I visited Boone in February. Loved it. And not only is the downtown walkable, but the local public transit system, the Appalcart bus, is fare free!

I live up in Massachusetts and I can't take the high cost of living here. A friend of mine suggested moving to Boone and said it has a New England charm about it. I don't drive and take public transportation everywhere here in the Boston area and I was concerned that Boone didn't offer public transportation. So happy to see your comment!! Is the system good there?
@TWCAlex8024 жыл бұрын
@@jbro8934 It's alright, what little of it I rode. If I remember right it ran pretty late in the evening too. It's a popular system w/the college crowd there & sometimes the buses were crowded. Btw I live not far from you in southern Vermont (Brattleboro)

Yes apple cart bus is great

@@jbro8934 The cost of living and the continuing increase in property costs are just as high in Boone and the surrounding area; plus taxes have been rising out of sight also.

I was born in Boone, and reside nearby even now. It's super sad, to see how the area has changed. The traffic is horriable! It was said that, upon a neighbor moving within 12 miles of Daniel Boone, he (Boone) then moved, due to needing more "elbow room". Most locals, would rather people stay away.
@camdencurrent91054 жыл бұрын
Yeah I really wish these tourists would buzz off. It’s weird going places like the trash dump and not seeing anyone you know there. Appalachia is dying!!

I respectfully disagree. I've lived in Boone all my life. I've worked at a resort, I've done construction, worked as a maintenance man for apartment buildings, and currently work in the food service industry. None of these jobs, my whole career, would not have been possible without tourists and the University. If all of those people stayed away, the local economy would collapse, very few people would have jobs, the crime rate would skyrocket, and it would be a miserable place to live. Yeah, traffic sucks sometimes, and there are days when I'm sick of people too, but it's better than the alternative.

Why is that?

@MignognaxX i drove up there today to check things out. VERY small place. The university is massive in comparison to the town, so i can understand that. All the students around too, do locals mind them or not?

It has it's downside but also brings a lot with it depends
@kathleenmansure74164 жыл бұрын
I disagree! I wouldn't be a local if it weren't for my parents coming to work for App State 30 years ago. Besides, while we are still pretty lacking in diversity, the university makes the place more diverse than it would be. I respect your opinion though, and clearly your an older local that remembers things differently than I do :) Although it has changed a lot in my lifetime and I would like the university to become more prestigious, rather than accepting a greater number of students.
