Wow. The Algorithm has only just now sent this my way. Having recently replaced a whole bunch of bookcases in our shop, I have a very fresh appreciation for how hefty such a move is - especially when you have to keep everything in order. Take care - as it is all too easy to injure yourself when your mind and your muscles are fatigued. Best wishes for the new regime - I have every confidence in you, and I will try to remember to send more people who need to sell books in your direction. There is no shortage of books in this town, and we are offered far more than we can cope with every week. Very sensible of you to have a solid awareness of how important it is to look after Mission Control - your mental health. Such a solid foundation is the keystone to everything. Brava. Wishing you all the best through the difficult times ahead. If you need to talk, hopefully you know where to find us.

A transport company might come and drop off a dozen pallets or so and you can load them up? They have mobile pallet lifters to make this stuff easy and even though it will cost a little bit, I think it will save you a heap of work, pain and hassle.

If you don't have one getting a 2 wheeled hand truck can help move stacks of books. That includes after the move when unloading your car. All of my best shelving is heavy-duty and on wheels. I can stack them if I want to take up less space like a library system. You can do this!!

Moving all those books will be a huge task. As someone who owns a junk removal business this may help. I found the perfect box is one with handles and the size of 16x12x12. The reason is you dont want to make the boxes too heavy and the weight for each box will be 20-30 pounds each (or less if you like) 4,500 books you are looking at 225 boxes. The handles will be much easier to handle because you dont have to reach and lift from the bottom. Will save your back for sure! Lowes Home Improvement is a good place to buy if they have any near you. Cant wait to see the video

Could you wrap around each shelf in the same plastic wrap you use for your book bundles, leaving the books on them and using furniture dollie’s to put them in a storage pod for a single transport? Just trying to think of something easier than taking them all off the shelves and boxing them up.

Hi Mel. Ive been thinking about your move. You said that you will be needing a lot more shelf units. My suggestion is buy a few more new units and take them to the warehouse and assemble them, put them in place before you take any boxes there. Then as you pack boxes you have empty shelves to put them onto straight away. Then as you say RINSE AND REPEAT with the emptied shelves. Take the emptied ones before any more boxes. It may take a bit longer but might be less stressful. Good luck whatever you decide.xx

I've had this problem in my life and it's not easy but it is not insurrmountable. I broke up with my partner, the basement was full full full of my ebay business. The locks were changed on the house before I was finished moving out. Soooo, my partner moved my items out bit by bit into the garage, and day by day I made multiple trips in -30 winter weather to move my items. In between, I had moved some to a storage, and so had to move them too, and had stayed at friends, so had to move that stuff too. It was a literal nightmare, no help. Then, when I got to my new rental, the previous tenants had not paid the heating bill, so hydro would not turn on the heat until that was settled by a fly by night landlord I was dealing with. He set me up with a fridge full of mold and the house was infested with fleas and mice which I successfully remedied. This after living for a decade and a half with my partner in a respectible middle class home. Not trying to scare you, just want you to know NOTHING will be as bad as that, and I if I could get through it, so can you. I'm living comfortably again, moved out to BC from Ontario out of all this trouble, and now live in a temperate climate making life all the sweeter. Yes, I still sell on eBay. It makes you stronger and opens doors you never knew existed.

@@backfromburnout PLEASE don't be lifting heavy boxes of books! You need to be healthy and if you blow out your back you'll have to hire people to run your business. Hiring a couple of strong guys to move your stuff while you play director, will allow you to keep your body healthy. This is so important, Mel, and when you're in constant back pain, there'll be plenty of brain fog, and not doing what you should be doing for days, weeks and months. For me, I have 8 bulging discs and I have been in pain every single day for 18 months. Every neurologist's appointment is a 3 month wait. Every MRI they want is a 3 month wait. Every post-MRI neurologist appointment is a 3 month wait!!! In the meantime, every test you take comes back with an incidental finding that you need another MRI on and another 3 month wait. Pay someone to move the damn books, girl!! I would love to be able to walk TEN steps without pain, and 10K steps sounds like the impossible dream. Love you, Mel. Great video. When you go on your walk, listen to a motivational speaker you like. 😘😘😘

Having just moved my inventory twice in the last year.....sell it, sell it, sell it. Better to discount and pack it and send it to someone than move it (except a rarer item you want to get the max money for). It is far easier to move digits in a bank account than heavy books.

