

Jan - Midnight Library. I read Poppy War this month as well and I agree with you. I think the audiobook does the book a disservice. I actually did not like the entire trilogy and I think that was partially influenced by the way Rin was portrayed by the narrator. If you go back to it, definitely read it. I'd be interested what you think, but the 3rd book is my lowest rated book of all time and I should've just DNF'd it Feb - Read 4 books and none were good enough for this list Mar - Harry Potter - Prisoner of Azkaban. First time reading through HP and loved this one Apr - The Lost Metal. Rhythm of War was a close 2nd May - Shadow of the Gods. Read 7 books this month so a bit tough June - Dungeon Crawler Carl July - The Will of the Many Aug - Tress of the Emerald Sea Sep - The Nightingale Oct - Scythe Nov - Blood Over Bright Haven. This was my highest quality book month so hard choice but it wins.

Jan: a battle between Final Empire and Grace of Kings but I'll go with the latter. Feb: Yumi and the Nightmare Painter Mar: Way of Kings Apr: Veiled Throne May: slump Jun: The Will of the Many Jul: slump Aug: Well of Ascension Sep: Between Sword of Kaigen and Hero of Ages. I agonized over this but I'm choosing Sword of Kaigen. Oct: slump Nov: Oathbringer Dec: Finished Rhythm of War and currently reading Wind and Truth so we shall see!

@@Smitty1423 “Cold Storage” by David Koepp. I got it because my brother and I used to live in an old building named Cold Storage and it was a crazy place. This book was nothing like it but still fun to bond over. It’s a sci-fi/horror about a fungus. I gave it a 4 star and it was a fun quick read.

Do you think any live-action adaptation (which there seem to be more prevalent rumors about every day) of Sanderson's work will ever do it justice? Been burned already with Wheel of Time and Rings of Power and I'm keeping any and all expectations low.

January - Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis. Its his take on pulpy old school sci fi, so so fun and thought provoking. 4.5 stars February - I only reread books this month, so probably Drawing of the Three by Stephen King. 2nd book of the Dark Tower series, where it truly comes to life. 5 stars. March - 11/22/63 by Stephen King. This one was a beautiful slow burn that will make you rethink your preconception of Stephen King. 5 stars April - Duma Key. Ok ok I know this is a lot of Stephen King, but he has some total bangers. This one is best read without knowing much, but there's some hauntingly beautiful magical realism. 4.5 stars at least May - That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis. The conclusion of his Sci Fi trilogy, things get absolutely bonkers. Thought provoking dystopian that explores past WWII anxieties, as well as Merlin and the descent of the gods on earth. 5 stars. June - The Road by Cormac McCarthy - totally haunting depressing, dreary and sad. But so beautiful, and with a little bit of hope. 5 stars July - The Shining by Stephen King - There's not much to say on this one. You know the story. 4 stars August - American Gods by Neil Gaiman - Fascinating exploration on what America puts its faith in, with a unique perspective from an Englishman. I know Gaiman seems like a scumbag right now, but he sure can write. 4 stars September - Golden Son. Freaking awesome. What else can I say. 4.5 stars October - The Green Mile by Stephen King. There's no way you don't this story. Like 11.22.63, it challengers your idea of what Stephen King can be, and will make you sob for days. 4.5 stars. November - Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace - It took me roughly three months to finish this (I finished at least 10 books while reading it) but the last 600 pages or so I read in a week and half. This book is a monster, and has a pretty pretension reputation (which isn't not earned lol) but it seriously has to be one of the best books of the 20th century. Wallace was one of the most talented writers of his generation and in this book he said everything there is to say about everything. Easiest 5 star of the year. December - ??? Let's face it, it'll probably be Wind and Truth. I'm about 700 pages into it and it is excellent so far. Thanks for the vid, happy reading!

Thanks for making this list and yeah Wind and Truth def will be the one in December lol
