Being a step-father is totally different from being given a jacket. No sane man can continue to love a child he finds out to not be his child, the same way as he was before he found out. The trauma, societal embarrassment, psychological and physiological damage is way too big for a man who finds out a child is not his. It creates an immediate negative mindset for the man towards the child and will/could be damaging for future interactions with the child /children. There's some very selfish and devious women among us, because they often times put these men under way more pressure, knowing the child isn't his.