When I went full-time, I rented an apartment so that I knew it wouldn't be sold out from under me. That peace of mind is invaluable, and working from home is very cost-effective, especially when you can deduct a portion of rent as a business expense. If you've found a good storage solution, then that can be good. Try to keep expenses as low as possible. Hire some high school kids to move your books!

Consider colored tape. You can put tape on shelves in your new space. Then put the same color on your current shelves. Finally, you'll put that color tape on the moving box. For example, say you have 1 shelf of books for origami and other paper arts and crafts. You decide you want your photography books and cookbooks to be near. You mark those sections of your shed shelf with one piece of yellow tape. The moving boxes will also have one piece of yellow tape on top. You will mark the new space in your warehouse with yellow tape. The brain can only process so many words. If your movers know to position the boxes in the new space by color it will make unpacking easier for you. Its all about the unpacking. There are only so many colors so you can just use 2 pieces and 3 pieces of a color to differentiate etc. But you'll have at least 6 colors to start with. And of course you'll write notes on the boxes. But using color allows your helpers to carry boxes and deliver to the space near where they will live. Consider moving your supplies in suitcases. For the visual help. A sea of boxes doesn't have to be overwhelming. You're organized now. Just map it out. Draw a map on giant paper or foam core. You call it something else in Australia. I'm the queen of moving myself but I was a professional organizer too so I've seen a lot. Others can help you move boxes. But only you and you alone can open the boxes and place the books in their new homes. You'll have to put your store on vacation for a few days. I wish I could be there to help you! And buy a professional belt that movers wear. They fasten with velcro. I love mine.

Mel, I recommend getting a bunch of smaller boxes. That way you never overload and the weight is manageable. Also, does Australia have estate sales? I go to the end of the sales and make an offer for the remainder of the books left over in the house. Usually between 200 to 1000 books. Great way to get a lot of inventory for cheap. And the estate is happy to get rid of the books.

That paralysis that you speak to is your body-mind's way of conserving energy because the stress level is too high when feeling overwhelmed & then one lacks the capacity to sustain the energy or maintain the endurance. It's actually a healthy response so don't beat yourself up about it. Think of it as chronic fatigue for the mind similar to physical chronic fatigue, and then pace yourself & do the things that fuel YOU first just like a nice walk as you mention, so you have enough gas in the tank to do the grunt work of reselling. It could also be a time to evaluate your life & ask yourself is this REALLY what you want to do? I know you say you struggle with doing the videos, but I think you're SO, SO incredibly likable that you could actually make good $$ from your YT videos. I would also add a LinkTree or something where folks can send you cash apps or something else if they'd like to, though I'm not sure how that works internationally-wise. Also, have NO shame in setting up anything like this where your YT followers can help $$ if they're able. I see a lot of my various favorite YT folks in/out of reselling doing this & it's helped them to get set up or through challenging times.

Depending on the location it might make sense to open a physical store that way you can have the shelf space and sell to local customers as well.

It’s just very expensive to lease space like that where I live and it would tie me to shop opening hours.

Why don’t you organize your shelf’s by genre? You could make a shelf or a couple shelf’s dedicated to genres (fantasy, romance, Cookbooks, etc) and then dedicate a shelf to bundles. You can still number shelves. It would look like romance 3. I think that would make finding books easier. In terms of new inventory I would make a separate area just for unlisted books. I would organize it the same way I would organize the listed books.

A suggestion for you regarding your KZbin videos production goals.... I have seen many 'shorts' in my 'favorites feed' from many different creators. Perhaps a way to meet your posting goals would be to occasionally put these out instead of taking the time to produce all 15-minute videos. Good luck!

Mel I’m suggesting that to make it easier for you, Shrinkwrap the entire Shelf tightly keeping the books inside. Using a dolly or pallet jack to move each unit into a moving van without having to box up all your books. I’ve done a similar move that way and boy did it help. Let me know if you think it’s a good idea!

Yep. Not everyone reacts in that way but I know I certainly do. Thats why I also like having a niche store because it helps me focus and not become as squirrel brained lol.

Excited for your journey. You should not worry about us so much on the YT just post as you can. Balancing your life should be the priority.

Hi Mel! I think l you're looking at this exactly the way you should. Exciting! Almost like a new startup, except you've already got a customer base. If you need help, let me know and send me an airline ticket. Lol! I'm anxious to see how your transition and how well you meet your goals. By the way, I love you Mel! By the way are you gonna put your business on vacation during your move? I think I would. That will cut down on some distractions. I know you'll come out on solid ground. Rick
