I would not let them near or call after tossing me out like garbage. They are not worried nor regretful and concerned about him. As far as parenting classes go, it's too little too late. I will not allow them to know my son/daughter. He/she doesn't need that cold toxic calloused in their lives. Once they threw me out, they forfeited anything they thought they had with me. The only thing they have left is "What was, what could have been, but is not"

Family is something that has to go both ways. OP's "parents" aren't parents.

In another story, foster dad throws OP out with some money ($ 100 ?) and a suitcase full of his stuff at the stroke of midnight. Then after many years FD comes begging for a place to stay for a while. OP hands him the same suitcase and a $ 100 bill and says "ADIOS" before slamming the door shut

Jake’s so-called parents are total scumbags. They never loved him and only showed up when they needed something. Of they weren’t in financial distress, they’d never visit him or even talk to him.

To have a healthy relationship you need boundaries. So yes, I agree with his decision to have them.

The OP did a good job. His parents threw them out at 18 and never cared about him for the next 10 years and now because they need money. They came looking him up insane. What I would like to know is why 10 years later they could still reach him by phone. As soon as that happened and there was no contact from them in about a year I would change my phone number. They shouldn’t be able to reach you after 10 years. I wondered about this another story some of them it’s been 15 years and they could still be reached by the phone that’s crazy, especially if it’s somebody never wanted to talk to you again.

My experience has been that parents of adult children need boundaries whether the parents pulled some stunt or not.

They don't need to go to parenting classes for a full ass grown independant working man father and husband ! They need to go to classes to teach them about how to learn to manage their own financial crisis & not leech or free load off their own son ! What they did him on his 18th b day by kicking their son out was out of order & un called for ! The odasity of them both !if anything they should feel remosalful & take responsibility for their shitty actions towards their son & own up to their poor sitting behaviours if anything !

Wow such great parents. They are taking parenting classes when their kid already has his own kid. So when will all that knowledge from parenting classes be put to use and for whom ?

I knew the parents wanted money. They dumped OP, until they wanted something from him.

Story 1: Seems to be something OP should have discussed with his wife BEFORE deciding to resume contact. Also, why not have an interview with them before introducing the parents to the wife, and then the child? Why have the meeting during a birthday party?
