Optifine actually slows down chunk loading with default settings to help against the huge lag spike that can come from loading chunks when crossing a chunk boundary on high render distance. So yea on java you can either have lag spikes or slower chunk loading. I don't know if the newer performance mods do that too, but that's what I remember from when I was using optifine.

i remember doing this, too. i much prefer the java edition now. i started on my ipad, got a pc, and installed the bedrock version. later found out how to install exe files. so i installed pirated java. i could not connect to multiplayer. i eventually bought the game and loved it! i really wanted java because these youtubers always used java. i thought java has so many features! but sadly i found out they were just mods. still never found what mods they are to this day.

Part of the reason why Java runs worse than Bedrock is due to the fact that it's single threaded so it really only uses 1 core and 1 thread on your CPU. This means that high performance GPUs are actually very limited in performance thanks to this. It's also why render distance takes off so much performance
