you're not going to hear a difference in balanced output unless you're using really hard to drive headphones that are distorting at high gain on the non-balanced connection. it just adds like 3db of gain and makes it cleaner, but you wont hear those noises in the first place with 99% of headphones

As a side note: the comparison of wireless headphone audio quality to wired headphone audio quality is a lot more challenging when you find some TWS IEMs or headphones that support a good implementation of LDAC. LDAC is a much better bluetooth codec for high fidelity audio streaming compared to AAC, SBC, or any of the Apt-X codecs. Apple's bluetooth codec is mid, at best. Sony's is much better, but is also more battery hungry. It's only been very recently that ultra-efficient bluetooth transcoders have been released so that you could legitimately afford the power drain on devices like TWS IEMs. Otherwise, you had to go for big on-ear and over-ear bluetooth headphones with much larger battery capacities to compensate.

I got one and I have used mine for a month now here are some points. 1 The gps is a hit or miss, some have reported to it working and some not, for me it doesnt work and yes I have enabled it in the settings, this is critical since some of my banking apps require gps services to work, perhaps they will fix it in the future. 2 The sharp edges are annoying and after I have seen some teardowns of the phone, the sharp edges are completely unnecessary, im thinking of actually 3dprinting a new shell myself. 3 the vibration motor is absolute ass and makes annoying sounds when used so even having it on for using the keyboard is not nice at all. 4 the EQ in the audio app is kinda buggy atm and turns itself off from time to time, I also wished it only applied itself when playing music so it excluded the in-call sound and ringtones etc. 5 wireless charging would be nice. 6 the battery could have been bigger, as the phones feel really thin in the hand and since it allready has a big "camera" bump I wished they tried to tone down that bump a little and then made the entire phone the same thickness while using the extra space for battery and wireless charging. 7 the output power of the 4.4mm is absolutely insanely high on a phone and its awesome since even with a pair of highly demanding iem's you will have a lot of headroom even for eq. 8 both the audio jacks are sturdy and all cables seat deep in there and dont feel like they will fall out (yes this is a problem of some phones, looking at you lg v-series). 9 The lacking google apps you had in this video are disabled by default and you can enable them in the settings in the phone under settings->apps. 10 The battery issues mentioned is something I have not encountered. 11 The audio pop that linus noticed with wired headphones is also something i dont have on my phone. FYI im running the update 1.0 from may 31 2024 and last checked june 24 With the prise to take into consideration I think the phone is a somewhat good deal and even more now that both lg and asus rog stopped either making phones or removed their good amp/dac the single only phone on the market that fits as a good "audiophile" phone is the moondrop one. If the points I mentioned were to be changed or addressed in a moondrop miad02 then id recommend that one more, and for them to increase the prise about 20% for better quality id still think it would be a good deal.

I don't get it, I thought the point of balanced audio was to reduce noise over long (especially analog) cables in noisy EM environments (e.g. running alongside a bunch of other audio cables in a studio). What's the point of having a balanced headphone cable that short?
@chocolatezt2 ай бұрын
Balanced cables work for every distance, doesn't matter if long or short. If you're on the go you're more likely to encounter emf that could disturb your signal, so nothing wrong with going balanced. The phone itself is already enough to induce noise into the cable, just putting my phone on my unbalanced cables causes the gsm signals to be audible, nothing on the balanced input.

You can buy a new in box LG V60 still today for like $200. That's the best 3.5mm audio experience you're going to get in a phone, period. It'll run an IEM. I'll run a full size can. It'll run an IEM on the full size can output with a 75ohm airline impedance adapter to bump up the impedance to force the larger output amp (it actually sounds even better this way in most cases I've tried, although this is also modifying frequency response a little(varies how by IEM)). It's only low point versus new phones is the sluggish screen. How big of a deal is buying a V60 ThinQ versus a modern Snapdragon based phone? Surely the difference is minimal for any easy to drive earphone, right? Wrong. The difference is substantial. For example, I have a Zenfone 11 Ultra as my modern phone. I have older audio geared phones like the ROG 2 and 5, the V60 ThinQ, and the much older ZTE Axon 7. Oddly, out of all of them it was the old, old, old Axon 7 that had the next best 3.5mm audio, not as much amperage but very good sound. It's not just a power limit. How substantial are we talking? Well, it's not just about power, although that is a factor if you ever want to use a full size can. A 6XX is getting near max volume levels on a modern Snapdragon based phone just for medium listening levels. The V60 is more than 4x the output capability. That overhead not just covers loudless but also dynamic range. But bigger yet is the way it presents sound and how much you lose in detail, clarity, resolution. Even the soundstage capability is significantly different. First a caveat. Some of this really depends on how good your earphone/headphone is in order to convey these differences. Some products don't express much of a difference. Lower end hardware, most of the hardware someone might have with their phone or as a branded accessory for their phone aren't actually very good. The "good" stuff is low end mid levels stuff. I don't care if it's an airpod, Galaxy bud, or whatever brand you like, most are not very good. Most will be low enough in performance to not show much of a difference. Most people running this hardware just won't hear the difference. With better hardware, the differences become substantial. For bass response, the lack of power means loss of bass control, output, and dynamics. The Snapdragon output loses the body and whack of a note, losing the mass of the sound. It's missing authority of note, presence, and impact. A "Whump" turns into a "tick" and the mass afterwards just isn't there. The control isn't there either. Mids and highs follow a similar path with a loss of power and authority of note. Crispness of note, cleanliness, and articulation goes away. The sound is clean, sure, but it's only clean in the sense that it's now presenting static/noise. The sound is more jumbled and messy because it's all smashed down flat. The sound stage takes a massive hit. What I mean is the ability to CREATE a sound stage present goes away. The sound stage presentation becomes paper thin, losing depth and separation, losing placement. It's not just a sense of depth and separation. It's also width and panning of content. Even just left to right is worse. What about some of the resent Sabre DAC options like that of the older ROGs? Well, they're better but still a good step down. The V60 is sooooo close to a desktop DAC/amp that everything else is a full step down and the Snapdragon is a good deal further down from there and with major competency flaws. Like it makes good earphones sound bad, baaaaaad! The perceived value of any highly competent earphone/headphone goes significantly down. It's a big enough problem that someone could be spending $1k+ on products, just using a bad source, and having no idea why people pay so much for some of these products. A bad source device makes great audio gear sound mediocre at best. They'll still be better than most everything else, but they won't shine. And outside of a V60, I don't know of a single other phone on the market outside of that LG series (V30, V60, etc.) running the same audio hardware that is capable of providing a very good phone based audio experience. This is why the stupid dongle thing is so prevalent, or you're strapping a more proper portable DAC/amp to the side of your phone and building a brick of an object just to have good audio. I'm hoping at least one modern company is willing to get back into the audio game. It's sad that a 4 year old phone annihilates everything else on the market since.

This. I genuinely cannot fathom why this is such a trend. Lay your phone on your desk, and it wobbles when you breathe. Also, a set of shoulder buttons as a standard. It could genuinely make so many things on a phone beyond just games.
