Here is my question and a struggle I have always had with Dave when it comes to renting vs home ownership. Yes home ownership can be more expensive with repairs and such, that I understand however the rates for renting right now (in our area at least) are more than 1000 more per month than what my mortgage is and we only purchased a couple months ago.... That extra 1000 a month could go to debt and at least from my perspective I would see buying a home way more wise in that case.

Hilariously, by the end of the call Dave actually - accidentally - paid some attention and listened to what the guy was trying to tell him. Which eventually led Dave to give an advice that actually helped. But for half of this conversation Dave had already made up his mind that the wife is a princess who wants to buy a house (which the guy never said), and was shouting them down about that . Then, accidentally! - he heard that the wifey likes the Ramsey thing, and the whole world turned upside down. So we can only wish Dave many more happy accidents in which he actually gives the interlocutor the time to actually explain his situation, and in which Dave does not jumps to conclusions after 30 seconds with no information received.

My wife hated where we lived after she married me. My house was in the wrong place. Nice house, wrong area. So I told her to find a house and buy it. So for the past 17 years, she has been paying the mortgage which she qualified for with her own salary. If you don't like the house, go and buy another one. 17 years later she wants to move 160 miles north of here, so we are moving to a new house that she liked. The best part is that when we move, we will eliminate the mortgage by moving to the new location. So it will be a bonus.
