I definitely agree with you saying that Aria was a bad friend in my opinion Aria was never a girls girl she was always super selfish and would ALWAYS put Ezra first

it doesn’t rlly bother me like - as a story arc that aria is a bad friend. in reality that sort of tracks - almost her entire life revolves around like, being stalked .. OR the fact that her teacher is grooming her. i think it makes sense that she would be temperamental & disconnected from the rest of the liars, as the only relationship she prioritizes is that if a 25 yr old man. the problem (for me) lies in that the show never addresses !! that she’s a shitty friend. in a better show, her bad friendship skills could’ve been interesting commentary on the ways abuse can affect all facets of someone’s life… but pretty little liars is definitely not that show.

Aria definitely had her moments as well, but most of the time she was suspiciously "missing the action" (like Lucy herself said) and prioritized other things over the girls. The show constantly tried to portray her as the "compassionate one in the group", and it would've been so juicy if they had actually underlined that it was somewhat performative and toxic - a mask, so to speak. That could've led to an amazing Aria is A-reveal, in my opinion. I understand we got the crumbs of it during season 7, and Lucy did her best with what she was given, but it could've been done so much better and without involving Ezra in her motives. There was so much in her past and family history that we haven't seen and it made her super-shady. Even if I had read the first books before watching the show, I waited for them to reveal at some point that the Montgomerys weren't in Island during the year after Alison disappeared (but perhaps taking care of their mentally unstable daughter and didn't want anyone to know?), and was very disappointed when that didn't happen. Her character had so much potential, but it was ruined when she became all about Ezra (who should've ended up in prison during season 1).

As much as I love Mona, I kinda agree she should have stayed dead (or even better, died within the Doll House. I'm not a fan of the whole 'death as a redemption arc' in general, but having her either die to help get the liars out or them coming into the Doll House to find her corpse (like she had been kidnapped, held for a while and then died, prompting Cece to kidnap the liars to replace her, and then they have to find and figure out various clues Mona left behind) would have really raised the stakes of this as an important event)

That would have been SO COOL!! Imagining the girls finding clues Mona left for them would have been an amazing plot and showcase how smart Mona is

i think my hottest take is the final A should’ve been jenna like she’s set up to have the most motive from the second episode of the show like ugh i get so upset when i think about the wasted potential of her character

Really unpopular opinion the show should of ended after the Mona reveal 🤷‍♂️ or the cece reveal should of been much sooner 3 and a half seasons was ridiculous and the way they had the fake a reveal in 4x24 and 5x25 was maddening like they said a was gonna be revealed and it wasn’t. Mona should of stayed dead after 5x12 it was so cheesy to have another stupid fake death that’s such an overused trope in this show it’s hillarious. And the fact they say that everything from 3x14 to 5x12 took place in a MONTH is maddening

Totally agree on Emison. They didn't have any chemistry and it always rubbed me the wrong way how Ali would only reciprocate Emily's feelings whenever she felt abandoned by everyone else or just lonely. Alison's bisexuality in general was poorly handled. Personally, I don't think she was ever supposed to be bi and both girls only got together because of how pushy their stans were. Apart from Maya and Emily, Haleb and Spoby, most romantic relationships were the least interest part of the show overall.

Ikkkk, and I understand them having feelings towards each other but never acting on it/being confused about it, i think it WORKED in the flashbacks when they were kids but their whole arc after Alison's return was just weird and uncomfortable to watch and the actors had ZERO chemistry.

Hold up here! I haven’t watched the show but I have read all the books so I just want to make a quick correction. Courtney was not the evil twin Alison was. However the liars Alison was Courtney (she took on Alison’s identity because the real Alison made it out that Courtney was the crazy one and had her parents send her away to an institution) Though out the prequel book Courtney refers to herself as Alison because she has been so traumatized by her sister she doesn’t want anyone to realize she is actually Courtney. That is why she becomes friends with the liars. They helped her assimilate into school since Alison’s OG friends would know that she wasn’t Alison. She also legit dies. Not missing, not sent away, she is dead and the “A” for most of the books is the real Alison. (Mona was only A for the first round of secrets and knew those secrets because she had liar Ali’s diary) Honestly the books were really good and I highly recommend although they are quite different from the show (Ezra is not important he is only really there during Mona’s time as A)

YES!! I like that in the new show, original sin, they hint that Kelly and Karen may have switched places. To me, the new show is much much much closer to the darkness of the books, and i love the og show, but in terms of connection to the books, original sin is better

i think i would’ve liked the show more past season 4 if alison had stayed away from rosewood, with them still meeting her in that back door pilot when she’s first revealed to be alive, but meeting her in ravenswood, where she’s been hiding out with grunwald since she disappeared. i think it would’ve been cool if she lived with grunwald and became the main character from ravenswood instead of caleb, with ravenswood focused on alison hiding away from rosewood, filling in the blanks from her time away and showing us what she’s doing in the present day from a distance to help the girls find A, instead of introducing the supernatural element. i don’t like caleb leaving for ravenswood and i don’t like alison returning to rosewood so it would’ve been a win win in my head 😂😂

I completely agree with everything you said, especially what you said about Cece and the liars five years later. While I was watching, everything seemed strange to me, probably because they wanted to show how grown up the girls were, but again I had the impression that it was about much older people and not girls who are in their early twenties…

when the episodes were coming out i LOVED emison. but now rewatching it, it’s so obviously wrong. i think i just don’t associate young manipulative alison with older suddenly a sweetheart alison yk? it feels like 2 different people to me so i never really make that connection LOL
