Great documentary! Did a few tours there also. Spent a few operations in Helmand province as well. Quite the hotspot and shithole. Did my tours during the summer and I know how hot it gets there…crazy! Respect and cheers from Canada.

sounds like the Danes had a thermometer that wasn't working correctly, as the world record for hottest temperature is 134 (and therefore the 147 reading is impossible). i once got a reading of 120 in the DC area so i know thermometers can do this when left in the sun. in any case, i've LOVED seeing this series - ours in the USA seem to be less graphic, and while it's hard to watch, it makes you realize how much these guys go through! in the US we don't often hear about specific countries that joined us, except sometimes the Brits, so it's great to see this from a Danish perspective. these guys are heroes!

+sprinklefriend They probably confuse us with the Brits. Our soldiers work very close with them and about 80% of all Danes are fluent in English. Also Denmark is a very, very small country. There's only 5 million of us which means you could fit the entire Danish population in New York and still have room for 3 million more. Not a country most Yanks will have heard about, I suspect.

+sprinklefriend I don't know how you guys measure temperatures but it can also be a matter of measuring them in different ways. Usually temperatures are measures in the shade here. So if they say something like "Tomorrow we'll see temperatures around 30 degrees." it doesn't mean you can't get 40 degree measurements in direct sunlight. If their thermometer was left in the sun on a vehicle or a stone/clay roof or whatever in direct sunlight it's not impossible to get crazy reading. It doesn't mean they were relaxing in those temperatures though. It just means a surface can get really fucking hot in direct sunlight.

Thank you for your praise of our soldiers. And there might have been a bad translation regarding the temp. They say "upwards of 50°c, and warmer in the sun" which is 122°F. :) So you are absolutely correct! But what they actually state, is also correct. It just wasn't translated properly! Me and my friends have worked with Danish army when they were in Afghanistan and it was not easy days from Danish army and also for us, we really missed they old days but some time our friends say that Danish army used us for they own goal. I wish one day Danish army also talk about us because we were part of their army and hard works but no one has ever spoke about us, I wish one day Danish people call us the heroes because we worked longer then any Danish army group... While watching this movie it really took me to the old memories where we all worked hard to bring change and free Afghanistan but it was a dream and it never has happened , God bless all those brothers who lost their life's. Respect to all of them ............ We were the heroes of our time while dancing with devils in our mind. ( Mashall Khazan)

I get you brother. But keep in mind, here in Denmark, EVERYBODY basicly vaulenteers to go to help. So maybe we unfortunately stay and do as much as we'd like. But we did it by our own choice! And what our politicians decide, is not something a soldier can change. I wish we could have build more schools, mosques etc. but that wasn't possible. I just hope the Afghan people look back, and think "Atleast they did SOMETHING". :)

It was too interesting to see how the war is from a soldier's point of view, I mean, by their words and images. However, it's a pity that people have been losing their lives (both sides and also the civilians) for something that there's no reason to exist or that is just an economic issue (once the "allies" don't care at all about another non-democratic state with what they have a good comercial relationship). Maybe these wars will never finish and they will keep doing the same, but I hope the entire world will getting more and more aware about this big mistake over the years (though we should have already learned it, we are late).

I Afghanistan er der sindssygt meget fint støv, der let kan sætte sig fast på indersiden af våbnet i kammeret - det er næsten umuligt at undgå. Optagelserne ser ud til at være fra 2009, og vi har dog også fået både ny kampriffel, den canadiske C8IUR, og er ved at indføre et nyt LMG også. Så der bliver skam taget sig af udstyret ;)

Not an expert but probably an Sniper, even having them two, would make no difference. At those ranges probable an assault rifle could do the same, with the benefit of having more ammo per magazine. They're looks to be fighting at 200-300m, not +700m.

It depends on the location and the operation. There were Danish soldiers stationed at and out of Camp Price (MOB Price) where a lot of British and American soldiers were also operating from. The same goes for Camp Bastion. FOB Sandford, FOB Armadillo, FOB Keenan and PB Barakzai were just the British and Danish troops I believe. Most Danes were stationed in the Helmand province in the south and were mainly working with the British forces. But Americans were there as well so they obviously also worked together at times.

The MG3 variant was put in production in 1968 by Rheinmetall AG, a German company. The are not rebuild weapons from the 50’s! That said, they’re still disappointing to use. I spent a year shooting that piece of crap. To be fair, it depended on what state your weapon was in. How old and worn out the parts was. We had 1 MG3 in our platoon that worked flawless, even when firing blanks. The other two squads was not so lucky with theirs. Firing blanks was especially problematic. I would expect then danes in Afghanistan to get the best available MG3s in army inventory with them. So all the more depressing with the malfunctions.
