I'm Aja Dang and come with me as we go through my Wedding theme Pinterest board. The theme is..... LUSH ROMANCE. Will I be able to keep our wedding under budget? I think so...I hope so..? Our current guest list is at 75 but I'm happy to chop 8 people... (bitch is ruthless) 🤷🏻‍♀️
I'm also going home for Christmas to meet with some vendors so I'll be doing a wedding budget video soon once all the major things are decided (food, drinks... I guess that's it lol).

We also decided against having a bridal party, for the exact same reasons. We had a short ceremony and just had all our guests stand and gather around us, instead of having to set up chairs in rows. It felt a lot more intimate and less like a show.

One tip to keeping your Pinterest board organized and under control use sub-boards. I had a sub-boards for dresses, florals, table decor, hair and makeup, so on and so forth. It especially helps with vendors because they know exactly where to go when looking for references for your big day.

My sister had long tables at her wedding also with your same intentions but there were awkward gaps throughout the tables as people tend to not want to sit next to someone they dont know. It looked really bad and guests couldnt find seats if they came in a group. It was a big oversight. I highly recommend assigned seating 😕

I went to one wedding where they just had a selfie stick with someone’s phone hooked up. It was a hit. People took goofy photos all night and then the bride and groom printed out their favorites to make the guest book. Also for my sisters wedding, we went to the farmers market for all the flowers and spent maybe $200 total for the bouquets and centerpieces.

So pretty!!!! Love the Lush Romance vibes. I frequent our local farmers market in my neighborhood and will be using them for flower arrangements for our wedding. Price range is around $5-$8, which is fantastic. I am not a fan of traditional bouquets, I think flowers be more spread out than bundled up. Also we are going for lots of candles, will most likely get them a couple of months in advance from Ikea or elsewhere. How are you planning on sending the invites? I feel like just sending them an email blast sort of thing but also I like the idea of sending a small card with the link to the website. Happy planning!!!!

i didn't mention but yes, we are going to do an email blast for everyone but maybe get 1-4 invites for our parents and my Popo... bc they'll keep that stuff. So for your candle situation. Brian bought candles for our engagement and he spent $1000 at Ikea.

I also want a small wedding and not have to bother anyone to be a bridesmaid or groomsmen but I was concerned about the superficial aspects of it like not having a wedding party for pictures or if I would make any friends/family feel bad if I didn’t ask.. I think in the end , like you said if someone’s important they are invited and that’s what matters

When I got married we got a bunch of Polaroid film & had people take photos & like you said, they kept what they wanted and we had the rest. It’s a great reminder & wedding guest book idea that I love looking back on every now & then to this day, more than 5 years later 🥰 Also on places to cut corners (as someone who planned her wedding for ~$1k USD in 6 weeks): to save on flowers I had friends volunteer (I didn’t ask them) to make my flower crown & bouquet so it was their wedding gift to me. We also had a friend who baked cakes casually bake our cake & she did the whole exposed cake way of frosting it before it was a trend haha & she used leftover baby’s breath we had to decorate it. It was perfect for us :) also for the end of the night some friends bought a bunch of sparklers for us to send us off so if you have friends that don’t mind covering that, that helps too! We also didn’t have a bridal party but that was mostly cause we got married quickly. An idea that another friend of mine did that you could save money on (maybe) is get legally married at a courthouse a couple days prior or something & you can have anyone you want be your officiant for your wedding without worrying about whether they’re certified or not. Like that friend had her father in law officiate the wedding. Also that way it can be more sentimental/meaningful & you don’t have to spend money to hire a licensed minister for however many hours (assuming your family is okay with you guys doing that of course).

Flowers are both the easiest and hardest to cut corners on (source: have worked wedding flowers) great idea with the baby's breath, and I would suggest for the greenery some stand out large ones among ferns, to draw the eye but also not feel like you have to keep inserting flowers. (We did greenery columns- and if I didn't tell you half the greens were fake leaves from craft aisle no one would have known! Key is to have most focal points be real of course). Ferns on the side of the aisle are always beautiful too, maybe with that candle theme running through them as well... I am SO excited for you !!!
@AjaDang
@AjaDang 2 жыл бұрын
thanks for your suggestion! Is there a place to rent fake greenery or is that something I need to buy?
@lizanik8541
@lizanik8541 2 жыл бұрын
@@AjaDang we purchased it, depending on the greens you go for this could be a dollar tree run honestly. But since we kept those columns for future installs we got the cheapest fake stuff at Michael's, maybe $50 worth? They have sales on the fake flowers sometimes so keep an eye out it can be 50% off

One big way I cut costs on my florals was I purchased loose mixed eucalyptus from my florist and hand laid it (my venue laid it out) as a faux runner on my tables. It saved SOOOO much money when compared to buying assembled runners from my florist. And my florist was actually the ones who recommended it.

