as a young man who comes from a family who didn't do outdoors, I yearn for the proverbial "old man wisdom" that I find in every one of your videos! the community is luck to have a man like you and as I said being a person that had none to teach me or take me in the woods I thank you for these videos! straight forward, no fluff, no brand Di*k sucking, just easy and honest tips, tricks, and advice! thank you

Thanks. Actually I dont take them down quietly! I go in very quiet and set up quiet. But some I dont hunt the same spot more than 1 or 2 times a year I dont care how loud I am coming down or leaving. I have a couple videos that show me setting up and coming back down. Called super fast way to hang a tree stand.

We're very similar in our personalities, mindset, approach, and technique in regards to modifying (or "customizing", more appropriately) our gear! 😎👍 Not a lot of in-depth coverage of stuff like this online (which tend to feature only "bare-bones", basic information), and it's refreshing to find one! I know that equipment manufacturers sure appreciate feedback like this, too! (You could probably get free gear from manufacturers occasionally, as a beta-tester, if you reached out to manufacturers; I have) ! 🤘

@@SamkoTradBow I've only seen a few videos of yours (mostly just due to me being short on spare time), but they've been fantastic! (I haven't hunted in a good while, but as a herpetologist and field biologist, I spend a lot of time in the field and have recently been tempted to get some new gear and start hunting again). By trade, I have experience in planning expeditions but have always been a rather casual hunter.. I'll probably end up picking up a cheap recurve or longbow soon. (I have an old Samick sage (that was just purchased for playing around with, but no longer have a good primary hunting bow) but really need to get some new gear. I especially liked you bow reviews/customization)! The hunting community and subscriber base on KZbin might not be as large as it is for other-themed channels (and perhaps even within the outdoors community since everybody seems to be obsessed with compound bows and few have ever actually experience using a *real* bow 😑😄), but most channels just feature old, recycled, basic information and I can definitely see this channel generating a lot of interest (it sure caught my eye)! I am happy to see this channel's relative success thus far, and I can only see it growing from here! All-around great content and execution! 👍

Hey Jason I made an Aider with the pexpipe inside the tubular strap but then slid some rubber electrical conduit over the strap and pexpipe and it made more rigid and easier to spring up onto stick, just some you might try, also coming down the strap seem to stick to my boot sole anc with the rubber tubing my boot didn’t hang on the strap Thanks for all you do on YT

Jason, thanks for all the videos. When setting up the shoulder straps on a stand, does it matter if the seat is up by my shoulders or down by my tailbone?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 3 жыл бұрын
Personal preference. I like the seat down so that nothing sticks up above my shoulders for snagging on branches etc. But it's just Personal preference. Also the way I carry my sticks on the stand its best if I run it seat down.

Great video !! When going through thick brush , how do you keep the tree stand from not getting snagged on brush and limbs ?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 3 жыл бұрын
Because its set up with the sticks mounted on it like I do and the stand sits low on my back. Its narrow enough that if my shoulders fit the stand does and there is nothing to hang up. Even wne sticks do get wedged in the pop right out as I dont jave double rung steps and my v brackets are not exposed to snag. Its a pretty streamline set up as far as stands go.

Have you ever tried gun hunting from a hang on tree stand? I just got a stand and I have an archery hunt and a gun one this season. Archery hunting from the stand seems to be a walk in the park but Im having trouble processing how I would hunt with a gun out of the stand and still be accurate. Is my only option shooting freehanded? I say that because it seems impossible to have shooting sticks up there and having them stable and not go through the holes of the stand. I plan on shooting 100-200 yards out and I do not want to take a shot that isn't stable and possibly wounding the animal. If you have any tips or advice I would greatly appreciate it!!
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 3 жыл бұрын
Most gun hunters use stands with a shooting rail or buy a shooting rail that attaches to the stand ot tree. This will help stabilize you. You can also close off one of the holes in the tree stand platform to put a mono pod on. There are probably other ideas out there but I have never hunted deer or any big game with a gun yet. So I'm just expressing what I see alot of others do.

Instead of using the pool noodles, have you ever tried the stick quiver that lone wolf makes for these stands? I don’t see many people using them and I’m just curious as to why. It’s two simple brackets and hold the sticks closer to the stand than anything else while still remaining quiet.

great question. I never used the lw stick quiver but did see it in person at a local store. to me did not look like it would be as stable or as quiet or as durable as my noodles. So I never bothered with it. It might be great. I just was never interested as my noodles work so good.

Great video ,I’ve used some of your tips on customizing my LW stands and sticks . Just curious as to what you think of the step on the stick being so small . They are kind of hard to see in the dark too . I do use a head lamp when climbing but those steps are small !
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 5 жыл бұрын
And they are thin and black making them very hard to see in the dark. A good trick is to put reflective fishing lure tape around the ends of the steps so your head lamp will light them up. You can also paint glow in the dark or white paint on the step. It will wear off the edge but be left in between the treads and light up well.

I see a lot of people using ropes instead of the buckle straps. What are your thoughts in that?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 4 жыл бұрын
The ropes are lighter in weight and you can make them longer to fit around bigger trees with out having to add extensions. I personally have never done a rope mod and I still use the buckle straps. For me the speed is everything and the ropes take longer to use. But I know a few people that love using the ropes instead. Its worth testing and seeing what you like best.

Yes I use 2 packs. In michigan where I'm not packing out deer on my back I use a kuiu venture 2300. And out of state hunts where I'm packing boned out deer and my stand and sticks all in one trip I use a exo mtn k2000. On both packs I put the stand sticks on the packs compression straps. I have 3 or 4 videos that show this set up in full detail if you want to learn more about it. Those vids show both the exo and kuiu rigs with stand and sticks on them.

I have dual steps sticks. They are nice. But the light weight simple folding design on the lone wolf sticks like they are make them my personal favorite.
