Miramar is a super underrated lake for trout, I remember they stock tail walkers. There might be some holdovers left with no more pressure on the trout like it used to. Nowadays Miramar is a jogging lake or where you can feed some Chinese swan geese at.

If a person needs a usable rod for BFS for really cheap, here in the US, just look at UL,L,ML rated spincast rods, for those spincast push button reels. I have shakespeare micro graphite series rods in 1 piece 4'6" UL, and 2 piece 5'6" L. The 5'6" one is around 20$ on amazon, and the 4'6" is part of a combo at walmart for around 18$. For a cheap but decent BFS reel, there's the Tsurinoya xf50 on amazon for around 66$, and on ebay for around $45+ . I have 2 xf50 reels, one is on the micro series 4'6" rod, and the other is on the 5'6" rod. I did put hybrid ceramic bearings in both reels as well.

Have you felt better sensitivity of a one piece versus a two piece rod from your fishing experience with the variety of fishing rods you own as you have one and two-piece fishing rods?
@SimplyDopeK203 жыл бұрын
For me, most of my 2 piece rods are from Japan and the feel just like a 1-piece rod. For sensitivity, I did noticed it when I built my 1-piece Phenix rod which definitely was more sensitive. But it can be because I added more guides than factory rods. For factory rods from Japan, they feel solid because of how the 2 section are attached. For US models I would just use 1-piece vs 2-piece unless you want it for travel. Good Luck!

What is a good action, power, and length for casting lighter spoons and spinners?
@SimplyDopeK203 жыл бұрын
I really like a 7' - 7'6" UL - L. It really depends on personal preference when it comes down to spooning. I like my BFS setup which is 6'3 UL. But for spinning rods I like my Okuma SST 7' UL. I stick with UL because the rod can fling out a 1/4 spoon pretty far and helps with light spoons too.

Thanks. May I ask why dropshot trout rod is substantially higher in power (stiffer) than the others? Why not a UL rod for trout dropshot? Thanks.
@SimplyDopeK204 жыл бұрын
Most UL are parabolic and when fishing deep you lose sensitivity. I prefer a L to ML for dropshot. I also usually only fish dropshot in deep water which is why I want a little stiffer for sensitivity and feel.

Hi simply dope. I just got my first bfs combo and I'm a little unsure what to set the brakes at. Is it ok to set them like you would a bass rod? Cool video.
@SimplyDopeK205 жыл бұрын
I would have the spool slightly loose (a little play) than put the brakes at half. My Daiwa is currently set on 3. I can cast a 1/32oz mini jig pretty well with it. Usually when you use something heavier, put more brakes on because the spool will over spin causing a bird nest.

It depends on what you want to use. I would stick with a 6'6 rod or smaller. I would recommend a 500 size reel which is all you would need in a small creek. Okuma makes some good and cheaper rods for trout and shimano makes some nice 500 size reel.

Yes. I have the UL-T which means it has a tubular tip(hollow) and is considered a fast tip while the UL-S is a solid tip that is an Extra Fast tip which allow it to cast lighter lures and detect the smaller nibbles.