This video is exactly the content I want right now! I'm planning a June 2022 wedding and kinda stressing out about it. We even pinned a lot of the same things and share the same romantic greenery vibes, long tables, and Edison bulbs. Except my wedding is in Vermont, so more forest-y vibes. Also, I feel exactly the same way as you about wedding photos. So far that's been the hardest part for me. I found this amazing woman who does more editorial wedding photos and has a background in portraiture. No cheesiness, flattering for everyone, all the important moments and emotions captured, and the story of the wedding communicated well

When you are speaking to smaller bakeries for the dessert bar ask if they have bulk pricing if you do a minimum number of items. If you have 75 guests you likely should have 2/3 pieces per guest. They may lower the cost per piece down with a minimum order/spend

Repurpose/reuse any of the decor, foliage and flowers from the ceremony area back into the reception area. It always gets forgotten about and then you just spending more on the same thing. Encourage your guests to take home some of the flowers or plants (whether cut or potted) too if they want it (buy a roll of brown Kraft paper and twine for wrapping). Or floral arrangements can be donated to a local church, care home or hospital. An inexpensive wedding favour idea are plantable recycled seed paper or sticks with wildflower seeds embedded in them. Good luck with planning, from experience it can be overwhelming and stressful but it’s worth it.

You could probably find a bunch of used wedding decor on Facebook marketplace, like vases, signs, 100s of fake candles.... it's how we got a bunch of cheap stuff. Also a great way to reuse things, since wedding decor is usually one time use and gets thrown out afterwards.

Aja, Thank you for sharing your thought process between vision and how it relates to your budget!! Your wedding is going to be beautiful and memorable for sure. I don’t have a lot of advice but as far as sustainability goes, for me personally I was super happy to find a woman owned and operated flower farm local to our destination venue. We aren’t doing bouquets just some centerpiece florals, but the best part is when we visit the area at the same time of year down the road, my wife and I can go to the flower farm and pick the same flowers. We are also thrifting a lot of decor since we are so heavily DIY with our budget. That may be difficult since you’re flying, but maybe you can recruit family and friends on the island to help you find some pieces of decor that are most essential to your look. I made a 3 page “vision” board with colors and pictures of our venue space and preferred decor, to ask my parents and close friends to help me find some thrifted pieces that I want. Congrats again on your engagement!!

You were smart to go almost all greenery, flowers really drive up the cost! I think you covered most of the ways to cut costs, no favors, local spots for wedding food, if you reconsider getting a DJ that would be the next way to cut costs. Also one thing I didn’t realize that saved me money was getting rentals from one place, even if you find a slightly better price at another vendor it is worth it to place a “bulk” order especially if your venue is way out there and not easily accessible because delivery cost of rentals is going to bite you back haha. Not only does buying more with one vendor get them to agree to deliver to your far out venue but you don’t have to pay whatever service/cleaning/delivery fee they put on top to multiple vendors and it just goes to one vendor. It didn’t save me a ton of money but a lot of logistical headache when I almost considered picking up the rentals myself and taking it to the venue and being responsible for returning the rentals myself the Monday after. Oh and for your bach parties ask for alcohol to stock the bar as gifts if your venue allows you to bring your own alcohol, another way to save money! My wedding is not until next May haha but this is what I’ve got so far! Looking forward to seeing your wedding unfold, so happy and excited for you Aja!!

Aja! I helped a friend of a friend with his floral business for a few months in the summer - hearing you mention that you wanted a clear tent AND lots of greenery for your reception - depending on what time it’ll take place, have all the greenery set up where you want at the very, very last minute (we did it for a wedding just before the guests arrived past noon; we were so sweaty from moving so quick but it was worth it) so that they’ll last longer throughout the event. :) Overall, such a beautiful concept and thank you for sharing!

hi me again, sorry! live brainstorming while watching your video -- i've coordinated a couple weddings with the polaroid film guest book and the couples always seem to be handed a less than half full guest book; often times with a polaroid that didn't develop properly because of the wrong setting (over exposed vs under exposed) and a simple "congratulations." with no name signed. It then switches from a cute coffee table book to something that feels unfinished. Guests often pass the table making a mental note that they'll come back and write something thoughtful, only to forgot in the excitement & socializing of the night. I think the disposable film would be a better way to go because the cameras have autoflash and you can use the rest of the unused film for family brunches the morning after, honeymoon, etc. Then you can have a separate photo album for all your disposables once they're developed :) Hope this helps, congrats again & good luck Aja!!

Love it Aja! Gorgeous aesthetic. ✨🌿 Keep the live band as your non-negotiable. It makes the biggest difference and truly adds soul to the day. Skimp on the champagne. One glass per guest on arrival is fine, and maybe another for speeches. But it gets everyone too drunk and no one likes it as much as they claim to and won’t notice! My sister had a stand like that with family who have passed away, as well as pictures of great memories with friends and family. Even a couple of baby picis of the bride and groom. It was lovely for everyone to see the other family’s picis, had a good crowd round it for ages with lots of smiling, nostalgia and made everyone feel part of their day. Great idea to skip on all the printouts! Skip the guest book too, most people didn’t sign my sisters and everyone brings their own cards anyway. And you’re a genius for no deciding no bridesmaids - you’ll save on the tacky dressing gowns, jewellery, and gifts! Nice one haha

We bought donuts from a local place for dessert and it was a hit - MUCH cheaper than having catered in deserts. we went without a cake because wedding cakes can be so expensive (just bc it's for a wedding). Maybe see if you can get a really simple cake from a local bakery or see if someone can bake one for you (like a super simple layered "naked" cake like in your photos). i will also say that specific arrangements for the ceremony and table runners can come with a fixed price versus have the florist place greenery/flowers into vases sporadically. also ditto that i helped a friend make arrangements for her wedding. we literally bought all the flowers and greenery in bulk and then did an arranging party two nights beforehand. i don't know too much about lighting, but my assumption is that string lights would be cheaper than bringing in bulbs or chandeliers.
