I'd argue that "The Night Gwen Stacey Died" is probably the milestone that marked the beginning of the Bronze Age. Superhero comics had never gone THERE before.

I think that's a key to what makes the era so different from the Silver Age, but it feels a bit late to me. I honestly feel like the Bronze age started in the very late '60s. But what the hell do I know? 😅

Great books! Jumping the shark comes from Happy Days from an episode where Fonzie jumps his motorcycle over a shark tank and it was kinda remembered as the decline of the show.

A very nice Bronze Age collection. I purchased my first comic (Fantastic Four 149 -- the orange cover caught my eye) at my local 7-11 in the summer of 1974 at the age of 9 and was immediately hooked. I was lucky enough to find a local comic shop not too far from my house a few months later. While hanging out in the shop as my Mom shopped at the local K-mart, the owner of the shop recommended that I pick up a Hulk 181 because of a new character in that book. I was collecting Fantastic Four, Spider-man, and Captain America almost exclusively at that time, and my yard-mowing money only went so far--but I took his advice (even though I didn't really care for Hulk). I had that copy of Hulk 181 graded a year ago, and it came back CGC 8.5 white pages.
@SwarmofComics9 ай бұрын
Holy crap! AN 8.5?!?! That's insane! Congrats on that! Have a video where I got a bunch of books from when I was a teen in the '80s graded, and a ton of them came back 9.8s....but the fact that a Hulk from the '70s came back so high is unbelievable.

I also got into Comics during the bronze age. I like hearing the history of comics. The first comic that I bought new was Conan The Barbarian #125, but the very first comic that I had was an issue of Fantastic 4 (without the cover), which my Dad gave me when I was around 6 or 7 years old. Anyway, I love seeing all those covers. Have a pleasant weekend Randy! ~Eric

A good book to note is Green Lantern/Green Arrow #76 which is considered the book that kicked off the bronze age.
@SwarmofComics9 ай бұрын
I think I mention that story arc in my video, and I could see that being considered as a book that kicked it off, but I'd go with Superman #233 (a book I do want!). I would say that the comics code relaxing for that storyline in GL/GA is more key than the books themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing your collection. Those are some truly seminal issues of the period. As a child of the Bronze Age, those books bring the nostalgia. Some of the books you talk about triggers so many memories. I am the original owner of a few of those books but I sold or donated most of my collection…over ten thousand. Please keep up your videos. They bring me joy like when I was a kid.
@SwarmofComics9 ай бұрын
A HUGE part of doing this channel and my race to collect some of these books is the nostalgia and triggering of memories. That's why I included those ASM 252 and 238. They were so important to me as a kid that every time I see them I'm flooded with memories of going to the comic shop, reading the books over and over, and hunting for books I was missing. I sold about 30k books about 5 years ago, but thankfully kept most of my keys....if only I knew that Ultimate Fallout #4 was going to be worth a mint someday... I'm glad I can bring you some joy, and I'm glad you are a part of the channel now. That's why I do it. And sorry for babbling!

Great collection of comics! Yes you can obtain this iconic books for an affordable price if you don’t mind low grades. That has been Allen, the Comic Geek method and believe me he has many grails!
@SwarmofComics9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I definitely look towards lower grades when looking at grails. it's just not worth the price bump on, say, ASM 129, on a 9.0 when a 7.0 looks fantastic. I'm looking at building up more golden age keys by going for 1.5 or 2.0's.

Some heavy hitters there! So, what signified the end of the Bronze Age? What happened in '85?
@SwarmofComics9 ай бұрын
Crisis on Infinite Earth, Secret Wars (started in '84, but ended in '85), the resurgence of DC after being left in the dust by Marvel, and some others. But I think it was less of an event in '85 and more of the change in comics in '86 with Watchmen and The Dark Knight, if that makes sense.

Nice hearing your thoughts on books shown. The way you talked about amazing 129, you're a punisher fan. Only comic book character who image is more popular/known to normies than character. Also, to me, It's shameful how modern Marvel, especially Jason's arron, did to him in my opinion.
@SwarmofComics9 ай бұрын
My prize books of the '80s were the Punisher limited series. Those Zeck covers and the awesome story made me absolutely love the character even more than when I just read him in Spidey. I have to say that I stopped reading his books regularly after the Dillon/Ennis run, and sporadically picked them up. Probably the last thing I read was the 2014 series. That was different and brutal. I liked that. I never read the series where he was an angel, or a frankenstein monster, or whatever is happening now. Seemed embarrassing.

Have any Fantastic 4 keys stabbed by chance? Also I finally pulled the trigger on Xmen 130, first appearance of Taylor Swift, er, I mean Dazzler. I've always wanted all the xmen 1st appearances and right before this Taylor swift hype happened I was torn between 1st Gambit and 1st Dazzler and I unfortunately went with Gambit. I love the book but the hype on 130 put it out of my meager reach in high grade so I had to settle on a 6.0. But I finally have it no thanks to Miss Swift. I feel like she can afford to toss me a 9.8. Maybe I'll hit her up on Twitter and make a complaint

Dc is the one the kicked off all the mayor comic eras. And bronze age is no different. Many consider green lantern #76 to be the start of the bronze age
@SwarmofComics5 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Even when Marvel was king in the '80s it was still DC that ushered in the modern age (copper?) with the most important books of the decade. I may not be a huge fan, but I certainly appreciate them!
