I put in my system in the hills above Ocho Rios myself. I'm handy with fixing stuff, but had never done solar before. I did not find it oo difficult, just have to follow some rules so you don't damage the equipment. I couldn't be happier, when I saw that it ran the fridge, even more so. Just a couple days after I put it in a tree fell on the JPS line down the road. I was the only one with electricity, sitting down relaxing drinking cold beer! I brought my components from the USA with the intention of upgrading but frankly don't see a reason to upgrade any more as everything is run off what I have. I think I'd like to put in a small AC, so that might need couple extra things (more panels and battery). All I have installed are - 800 watts of panels, an 80 amp MPPT charge controller, a 5,000 watt, peak 15,000 watt inverter and a 24 volt, 200 AH 5.12 KWH battery. Even on cloudy days the battery is fully charged from the night before use by about 11am. I put 24 volt led light bulbs all through the house. These bulbs are full size and look like regular bulbs, but they are 24 volt. I'm running a 15 Cu. Ft fridge, a 900 watt microwave, a 1,000 X 2 watt hotplate (only in daytime when battery is full), a 50" TV (a lot), fans, etc. Of course all the things like laptop, internet and phones and charging, etc included. The charge controller and inverter I have are overkill for what I need, that was done on purpose so no matter how big I try to go I wouldn't need those replaced. The inverter is split phase, so 120/240 volts. For upgrading I would need more panels (800 watts is not a lot) and at least another battery. Unlike you, I won't mix battery specs, I prefer that all the batteries be the same spec and they all have to have the same charge before connecting. You even have to use the same length wire to connect multiple batteries.

Wow!. Well said my brother and am sure a lot of my subscribers are learning and taking notes. Well a few more watts on your array will not hurt especially if you are considering a A/C unit, also you will need more batteries. My battery provider is locally base and I had contacted them before concerning the batteries, however the only difference is the kWh and also one of them have wifi capability. I know the joy you feel, when jps is down and you are still able to do the normal stuff on your solar system😁!. Thanks for your much needed comment

I doubt the batteries are Lithium, they are most likely Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) which is a very stable chemistry battery, nothing like the old Lithium which was very unstable and caught fire easily. But people shorten the LiFePo4 name and call it Lithium.

Great video. I feel your excitement for not only helping The environment, but also helping the country reduce need for foreign oilimports . Jamaica have nuff sunshine and as a bo us yuh can go tell JPS fi go dead a bush! One safety point though. Put those Lithium batteries OUTSIDE! It is rare, but IF the batteries catch fire, it's over 3500 degrees that the fire dept can't put out without massive amounts of water and time. Which Jqmaica fire brigade never show up with either. At the end if it's on the inside the yuh whole house gone

How many watts do you have on your charge controller? And what are the specs on the Epever controller? Please and thanks.
@subbydiy
@subbydiy 2 жыл бұрын
Well the wattage is Determin by the voltage of your system, my system is a 24v system so my controller is 2500w. For a 12v system it would be 1250w. For a 36v it’s 3700w and for a 48v system it would be 5000w. Also considering that my charge controller is a 100Amp charger. Well the specs on it are alot. Over volts protection and warning, over charge protection warning and disconnection . Over temperature warning. The capability to use WiFi and Bluetooth viewing and change settings. It have a nice lcd display screen and also the option of using the MT50 display that makes the settings more easier to understand. Settings are there also to accommodate the different types of batteries. Generator capability and a lot more features. Very nice controller for the price.

@@subbydiy We've been running on solar for about five months. I've got SimpliPHI batteries at about 15,000 watts and 24 100 watt panels. I like these batteries because they've warranted for ten years and have a life of 10,000 cycles. I've only got a couple more appliances to get attached and we'll be totally solar. Since we live way up north in Northern Wisconsin I have to adjust the angle of the panels for summer and winter. That's probably something that you do not need to do.
