Jen: You would probably not be expecting words of encouragement from a grizzled disabled Vietnam Vet (Marine Corps, no less), but I applaud your decision to be true to yourself and wish you the best of luck on your journey. Your videos have meant a LOT to me and YOU have made a difference in my life. Years ago, three psychiatrists from the Veterans Administration decided I had PTSD (I still don't agree with them) and put me on drugs. I got myself off the drugs and decided that playing guitar would be my new therapy. So, directly or indirectly, you and your videos have helped me with my therapy and I will be forever grateful to you. Best of luck to you, a beautiful soul, who has made a significant difference in not only my life, but many others whom you will probably never hear from. Cheers!

Guitar is my theropy too! I have a few "pain" issues that I am ALWAYS in pain and playing takes my mind off..I am self thought through KZbin..Jen, Marty and Justin are my favorite teachers. Thanks...Jen also made me laugh a lot. Thanks again Jen!

Well Jen I'm going to be the weird one here in the comment section. Six years ago I hooked an old box t.v. and 'Wii' gaming system up in my sun room so I could get KZbin on a bigger screen. I had just got done crying because my dad was trying to teach me how to play a G chord and I was so frustrated. (So was he). And that's when I found you, and I instantly felt better. I am eighteen now, have played guitar for six years (special thanks to you) and I'm going off to college and allowing myself to pursue music. I say all this not to confess my childhood crush on you, but to reassure you that you have support in getting to wherever you feel lead, because the one thing that will never change is your smile and the way it affects us Jen. I hope this journey ends in your smile becoming even brighter.

Jen.....I'm a retired endocrinologist who trained in the eighties and am ashamed to admit that it was not the science that got in the way of advanced therapy , in those days, but you already know that :-) . I am so very happy for you that long overdo enlightenment has led to you having access to a quality health care team . I gave up guitar during my career as that profession was all -encompassing and am so happy to be back playing and your youtube series has been invaluable in getting my fingers back into shape. I wish you all the best and many thanks for taking the time to share your love of music with all of us

I don't know why that I feel so strongly that I've been waiting for so long to see this video that you've made, for yourself, and for all of us. I don't know why I also feel so strongly, but as I watch the end of the video and see you walking hand-in-hand, I know you're going to be just fine. The person you're walking hand-in-hand with, like you, is extraordinary. I can't tell you how glad I am that you're on the path that you're on with the people that you're on the path with. Wishing you a wonderful healing process in every way. Peace. And thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hi Jen. I don't know how it feels to be in the wrong body, but I'm suffering from depression, so at least I know how it feels to be different and alone. I hope you'll reach the identity you've been looking for and that it makes you happy. Because that's all that matters, that you are happy with who you are and don't care about what anyone else says. your lessons of "outside" by staind and "zombie" by the cranberries inspired me to start playing/learning guitar. I'm so grateful for you teaching me those songs, I love and play them to this day and will keep doing that until I die. So thank you very much for giving me some light even in my darkest days. I wish you all the best. Cheers! Frank from Frankfurt/Germany.

I just asked about why I hadn't seen you in so long in the live lessons, and was expecting to hear you were touring. Just want you to know I think you're one of the bravest souls I know for being so open and honest, and I support you for who you are now and who you are becoming. I understand in a different way what it is to let people know who you really are,as I'm a mystic and that doesn't sit well with a lot of people when I'm open about that. Rest, heal, and will be glad to see you in the group again. If you need an additional person to talk with,I'm in your corner-don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you for being you,and for all you do for others.

Hi Jen, I'm Chris. I have been following you on KZbin for a few years. You are a very brave and awesome person. I had a stroke 5 years ago and I picked up guitar for my son to learn and was playing around on it before I wrapped it for Christmas for him. I got hooked on guitar and it has been so very key in my recovery. You have helped me learn guitar and music theory! This video just popped up in my feed and I had to comment. Thank you for being so open and giving! I applaud you for being true to yourself and opening up to others that might need encouragement!

Jen, My comment starts with "Oh Jen...I've been watching you since the mahalo years." also. My biggest criticism right now is you've forced me actually login to youtube for the first time in 5 years or so to post this comment, but now that that is over... I fell in love with the person that you are inside years and years ago. Your mind has this personality that I consider outshines anything your outer shell might ever look like. These videos of your transition are wonderful, thank you for posting them. You've always had a way of explaining things in a way that I felt was easier for me to understand. Please, please Jen do whatever you have to do to make yourself happy and safe in this life. You're a beautiful person no matter what your reflection looks like. -Leo

I just wanted to echo all of the sentiments in the coments section. I also use to watch you MANY years ago during the Mahalo days. You taught me how to play many songs. It was with you that I first learned how to play chords correctly and play along a whole song. You really have an excellent teaching style and a beautiful approachable personility. Today, I was casually checking out the Fender courses, clicked on "Bare Necessities" and I was thrilled to see your familiar smile. That really took me way back! I have been also going through a similar journey (though the other way around 😅) and want to send you all of the love and support! I hope you have been well lately!

