End of canoe season? no way homie, I literally just finished putting the last layer of fiberglass on the bottom of my homemade wooden canoe. literally like 20 minutes ago. Ba bam, son! canoe season is just starting for this guy!! i don't even know anything about woodworking or canoes, I learned it all from the internet, and from watching you. you hear me? I learned it from watching you, okay dad?! so forget about your crazy adderall boat, it's all about DIY. actually mostly about being broke so unable to afford one but regardless, your boat is great. I just like mine better cause of the whole sentimental thing.

Have seen several of your videos, Joe but just got around to this one. Have to admit that everytime I see you in your Swift Packboat, I drool with envy. Hard to believe they can make any kind of watercraft that only weighs 26 lbs that will not fall apart when used. What would we do without modern technology? Never a better time to be a consumer. Great video.

Nice to see you finally talk about your canoe Joe! I am a sea-kayaker and need a diffrent kind of vessel because of the nordic weather and waves at sea, but your canoe looks like the right vessel for your purposes (calm lakes, fishing and stuff). Totally dig that! Really enjoyed watching your video! (thumbs up)

fantastic boat Joe...I rented one for my September Temagami trip and can't stop thinking about buying one. believe it or not, the only time I had any difficulty was in a strong tail wind...because it was so light,it wanted to turn on me....but it was so easy to correct that I didn't even complain....much lol

Great boat Joe ! I've been real happy this year I picked up a Placid boat works Rapidfire, it's Kevlar,carbon fiber 15 ' and the weight is 22 lbs ! Could not be happier man. I am really enjoying the canoe camping thing. Same thing it's essential a kayak hull with an open top,very fast and can carry a ton of gear. Keep up the great work ! Peace

I've been sold on that boat since I first saw it on your channel. However I ended up with an Ally canoe instead which I am very pleased with and I actually think suits me better because I feel as if it's tougher in a way. Of course I have not seen that one in person but I feel as if it could do some real damage when colliding with rocks in rapids? But I'm as far from an expert as one can be so I don't know. love the videos, your a huge inspiration.

This is VERY helpful..but - How is this in wind? Waves? You mentioned handling side waves well once. I wish someone would do a video of moderate wind/waves. I had an Adirondack 12 stolen before I got used to it - but I felt out of control & worried on a day outing, a small shallow lake where waves kicked up...any comments? Thanks.

Hey Joe, thanks for this video. My wife and I were out yesterday in our Keewaydin 16'. A stiff breeze off of our side pretty much the whole 3-hour paddle. No problem for the two of us but I was thinking that our canoe wouldn't be ideal for soloing (back country trips or just beating about small rivers shooting photos). I was thinking about get a small prospector style canoe until I just starting reading about pack boats. Do you have a preference?

Already past freeze-up here in NWT. My old Grumman SK 17 is getting lonely. At 86 lbs, it makes your boat look even lighter. The idea of a pack boat is appealing, but the one time I tried a kayak, I DID NOT like it, at all. Might have just been that particular boat, though. Ah weel. Hope it serves you well for many years!

Thanks Joe, appreciate the video. I checked their site and it looks like the 12' is standard, and 13.6 is "for bigger paddlers and those who simply enjoy more space." Any particular reason you went with the bigger version?
@cmac2191
@cmac2191 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe! Curious about your experience w the 13.6. You mention that it tends to be a wet ride. Is this strictly because of the double-paddle or are there other specs contributing to the 13.6 being a wet canoe? How quickly does water tend to accumulate? I'm looking to purchase my first solo canoe. I'm going to try to test out some Swifts near Algonquin, but I'm also looking for some input from others who may have some extended experience using these solo paddlers. Thanks for your time! All the best!

Price was not mentioned; they are over $3000 I think, which is definitely not for a beginner. However, I am a beginner, and I will take delivery ($400.00 extra from NY to Las Vegas) of a Hornbeck Boat Classic, 12, also kevlar fusion by mid next week. mine weights around 18 pounds and i am still wondering how comfortable would I be carrying it with a 30-40 pound backpack with a yoke which I did not ordered but due to a confusion they included it in. The price for my boat without delivery was $1795.00 and depending what material or color (only 3 colors) it would go all the way to $2300, now add paddles and stuff here and there and you would be easily passing the $3000 mark but everyone says it is worth it so I am a week away to find out if it is true. for a long time I looked out for this on garage sales but could never find one; i am sure mine would be sold at a garage sale once i am gone as my daughters are not interested even a little bit in canoeing!

How would you rate stability? I've got a sit-on-top kayak and while stability is amazing, it's heavy as shit. I'm now looking into one of these boats but I'm curious how the stability would be in slight chop on lakes/bays. Also, does it track more like a kayak or more like a canoe?

@zootycoon246

I’ve had this boat now for 2 summers and love fishing with it using a paddle. I think the boat is only 11 inches high, so I made my own Carbon fiber paddle. It’s only like 3.5 feet long and I use it The Whole time I’m fishing. I use my double paddle when I head back to my car cuz It’s usually getting dark and I need to pick up speed. Hope that helps. I also tried the 12 ft pack and it was way too small

@@zootycoon246 Thanks so much for the reply! This is very helpful. I really prefer a traditional paddle, especially while fishing, since it's so much smaller and easier to handle. Makes sense to bring a kayak paddle when you need to be quick. Thanks again!

i respect and kinda of jealous you get out as much as you can and do. your very lucky in that respect. i've been following you for a long time so last i knew you were working and your wife was and it seems like almost every (i know not every) adventure or video you have something new. i clearly have no idea what your family's income status is but just saying with limited income of only 1 working parent, paying for food, gas ect. to do adventures and pay for everything else isn't easy. just saying $3K is quite a bit money in book and to stay out of debt or be debt free makes things even harder.....
