Expecting people to convert from a standard American diet to a strictly whole foods, plant based diet is insane. The vast majority of people won't be able to do it. Making veganism accessible for the average person is the goal. Processed vegan foods and mock meats help so many people transition. Once people become more comfortable with eating only plants, they'll usually naturally evolve and transform their diets to include less processed mock meats, and more whole foods. But if they don't, who cares? The goal was to stop eating animals.

I've been a whole-food vegan for about a year now and I really don't miss meat at all. It smells gross to me now. But I know that it's a lot easier to cook for my meat-eating family using plant based meat substitutes, whenever they have dinner at my place. I agree that delicious meat substitutes lessen the need for meat. It's still about the animals for me, not so much about my health. Even though I feel much healthier now than I ever did before I went vegan. Thanks for the vid!

I have stopped mid-way in 2012 for a yr with a BF who was only vegetarian. I felt a huge difference in my health and skin. I don't think I will ever be a nonvegan again at this point. I think fake meats are not bad for transitioning but for me, I always disliked the smell and taste so stick to WFPB homemade foods. For that reason I feel it should have been a discussion between them both, or a video simply addressing the subject, rather than the title & thumbnail used, directing it as a beef between Ed & Russell. Ed addresses the fact that the video isn't an attack on Russell as a response video, but the title/thumbnail suggests it is, and consequently might drum up hate & negativity where its not necessary. @@bananabrain2996 Judging is intrinsic to morality, there's no way around it. Veganism being a moral philosophy entails judgement of one's action towards animals. The "non-judgemental" vegan never existed, never will be. It's one thing to avoid being confrontational (I get it, it can be socially ostracizing) but believing that non-judgement is somehow preferable is not only performatively contradictory but detrimental to the movement and ultimately to the animals.

If you’re going to change your diet and try to become vegan because you want a “healthier” diet and be fit, then you’re most likely going to give up sooner or later and eventually fail. Now, if you’re wanting to give veganism a try because you actually DO love animals and are against all the cruelty and because of ethics, then I guarantee you you’ll most likely, if not will, stay and become vegan. So bottom line, don’t do it cuz of health, do it cuz of the animals and moral ethics. Period.

Oh well. . . I had hoped that maybe Ed Winters was the ONE who had come to bring veganism to the notice of mainstream society along the lines of other great struggles from the past (suffrage, civil rights, gay rights etc.) I dreamed that with his following, media presence, skill, and contacts veganism would emerge from these echo chambers and move beyond the one-person-at -a- time approach through debate. Instead he gives us tee shirts. There is no real vegan movement.

@Paul Semmens You are suggesting I am brainwashed while you think it absolutely has to be this way simply because it has been this way. As if it were without alternative. Those two oldest people also didn't live on green energy so that must be a fluke as well. Sure, animal byproducts are efficient in those regards but that shouldn't mean we ought not to look for better ways. And those ways are there, they might just be detours or uncomfortable - for you.

I've been vegan for over 15 years now and to be honest I can't remember a meal I have which doesn't have anything processed. I never went vegan because I didn't like the taste or my health! When I first went vegan you couldn't even get soya milk in the supermarket it was tough as I never liked fruits and vegetables but my moral compass was far more important to me so I made do, now I don't have to make do and I'm loving I can have the taste and texture of the type of foods I love.

I'm always thinking that poor vegans are completely brainwashed to the point that they destroy their bodies with unnatural, made made trash that either has no nutrition, or inaccessible nutrition for humans. The natural, ideal human diet is animal organs, animal flesh, blood, eggs, raw milk and some fruit. The Earth is a brutal relentless place, and humans are just a result of it.
