It's like anything on life. People told me when I was younger to find a passion and make it your job.. it's useless info, don't make your fun a job, because finding fun then becomes difficult. Curious what you were paid to race in that team. Seems like alot of work out in for what Id assume tobe very little pay. I've took a few years off the Sim, but got a whole load of things to come back and race, with no pressure no expectations, and I'm really enjoying it atm.
@BeauAlbert Жыл бұрын
Yep, I listened to that advice and I regret it! I'll never disclose what I was paid from the team, but it wasn't luxurious living to put it simple! But yeah, getting rid of the expectations and pressure from it racing and just taking it for what it is, a game, makes it 20x more enjoyable for sure

@@BeauAlbert I don't think you should regret anything in life unless it hurt someone. It's learning, you'd have regret if you didn't give it a go. Sorry I wouldn't expect anyone to declare what they earn, it was more I just a I"I wonder" question, cause 8h a day is a full time job. Hopefully your internet situation improves so you can have fun streaming the odd race here and there. ✌️

Actually understand and agree with a lot of what you said. I've seen enough from others and reach similar points while not even doing it as a job. Any money or being paid or prize money just adds pressure and causes stress around getting the results. Very correct about the confidence and the mental game being half the game in being successful, that and using sim time efficiently. Doing too much can be worse than not enough. I've found that without doing fun sim racing i can't even attempt the serious stuff and if its your full time work then its very quickly going to be less fun.
@BeauAlbert Жыл бұрын
100% agree on needing a fun side of Simracing to even try the serious stuff. Great point Stenny 👍

Bro I think you have done a incredible job. Even tho it’s sim racing, the mental stress is no different to IRL. I'm a professional musician that's trying to get a full time job with an orchestra currently. Everything you said is so relatable to me. There's a saying we have in music school: "How do you get every bit of passion for music beaten out of you? Go to music school." I've been playing my instrument for over 15 years. I'm currently working towards 2 big auditions next month and if anything, I've learned and improved more in the past month practicing an hour or two a day than I have in a long time. In undergrad and grad school, I would end up playing (when you add up rehearsals, lessons, and individual practice time) 5-6 hours a day, my absolute physical limit. And yeah, I'd get burned out. Because the standards for winning a full time job are incredibly high, we can get so focused on technique that we get burned out and lose sight of why we do this in the first place - because we love playing music! And if you don't love it, why do it? Since I graduated, I've developed a bit of a freelance career in the area, so I've gotten to play some STUNNING music that I had never heard before that has rekindled the passion for orchestral music I once had. I'm very grateful for it.

Great Video Beau. Enjoyed watching your streams when I could when I was first getting into Sim Racing and loved having you on our podcast as a guest! My mindset around sim racing has changed heaps too. I went through a really frustrating patch as I started to finally get a little quicker and the racing became closer, the more often it would end poorly which is so hard to take at first. My mindset with how I race and take racing changed so much and I’ve improved so much just from changing my mindset and my enjoyment and results have improved because of it! The content lately has been awesome to watch! Keep it up. 😊

Great reflexion, that apply to all things in life... specially when youre doing what passionate you; if you tackle head on with all your energy you'll burn out fast, results are a long term commitment; teamwork is essential and you need to structure your day to day; enjoy your routine and focus on improve one or two aspects at a time. That's why in IT Agile methods are currently been used and sprints duration are two weeks most of the time. Hope to see more content from you.

Onya bro. I resonate with this a lot after a long career in music. The harder I worked, the more I burned out. The more reliance I placed on results, the worse my results became. Sim Racing these days has become the passion I pursue to step away from the noise of a creative career.

I was a rocket league esports player and coordinator at Texas state university and you described it perfectly… the first couple months I saw huge improvement and put all my spare time into managing the team or practicing/playing. But at the need of my time on the esports team I was struggling to play for 30min. After close call after close call I could never win anything, that with teammates just no showing to practice and tournaments. Between the constant change of teammates and halt to my improvement I lost confidence that I could be the best and it showed in my play. Even 18 months later when I try to play rocket league it makes me unbearablely angry and it’s the little mistakes I or my teammates do, that’s no way to enjoy a game

Big problem with virtual racing money is sponsorships. Real cars are sponsored by motor parts or a brand name. Neither are paying you to run their products or advertise in iRacing. Cars get sponsored because they're running a certain filter or motor oil.... sim racing doesn't have these options to run different parts on your car. And nobody is paying anyone to run a car paint with their brand name on it.
@BeauAlbert Жыл бұрын
You'd be surprised! My team at the time had plenty of paying sponsors, it's just us as drivers saw very little of it so I didn't necessarily mention it in this video, plus it's not something directly in the drivers hands either as a means of getting income
@DrSpoculus Жыл бұрын
@@BeauAlbert that's interesting. What kind of sponsorships? I completely overlooked sim racing gear as sponsors, so I'm guessing it's something like that? Wheels, pedals, sim cockpits, etc?

@BeauAlbert Жыл бұрын
Hey! It takes a lot of practise and just putting yourself out there really! There is no secret science unfortunately If you're at 3.3k it's worth remembering you're already in the Top 20% of the entire platform, so that's an achievement in itself!
