I commend Schrade for really trying. I commend you for taking the time to put out a video to try and educate Schrade. Honestly, Schrade needs to reach out to some respected members of the community for some advice. I believe that most of us knife folks would pay $150+ for one of these blades if done right. 14c28n/nitro v/154cm, multiple blade shape options, reasonable grinds, good action, etc. Let's face it, many of us had dads, grandpas, uncles, brothers carrying a Schrade when we were kids, and I for one, long for that nostalgia. Thanks for the vid J-Rod. Hope you and Kara are doing well, buddy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cobra Tec is actually assembling them for Schrade. Generally any OTF with D2 that's less expensive comes from Cobra Tec and they put a different logo on it. They do it for a bunch of other companies but they also offer a bunch of D2 options themselves. They're the lowest end I would ever go with an OTF before you run into steel that doesn't hold an edge and unreliability.

They seem like a decent knife for $99. Melissa abused one of these pretty harshly and it kept working.

Get one if you think so, I have no doubt they are tough my issue is all the other details proper edge bevel, heat treatment, cutting geometry etc.. my point is you can get a lightning otf for 30 to 40$ of same quality if not even better
@BlownF1503 ай бұрын
They are decent and there are promo codes knocking 25% off, you can get one shipped to your door for about $80 when tax is figured in. Yeah you could get a Lightning OTF for $30 but you are getting a knife with reviews like "hasn't failed to fire yet".

Schrade has a lot of potential, I have the Scrade SCHF51M which is a 10 " frontier knife they call, to me its a survival knife complete with diamond sharpener, and flint striker. I bought that blade because I seen this dude on KZbin, drive that thing through a giant log and dude looked heavy and he put all his weight trying to break the blade from the side but couldn't. Schrade has it for $54, though I paid $43 for it back in 2021, and never regretted it.

I think they do look like decent knives for the sub $100 price. They definitely should get rid of the billboard and just have the logo.

Please review the creatce ares it has almost no blade play looks amazing and it is only 80 bucks comes with n690 timascus clip amaozng blade grind check it out it is a Chinese otf but it isnt a clone. It is premium Chinese not cheap stuff. It is the best otf under 500 i kid you not. Just an amzing knife that i couldnt believe was this good. It has 2 downsides the bolts could be centred a bit more and the deploy is a bit tight but will wear in.

There are tons of people who could tell them what they're doing wrong but so few of the companies out there nowadays, knife related or not, seem to care to listen to their consumers anymore. I hope that someday soon it starts actually impacting bottom lines.

@timwhite55625 ай бұрын
I'll tell you this, it's a WHOLE lot easier to buy automatic knives now than it was in the 80s and 90s. Back then you had to find the right issue of Field and Steam or Soldier of Fortune (🙄), and find the ad in the back to send away for the catalog it would show up in a Manila envelope and consist of several pages stapled together. They xeroxed the knives, then physical cut and pasted them into rows on the page. So the closest you got to see Was a black and white xerox copy of a knife. They'd send them out not fully assembled to make it past the "automatic"part that would make them illegal. They'd label them replicas, then you had to set the sprint up.

Strop it often after daily use, only sharpen maybe once a week, depending on how dull it’s getting. Hone it back on a ceramic rod in between.

I always perceived OTFs to be pretty much a self defense tool vs an EDC user. That’s might just be me though...
@sw-gz9ps5 ай бұрын
horrible choice for self defense, the action can fail if anything blocks its path. For knife self defence nothing beats a small fixed blade with a belt sheath. Although generally a knife is never a very good self defense tool as you are either likely in a country where firearms are legal, or a country where knives are illegal.

The tinny sound, the terrible grinds, the billboarding... that's enough to make this not worth it at all. Cobratec is a much better option for this price point. Parts from overseas, built in usa, lots of otf options around $100
