lets not forget just a few years back people were snubbing the mustang. now its the car everyone not only want in their garage but want to forever keep in their garage. Lets not forget the humble origins of its base model, and how in its most extreme it can hunt down and match the likes of the Porsche 911GT3RS. and remains a fully tractable daily driver. never underestimate Ford and never underestimate a Mustang. Their is a reason why its such a celebrated sports car, all you need to do is drive one, and remember its flaws are actually what gives it character and soul.

Thanks, Matt for addressing the fuel economy of this and other high-performance cars. That is what makes the G70/Stinger and CT5 non-starters IMO. For that level of performance, the fuel economy is simply unacceptable. I get it in this car or other V8 performance machines. For those of us who drive a lot, low MPG can certainly make a difference. In my wilder days, this would certainly be near the top of my list. Now, I've "mellowed" a bit.

I agree with getting the base GT 500 unless you want to track the car. It is a beast. I'd never come close to using its power. And even though I can afford the price of gasoline I really enjoy getting good mpg. The EcoBoost premium is the best choice for me. I have the good Mustang looks and the comfort of heated and cooled seats. I bought my ruby red Mustang in 2017 and really enjoy it. It's totally different from the GT 500 obviously. Do you think the cup 2 tires could be giving you the harder ride you speak of? There really is not a “base” but different optioned GT 500’s. One that has CFTP and one without so it isn’t a separate unit, just options. The seats (non recaro) are much better than my other car a 2019 Bullitt. The Bullitt seats smash down on sides whereas the non recaro 500 are a nicer foam or whatever. They will hold up better. Ford really must work on a seat that will last. I purchased a spare rim OEM for 500 so I can run the sticky tires and the major disappointment is the failure of Ford in handling pack to provide adjustable strut mounts. They now get installed at factory but not even supplied with non CFTP models. Ford said that they were a part of handling pack but never provided somewhat like they said WiFi was included in Bullitt. I wish you could ask Ford about lack of factory installed adjustable strut mounts. I don’t believe that would cause the stiff ride you speak of. I still think it’s the cup 2’s that seem to throw car around on regular roads due to grip. You really should ask ford to provide you a non CFTP. I noticed you had wing in street position too. One item is awesome is the non draining oil catch can a great item. And next year they will apparently have CFTP and a drag type. Hope this gives you some thoughts and I think you should do another review based on comments and after driving what you call the base.

Why complain about a "track car" being stiff? And wait - you said the Zl1-1le is a little cheaper ? Try about 50k cheaper. You can buy a Zl1-1le and a pre owned GT350R for the same price as the GT500 Track Pack. I'm also glad Ford and Chevy still offers a bonafide purpose built car track car. Please stop complaining about a track car that doesn't drive like a Camry.
@MattMaranMotoring4 жыл бұрын
I don't know where you're buying a brand new ZL1 1LE for 42 grand lol. They're 73k before options, this is 92k with just the track pack. Yes there's dealer markups but if you're willing to travel you can find a dealership that isn't greedy. I'm not expecting it to ride like a Rolls-Royce, but I would hope that MagneRide would have a little more adjustability like the adaptive dampers in the Civic Type R do for half the price.
@backnu4 жыл бұрын
Matt Maran Motoring to be honest , the few KZbin guys that have the GT500 with track package purchased theirs for like 110-120. The average Zl1 1le could be had for 70k. A pre-owned GT350 can be purchased all day for mid to low 40’s. Am I wrong ?

Matt Maran Motoring honestly, it’s a fair price. Speed Phenom and his window sticker was 105k. That’s 35k more than a Zl1 1le. So my take is, with a 5k markup, you can get a used GT350 for 40k and a Zl1 1le for 70k. Point being - it’s a lot more expensive than a Zl1-1le by a long shot. I’m not trying to take anything from the GT500 - but it’s really pricey for suspension tuning and carbon fiber wheels.

Its amazing how a Jag F-Type R DESTROYS the GT-500 in a drag race, plus the Jag has 500% higher quality and is maybe 1000x louder (at least +30 dbA at 142 vs 110, which is 1000x). Plus the F-Type V8 R gets over 30 mpg hwy. I don't see the value. Ok, its got a different exhaust, on the margin thats $50 more, if it even costs more. The DCT might cost Ford another $150 over the cost of the stock transmission. A supercharger might cost Ford $300. The seat delete saves $400. With labor, the GT-500 package should be a $2000 option including a premium for more in-warranty maintenance. And the base Mustang should be way under $30K. Speaking of warranties, it should come with AT LEAST 5Y/60K bumper to bumper to be competitive in 2020, preferrably 10Y/100K. This isn't 1960.