I really really want to say thank you for being awesome! I was born in '71 so can empathise totally about growing up without role models and a narrative that feels like it fits your life. My partner was the person who enabled me to see a life of happiness and realness, unfortunately she became very sick shortly after I started medical transition, and after she passed I lost all of the people around our family as support. That's when I found music again and especially guitar, thank you for being there, and reinforcing the metronome, no really thank you! (sarc). I actually turn 5 next month, and my life has changed infinitely in ways I could never imagine, the power to be yourself and not back down is amazing. Here's to a life of not crying every day. Thank you dude, you so totally rock!

Thanks for sharing. You have been one of my 'go to' KZbinrs in my quest to learn guitar as a silver haired learner, such an inspiration in how you share your love of guitar and your sense of humour certainly helps. I don't understand your pain but I have suffered chronic neuropathic pain for 15 years, have begun to understand grief for the life I once had, the mask I still portray to hide my pain but, I've recently found a way to try and understand. By the study and practice of Mindfulness which I would recommend to you. All the very best and I'm sure all your followers would join me to say we'd love to see you back on KZbin either chatting or teaching as soon as you feel up to it. Apologies for the rambling message!

Yesterday I've been watching your instagram live on fender chanel. And well I'm not the most enthusiastic guitar player (however after yesterday I think a could become) but the live took all of me for whatever long it was because you were awesome. Absolutely amazing, living, natural and easy, and all I was thinking of was 'oh, what a positive and energetic guy, what an easy going person, what a miracle of a person who found his way in life'. And If smb asked me, I could never event think about how long way you had come. So I just want to say that you're fantastic and I deeply admire the strength and determination and courage it took you to become the person I saw yesterday and I am so happy that you managed to do whatever it takes to become yourself.

Hi Jen, I’ve followed your online guitar lessons for quite some time. At one point I was even one of your sponsors via Patreon (quit Patreon sponsorship because it didn’t work very well on an iPhone, couldn’t get access to any videos, no biggie though, was glad to be able to call myself one of your sponsors for that brief period.) I’m very glad you seem to have found your path. Don’t quite understand it all, I’m a regular, down to earth guy who’s typically fairy conservative and who is probably somewhat ignorant of the issues you and other trans people face on a daily basis. I don’t really care what gender you want to be as long as you’re happy. I think your daily struggles is what helped you become such a great guitar player and musician in general. I think music was your escape from the daily reality. I sincerely want you (and all people) to be happy. Now that you’re transitioning I think you’ll stay beautiful inside because your personality exudes of kindness and understanding. ...and physically everyone can/could see you’re a very beautiful woman. ..now you’ll become a very handsome man. My understanding is that beauty in the eyes of most men and women is closely related to our perception of symmetry. People with symmetrical faces are viewed as beautiful more often than those who do not have symmetrical faces. Based on that, you’ll become a very handsome man as your face is vey symmetrical. My only, very selfish, worry is that your voice will change too much. I hope it won’t change too much but again, I’m being very selfish here. A few years back I struggled with some personal issues and guitar lessons sort of kept me going (I still suck at guitar). One song in particular, your rendition of ‘Silent Night’ truly kept me ..breathing. Can’t explain it as, even though baptized, I’m not a particularly religious person. I googled “Silent Night on guitar” and was taken to dozens, maybe even hundreds of renditions of that particular song. Yours was so simple and so enjoyable (haha, won’t deny you being easy-on-the-eyes was the initial reason for me clicking on play) but it was your soft, joyful voice and quirky sense of humor that really drew me to it and later to many other guitar lessons of yours. ..must have listened to it hundreds of times, NOT exaggerating. In fact, I still have it on my iPhone as I shamelessly managed to copy it somehow off of KZbin. Although this was a guitar lesson, it was you slowly humming and singing it to the chords you’re playing which put a smile on my face. Sorry about the long story Jen but I just wanted to explain that I wish you the very best and all the happiness. I’m glad you’ve found your way and that you’re slowly moving to where you want to be in life. Congrats to you!!! I hope that one day you’ll be inclined to record the very same guitar lesson while humming and singing ‘Silent Night’ as the new Jen, this time as one of us, regular dudes. Sincerely, Niclas

Jen. I'm crying like a baby because my heart aches for what you had to go thru. I am 62 and not "in tune" to the transgendered lifestyle. Your truthfulness concerning your deepest inner feelings have opened my eyes to how closed minded I have been. I apologize to anyone I have ever "second guessed" or thrown my feelings their direction. I know those are just words but where would I start. I was raised by my Parents a "certain" way and I totally love them both for doing such a great job. They are both gone now so maybe its my time to shine as well. Sorry. I love you more than you will ever know for being so beautiful inside and out. Men can be beautiful as well I think. :-) If there was ever ANYTHING I could do for you or your "people", I'm here. Thank you from my soul for being you and sharing everything that you have. Rock on rocker.

