The taxi driver wasn’t going home, your trip was only short & not worth it to him, so he wanted to go elsewhere & hopefully pick up someone else who needed to go across the other side of the city & make more money or pick up a tourist, who again he could get more out of by way of a tip etc, English people rarely tip unless we have to.

Taxis here have screwed us a few times too. Soon as they see you are english. My one drove the longest route possible to charge me double what it should have been. If the trains were any good wed just use them but constant delays

Got scammed by a taxi in Prague when my mate ordered one to a bar as we were unfamiliar with the area, we discovered the day after it was a ten minute walk, the taxi took half an hour. At least we got a tour of the city😂
