The bill shows Rs 395 in Dec 1973. A neighbour of my village bought it in 1974 at Rs 450/- . Then I was 14 and used to listen to SLBC and Vividh Bharati from this radio along with him during my school holidays for hours. A 9 volt silicon transistor set best known for its sound quality along with Skipper set. Clear and crisp sound.

Shri. Vivek ji .........You have a great vintage Philips set , which has a good voice output. Only two problems i was able to detect when you tuned into various radio station all over the world and in India. Firstly , when u change the band ...or switches .....it makes a noise ...chaad chaad ..... Secondly , when u tune into stations or without tuning into stations it is making slight hmmmm noise and which by time will grow more. This is because for the simple reason radio is getting old. Now , i will talk technical and then u can remove both problems and listen to radio much better. Talking about first problem ....chaad chaad ( irritating sound) ....this is because of rust in the switches. Please put some ( very little ) kerosene or WD 40 ....in to the switches. This problem will finish immediately and the switch movement will become very soft. Regarding , second problem .....hmmmmm noise ......please get the main electrolytic capacitor change from ur local electrical shop. Be carefull that , they do not change the mfd and volts of the capacitor. We are into restoration work and repaired / restored many vintage / antique sets of such kind may be Indian or European or American. my website is www.restorationwala.com.

But most people were defaulters both town and villages, as the postman was supposed to check it as additional charge without additional pay for it. So they didn't care, nor they had any coercive power like police. Then Radio licence was abolished when Rajiv Gandhi came to power.