Jen, I can't tell you how much your story resonates with me. I was born in 1980. I was never "ok" as a girl. And still to this day hate it. I still scare people walking into bathrooms. Your courage and story, although hard, is going to help a lot of people. You are incredibly Brave for Finding your route to Peace with yourself! Sounds, like you have a lot of support, but I understand the conflict within. I didn't come out as Gay until I was 33. I am now 38. It was a hard process, but like you said, never felt quite right. For me though, I think this is what I will have to be "ok" with. I'm an identical twin, and a big part of "me", my identity is wrapped up in that. It would not be accepted in my family; just as me being "gay" will never be 100% ok. It's a struggle. I've been in some really Dark places, and was inches of pulling the trigger a couple years ago. 2 years ago I had a hysterectomy, that was medically needed. I can honestly say I wish I could have done that YEARS ago. It's made a huge difference in me being able to be more myself; and pull out of some of the darkness. I still hate looking in mirrors. But I am so grateful to be able to encourage you from afar on your journey. You are known for your amazing guitar abilities; but I think we all know how amazing of a person you are!! I know it is what I was drawn too. You made people feel "included", no matter what the level of guitar, or if they thought they were good. I feel like this is now your time to feel Included....just as you are. Wishing you all the best from MT. ~ Jessie

After reading a few comments and watching the intro and a few other sections of the video I think I've got a feel for your ideas, and feelings. Leaving this, maybe for a snapshot in time of one person's, mine, image/conception of your unmistakable beauty, face that would launch a thousand ships, and truly I could go on and on, but, one final impression (regardless of hair style, as I viewed the guitar lesson videos of short "boy style hair" your words, before seeing the earlier ones and figured you cut it to keep from making all women less envious of you while catching every mans eye) your were so personable, feminine. confident, and gorgeous that my face hurt while at the same time I caught myself holding my breath. Love you and pray you will find peace and know love! - Rob

Holly Molly, I just saw you in one of your videos for the first time today. It was a lesson on a Cranberries song, and I realized it was quite an old one. I felt you were one of the funniest teachers I had seen in youtube . I also thought you were pretty.... very pleasant to see and to listen too. So i decided to look for more videos from you and found out another few lessons where you were..."different", still funny, still nice, still a fantastic teacher, but you looked different....and then I found this! In less than 45 minutes i took the whole trip!!! Truth is that I couldn't care less about your sexuality, good for you whichever route you go. i will still be looking at your videos and having fun and learning guitar with them. Best of luck and keep on rocking!

Sometimes my stupidity amazes me. I have been doing Fender Play for 2 months now and I love it. Especially your videos. I could just sense that you were a kind and caring person. Not to mention a fantastic teacher. Which made it really confusing to me when Fender never had “Office Hours With Jen.” I knew some of the videos were older so I just assumed you no longer worked there. It gets worse. I was going through my FB groups today and came across Jensen’s picture and thought, “Wow, he sure looks a lot like Jen, is that her brother? Weird that they have almost the same name. And he’s so cool too!” This has been my very long winded way of saying that not only am I as dumb as a stump but also that it doesn’t matter to me if you’re Jen or Jensen, you’re still a beautiful rock star. I wish you nothing but a joyous and long life.

hi jen, i just found your warm up guitar video, and my first reaction was oh, a girl video! phew! which (despite my mistake) i think you’d understand that for women guitarists there’s almost nothing out there to watch by other female guitarists. watching that first video, you communicate so well, you’re demonstrating things in a way i am comfortable with. ... then i came to your channel and realised i assumed your gender incorrectly. so i apologise. but i also want to thank you for explaining your journey because a lot of my friends have gone through something similar to you, but i’m not in a position to ask them these deeply personal questions about why and how they went through this very difficult journey. i’m still really glad to have found your videos which feel like a safe place to learn more about guitar on youtube which is a rare thing for femme identifying guitarists. so thank you for the content and thank you for being you. you have a very likeable persona despite, or maybe because of what you’ve been through as a kid. ❤️

You are such an amazing person with a beautiful soul. I can relate to you so much on what it takes to discover yourself after being suppressed for so many years. It really is a painful process but the rainbow that you see after the storm is like none other. I feel you. I hear you. I can sense the peace you have on your Fender live videos. Keep being your amazing self.

So i just started using the fender play app to learn guitar and you made me feel the most comfortable, so well spoken and quickly became my favorite teacher. I couldnt put my finger on it (no guitar pun 😂), but i think youre the coolest. I was born in 75 and had a daughter when i was 16. Six years ago my 25 year old daughter, who was so beautiful as woman could have been a model, told me he was a he. We did all the research, a lot of time, surgery, testosterone and all the support in the world from my wife and I. Now i have the most handsome son and the happiest hes ever been in his life and we worship the ground he walks on. To this day 6 years later only myself or his wife can give him his T shots. Youre pretty amazing Jensen and an awesome teacher. I knew i bonded with you over that stupid app for a reason 😂. You kick ass ☮️❤️

I just learned to play Basket Case by Green Day on Fender Play by seeing your lesson. I have been trying hard to learn the guitar properly after stagnating on it for years. Thanks for helping me on the journey. I respect you the way that you want to be and very proud to learning from you. Hope to do a private lesson too someday!
