Some great ideas here Helen, thanks! I've recently (with permission) acquired a lot of new Welsh slate tile off-cuts that had been dumped in a skip by the roofer, so am now looking forward to using those. Also, as a lampwork glass bead-maker and glass fuser, I have many beads and chunks of glass that didn't quite make the grade for their intended purpose - your video has inspired me to have a look through them. It sometimes pays to be a bit of a hoarder... 😉!

Lucky you - that sounds like a really inspiring stash! It definitely pays to hoard (and check the neighbourhood skips!) 😀

hi helen! good and clear explanations. how to make mosaic from pebbles on faience substate ( soft ceramic, 600 celsius fired) ??? thanks
@HelenMilesMosaics Жыл бұрын
I'm afraid I have no idea Dan! I would say that all surfaces need to be strong and resilient so anything soft should be avoided especially if it is likely to absorb moisture from the tile adhesive or grout.

Great new video Helen, thanks for all the cheap materials top tips, I could do with being tempted to try out new types of tesserea, Mexican smalti doesn't exactly tick the good economic value box!

You've tempted me in the other direction - I am desperate to get my hands on some Mexican smalti now!

Thank you Helen. I sure hope my creative juices return! any tips to get them back??
@HelenMilesMosaics2 жыл бұрын
I wish I did! My one and only little tip is that it's really difficult to feel creative when there is tons of stuff going on in your life. I sort of freeze when my life is over full. For me, creativity needs space!

Where do you get your tiles from? I'm having trouble finding unglazed ceramic tiles in any sort of color other than white.
@HelenMilesMosaics2 жыл бұрын
Where to do you live? The tiles come from France but are readily available from mosaic suppliers in the UK. Apparently they are harder to get hold of in the US but not impossible.
