Thank you for sharing, as always. Always so insightful and personal. Thanks for being vulnerable. Think the worst thing I’ve probably experienced is extremely bad memory. I think maybe some of the naturally ‘down-times’ could’ve impacted that(my brain) along the way. But some of the meds, i rate, attribute to slightly more information-retention issues. You, in a way, become more selective on what’s materially important to retain and recollect at a later stage, whereas more menial/smaller things your brain/memory simply discards and skips over. Can get a bit embarrassing when your mates ask how your weekend was and you literally draw a blank. Zero recollection. Bit scary at times. But we survive. Onward and upward. Glad you’re looking alive and well ✔️🖤. Have a rad rest of the weekend and week ahead.

I wish science knew more about cognitive side effects of medication because I hear plenty of stories about people not having good concentration/memory etc... After starting meds. I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that science as a whole still doesn't know how psych meds help, just that they do. Thanks so much for the comment and for sharing!

Yea it would be nice if these meds helped to heal the brain but unfortunately schizophrenia doesn't just go away and people have to stay on these meds or they can't function.

Those are some really interesting and unusual side effects! Thank you so much for going into detail about them and giving people an idea of what might happen with these meds. My weirdest one happened about 10 years ago when I tried switching the medication I was taking to treat dangerously heavy periods. The new med was intended to reduce the number of periods from monthly to every 3 months... which it accomplished with a slightly higher dose of estrogen. And it gave me the WORST mood swings of my life. I was constantly stressed, irritable, and frustrated until I caved in and switched back to my old medication. In hindsight, it's obvious now why having more estrogen in my system would do that to me. But at the time, I was still several years away from figuring out I was trans, and that the hormone I actually needed was testosterone. XD Oh well, live and learn!

That is such a weird side effect! And it sounds awful. Mood swings are the devil, so I'm glad you found another med that works for you and doesn't cause that pesky side effect! If I got one that gave me more intense mood swings I'd switch too 😂. thanks!

@@SchizoKitzo I don't think this is not so much unusual, I got to face that too. It messes up your memory in such a horrible way, as Ive read here, long term memory (what's about you'r weekend? And you just can't recall, but much more with short term memory). How many times I was speaking and in middle of conversation forget what we where talking about or the end of my sentence then forgetting the topic as I'm searching what was the end of the sentence haha I laugh about myself, as you said it, you feel like really overmedicated and turned to zombie..freaking at times yes, or I get up to pick something, then once up, forget why I first wanted to do. So sometimes I picked a random stuff haha. It's not a nice drug, it helped me very quickly against (hypo)mania that's true, I should have stopped when my "high mood" was under control, so for one week it helped, then came de side effects...5 months on it, now down to 5 mg, I mean before quitting, some days ago; and I feel really bad, with kind of hallucinations, and closed eyes visuals..that's not so much disturbing for me but could be for others, but the OEV, with theses hallucinations, it's scrary also, I felt like loosing my mind for good, and I have previous experience while quitting Quetiapine (was at 600 mg then 400 mg long long long time), first attempt cold turkey I had crazy derealisation, also OEV (open eyes visuals); I had to tapper form it, and it went ok. I should not stay on it more than a week or two. The sides effects came with time, ans went just worse, now I'm depressive, cold turkey for Olanzapine, had high doses at times, remember was on 15 mg directly I didn't realized this was a hgh dose, as they are so small, there are 96 in the box.. and it did little to nothing really bad the firsts days. Now I regret, the doc wanted me on it for some time but I always said no. Now I regret.

I take migraine meds. My daily meds don't have any obvious side effects but my "emergency" meds that I take if the migraines are bad do. The worst was my first medication. It didn't actually stop the pain of my migraine but it disassociated me from it so I didn't care any more. I wasn't warned things like "don't drive on this medicine" so I drove to work one day on it. Being totally disassociated from caring and driving a car is not advised. It's amazing that I didn't get into a wreck in Atlanta. People would do things like cut me off suddenly and it was all I could do to care enough to hit the breaks rather than just let them hit me. When I finally came down off the medication later that day I was terrified. I never took it again and called my doctor and all but screamed at him about the side effect. His response "Oh it effects some people like that just don't drive or do anything dangerous after taking it ". They couldn't have said this upfront???

I wish medications came with warnings of those kinds of side effects, and I too wish doctors warned you about things like that. Driving on that med sounds really scary and I'm glad you got through it! Just sucks you had to figure it out THAT way. Thanks for the comment and for sharing!

On zyprexa the more caffeine you ingest the sleepier you get like the caffeine does not hype you up on Seroquel that doesn't happen you can drink coffee and it'll kickstart your day. I'm giving up drinking excessive amounts of caffeine if it's still going to put me to sleep no matter what. A triple espresso in the morning is good enough

I used fluoxetine for like 3 months and became hyperactive, restless. Later I heard this can happen if you have autism. That your body overreacts when going on meds. I was diagnosed with asd maybe a few years later.

Actually my daily meds do have one side effect they depress my blood pressure. This was never a problem until I lost 100 lbs over two years and at no point did the doctor change my dosage. I knew I was dizzy and occasionally when I stood suddenly I would "grey out" temporarily but I didn't realize this was my blood pressure being lowered by my medicine until I went to give blood at Red Cross and the nurse there almost went into a panic attack when she did my vital statistics. They made me sit there and call my doctor about it. So we got to play with the dose for the next six months. 🤣

Oh that sounds like a crazy six months!!! I'm glad youre okay now. One of my Zyprexa side effects is a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing (orthostatic hypotension) and I have to get up really slowly as an adult. Really fun when I'm picking up trash off the floor! Again, glad youre okay now!

I had the same size effect when I was on invega. I was convinced that I had schizoaffective disorder until I was having headaches and seizures before I ever started my treatment. I went to a neurologist for a second opinion. Turns out that I actually had autism and generalized anxiety disorder. I was taken off all my meds and my neurologist told me that all antipsychotics caused the brain to shrink. My neurologist saved my life and a second opinion never hurts. Because some psychiatrists like to up the medicine just to bill the insurance. I eventually sued my psychiatrist for malpractice.

@SchizoKitzo

So my experience is different than yours, so remember that, and I am not trained to give medical advice etc, and this is not medical advice. So, for me… literally the very first dose (pretty sure it was 5mg?) caused it, and when I went up to 20 max the same thing happened. Since then, any adjustments I’ve had (including restarting it from scratch) didn’t have the speech issues, which I found interesting. Hope this helps!

Jesus street drugs are safer than this junk. I had a horrible experience with this medication that was supposed to be given for panic disorder, I took it for maybe 4 days and it was just absolutely terrible. The nightmares I had It's reflected on my mood for the entire day and I had no dreams it was pure nightmares that actually still I have PTSD from those nightmares😢
