I used to work for the USCIS national call center (The government organization behind visas, permanent residence (Green cards), and citizenship.) The way people use marriage to become residents and later citizens is through petitioning your family member to become a resident. It starts off with a F1/F3 fiancé visa (depending on whether you're in country or out of country and whether you're coming here to get married or already married outside the U.S.) This is information from 10+ years ago and very well might have changed in the interim. Though, these types of things usually stay the same for long periods of time. Usually only changing when a hole in the security, efficiency of the systems, or some legal situation crops up and forces their hand. After you do all the paper work, your spouse is in the states, and you've filed for permanent residence status. First, that application is enough to allow for them to be here legally and in some instances work, so long as they've been given a social security number/card. Then, after that application gets approved, you'll be given a 2-year probationary permanent resident status. For those two years, you better by god be married. The process is a fucking nightmare if you are, and impossible if you're not. They will have someone randomly show up at your house to make sure both people are there, that there are indicators that the couple is living together, that if they aren't there you better have a good reason. Then, they will interview you to death. "What color is your spouse's toothbrush?", "Who usually gets up first in the morning?", "If you were to need X random item, where would be the quickest place to grab it from if you're in Y location." and then they ask the other person those same questions. There is no rhyme or reason to what gets asked, so long as they show common living space, and you can't really "prep" for it. (Except for actually doing it.) I know they are entertainers and that they are able to easily say, "We were just kidding, obviously..." but I promise you, the U.S. government does not have a sense of humor. This clip and any others will 100% be brought up in those interviews. They will ask her why she emigrated to Canada from Colombia and now is in the U.S. doing the same thing. It gets personal, petty, and mean. (At least it feels that way.) The process feels a lot like you're slamming your hand in a car door while trying to remember why you're doing it. It can also just hit a snag and take, no exaggeration, decades. I would often get calls from people checking on some form status that they had filed in the '80s or '90s. They do background checks for immigration more than they do for visas. They will keep digging until they find something. Anything. The cleaner you are, the worse it can be. Then, congratulations, you get your Permanent Resident status... for 10 years! After, I believe, 10 years, you can file to naturalize and become a U.S. citizen. That is yet another intentionally lengthy and frustrating process that can very, very often take as long to get approved as it does to be eligible in the first place. However, once that's done, you're a citizen until you die or renounce it. Even if you renounce it, it has to be while you're abroad and a citizen of somewhere else. You can't just wake up in the U.S. one day and say, "Fuck ya'll! I'm not American anymore! Ya'lls rules don't apply to me no more!" and then start chanting some "Sovereign Citizen!" nonsense. Regardless of what some dipshit said in those videos you watched when you accidentally stumbled into on the wrong side of KZbin. TLDR: The process of getting a marriage based permanent resident status can be a fucking nightmare, it's easier to do it legit than to fake, and these clips, as jocular as they are, *WILL* be used in the interviews she goes through. They aren't a dealbreaker, but they will absolutely add unnecessary hurdles to the process. Obviously, consult an attorney or firm that handles immigration before taking a KZbin comment as gospel. I know most people will find this unbelievably boring, but some will find it interesting or were curious how this all works. Good luck!
