Aquarium plants are fun to use for alien flora, and most come pre-painted, so that's half the battle won to start with. I use craft store XPS balls for many floating flora projects, using aquarium plastic vines to hide the clear plastic rod used to help base them. Love these videos, as they are inspiring and fun. You can use mixed herbs and even dried tea leaves to add a little extra detail to your flora pieces :-)
