Well done! Have to say other than price, the OF1400 is by far the best router I’ve used. I do feel silly having spent that amount of $$, but the attachments and dust extraction are worth every penny.

Loved your video man. CN see your thinking faster than the recording! Love it! I also have a small shop. Dust collection is a pain no doubt! Looking at suitable, affordable option….. it has been tough. The oef 1010 reqf has been great. With existing rails for already-owned Festool kit…. I have been happy, recommend checking out the angle accessories. Thanks for the great videos!! Look forward to future videos!!!

The Festool sanders reduced the vibrations so much that my wrists stopped hurting. I put my 5" one on the right angle jig and it stays there (Yes, it is not the same model as the one in your video). The 6" is my go to. I gifted the 5" like yours to my brother when I bought the 6".

I think that 5" that you have with the right angle jig would be awesome! I would like to get it one day. Maybe I should sell my existing 5" and get that...

The OF1400 is a great router if you are already on the Festool platform, the main benefit for me is the speed you can change tooling and copying rings.

Many people view the Festool sander as overpriced; the same is true for Hilti concrete tools. However, the price becomes reasonable when you consider the sanding speed, minimal vibration, and effective dust collection it provides. The 6" model is the way to go. I use mine with a Dust Deputy cyclone and a Rigid shop vac-I’m not quite ready for the Festool vacuum yet as I do consider that way overpriced! The Dust Deputy compensates you each time you empty the drum and do not replace a vacuum bag.

I found a crazy good deal on my Festool vacuum used. Still a lot of money, but it’s the creature comforts. :-)

If you bought the festool dust collector, you would see a huge improvement in your sander. Trust me, I used my rigid vac as well for a while as well and felt the sander wasn't really what all the hype was about. I did some research and asked a few questions. Turns out too much suction prevents the sander from working as it should. The rigid vac was too much suction. When I got festool dust extractor, a huge difference. Now I'm seeing what the hype was all about. Take the leap, you'll be happy you did.

The festool vac is an absolute game changer. If you're running festool tools without a festool dust collector than you don't even know.

Here to echo the same comments. I ran a Ridgid vac with my Festool stuff until I got my CT36. I can't believe the difference.

I dont know if they had them in NA (120v) but try find an old OF2000 E/1, made for festool by mafell. Only slightly less power than an OF2200 & only about 1/4 of the rrp, I have 3 of them, yes 3, and absolutely adore them. The ergonimics are perfect, works on the rail and does everything the new ones can. Love mine.

Nice setup Ryan - thanks for sharing. Those of us with small garage workshops all face the same issues so it's always nice to see solutions that others have come up with. I'm in Canada too so I understand the additional challenges of keeping the shop warm and also keeping humidity under control when it's -20 outside. I park cars in my shop during the winter so humidity becomes a problem due to snow melting off of them . I run a dehumidifier which helps to keep the rust off the tools and cast iron tables. You mentioned plans for a CNC in your future. Do you have one in mind? Will you manage to find the space for a 4x8 or do you plan to get a smaller one?

My wife grudgingly parks outside, so I don’t have to deal with humidity as much anymore. I even change my shoes in the shop so I’m not tracking snow all over the place. I ended up going with the Longmill CNC from Sienci Labs. I love the idea of supporting a Canadian company, and their shipping and overall cost is much more reasonable than Onefinity. I just couldn’t stomach Onefinity charging shipping from Canada to Canada in USD.

I have that sander and something that I didn't account for is the price of 6" sandpaper. Worth it to me, but it should be considered if anyone is on the fence. Secondly, I have a cheap-o drill press and I notice "run out" from either the chuck and/or the table deflecting. Also, I have to manually position belts to change the speed, which means I never change the speed. Hey, wanna trade?

I really struggle to find 6” Cubitron. Especially 80 grit which I use a fair bit of. So you are saying I should keep the drill press… have to find a different spot for the CNC then! I’m actually debating wall mounting it.

I have 2 Ryobi 5" battery powered sanders. No vibration, pigtails, and does a good job for each less than $90 (can't remember actual price). I put a different grit on each sander so I don't have to keep changing paper when I'm batching out multiple projects like cutting boards. Is it as good as a Festool? I'll never know because of the price and I am using my money for other things.

I totally get it! I started with a Milwaukee 5" cordless (I suspect very similar to yours) and it worked great for me. Up until I started doing bigger projects on a deadline. I just found when sanding for hours on end having a cord was helpful and the bigger footprint with faster cutting (and less vibration) made a huge difference. I still use my cordless and wouldn't get rid of it!

Festool sell the best finish sander on the market for a measley 249.99. Running that sander with dust collection, especially festool dust collection is a whole different world. Sorry bout it.

I’m considering a 3D printer as well, but what turns me off is the length of time it takes to print anything. Do you find the printing time a disadvantage? Or is the outcome worth it?

At this point it’s totally worth it. I can print bins for storage pretty quick. Like under an hour. Bigger jobs I do at night or while I’m working.

I think we're over the festool shame comments now. buying the rail to go with the router is not the best first choice if you happen to have their tracks saw then the rail is a bonus when you buy the router. there's always a downside to trying to mix too many brands.

The WEN is not worth the price. Id keep the rikon which will last longer than the WEN
