My urban sketching day trip results!

After some questions, I decided to do a quick video covering what I ended up using from the urban sketching kit I put together on the weekend. I'm also sharing the different drawings I did while in Winsum, as well as my thoughts on how they turned out.

You had such a productive day, congratulations! I liked the diptych soread between the two sketchbooks. It looks very fresh and spontaneous. Drawing and painting outside is hard. You now jnow what you like and what you didn't use. As for seating, check out the Walkstool, made in 🇸🇪. They are light but stable, comfortable and the legs are collapsible. It fits well in a backpack. I ❤ mine and take it to all my sketch walks and hikes. Your green tiny container with the inktense blocks caught my eye. It is so cute! I look forward to your upcoming videos

Thank you for this great video. I too have wanted to join the local urban sketching group but have been a chicken. lol. I also liked your sketch that you did across the two smaller sketchbooks, I think what I liked was the different values, made it more vibrant. These are terrific and I’m so impressed that you put yourself out there and did an urban sketching group which is some thing I haven’t gotten brave enough to do. I think what I like most is how your sketches evolved as you kinda get more comfortable with the subject. I really appreciate what you use. I’m getting ready to go on a trip and I have packed so much stuff I need to go and reevaluate what I’m taking.

Oh, thank you so much! It was definitely anxiety inducing, but I took my OH with me (and left him at a cafe) so I didn't have too much time to myself to 'worry', and then I was there and getting stuck in. I hope that you get to go yourself one day... 😎 And I hope your trip is going well too!

If I can only take one medium, I take a watercolour palette with a waterbrush and a waterproof pen. But it’s fun to mix and match on the spot if you can carry more. You might like Helen Cryer’s “splodge and scribble” method for plein air.

That makes sense, and usually I do take a lot less when it's just me on my own. 😎 Yes, I've seen her videos using that method, but I think I'm a bit too much of a perfectionist for it.. It alarms me having too much 'splodge' on my page from the outset.. 😬 but I should give it another go.

I got a secondhand “zuca” wheeling bag from FB marketplace. It holds heaps of art gear up to a4 size and it’s a seat. I love taking it out on art trips now.

I can't wait for the tool roll thingy video to come up 🧐😁 I've paused the video just before you was about to mention the tool roll pattern on your business page and was going to ask a question about the roll and if you made it yourself, is there a pattern that you used from somewhere or made it yourself, so I guess these sort questions all will be answered in the upcoming video? Sorry for long mumbling here 🙈😁😜
