Those look like some great books. I love an older book set in the 1970s or 1980s. Silent Night was such a good book. Reva is so mean, but I loved it! It was so nostalgic and a great read for this time of year.
@Night_Nerves11 күн бұрын
Thank you!! And I totally agree -- even when a book set in the 70s or 80s isn't in your face about its time period, it has a certain vibe to it that I love. I'm super stoked to read Silent Night!

Had no idea Dean Koontz wrote under different names! I grew up reading sooo many of his paperbacks. I also am adding Dan Simmons' books to my TBR. I've never heard of him but I like the cover of A Winter Haunting! Also BE STILL MY HEART I loved Silent Night when I was younger! I forgot that the super chillers were longer! Just seeing the cover takes me back. Love it!
@Night_Nerves14 күн бұрын
Yes! Koontz loved his pen names. Summer of Night might be the best place to start with Dan Simmons. It's fairly well liked and there might be some continuity to the series. I'm pretty stoked to read Silent Night! Just looking at the cover takes me back

Some great stuff here! I love Dean Koontz but I haven’t heard a ton about Icebound. I do know that it isn’t really horror, but has its scary moments. A different kind of scary though… one that involves natural disasters. Also Heck Yeah on some more RL Stine!! Silent Night is one of Stines favorite books (that he wrote). He told me this when I met him!
@Night_Nerves8 күн бұрын
Thanks Zach! I'm actually reading Icebound right now. It started off with some great nature horror but it's definitely pivoting towards adventure. It's losing me a bit. And yes--I can't stop reading RL Stine! That's awesome that you got to meet the legend and he said it's his favorite of his books! I can't wait to get to Silent Night. Hope you have a great reading month!

One year I'm planning to do a double feature, reading A Winter Haunting by Simmons and Black House by Straub and King back to back.
@pointytoebro9 күн бұрын
Man, you are in for a treat with Maynard's House. I just read it a week ago to kick off my own winter horror reading and I loved it. It definitely fits within the "quiet horror" genre popularized by Grant. Other winter horror books on the TBR shelf: Moonchild by Kenneth McKenney Ghost Story by Peter Straub The Shining by King Communion by Whitley Strieber Dead White by Alan Ryan The Island by T.M. Wright Icefire by Richard C. Wilson We'll see how many of those I get to this year, but hopefully I can check out a good chunk of them :)
@Night_Nerves9 күн бұрын
I'm so pumped for Maynard's House! That's a solid winter TBR. I hope you get to read through a bunch of them and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

@Night_Nerves If you like The VVitch, John Carpenter's The Fog, and the 80 film called 'House' you'll probably like Maynard's House

@ love the vintage horror reminds me of what I read back in the day, we had a used book store close to home that me and my Mother would walk to and come home with a bag full of books each back in The late 80s !
@Night_Nerves15 күн бұрын
@@Scott-sca I was born in the 90s but many of these are the books of my youth as well! I rarely had enough money to shop at B&N, Borders, or Walden Books, so I scavenged horror novels in used bookshops and thrift stores. Many of the books were 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 2000s horror novels

Great video. You really pick some good stuff I've never heard of. You and another book person have been going through R.L Stine and I've been wondering if at least his fear street stuff is worth reading through. I also suggest Devolution by Max Brookes. Winter survival horror with some cool creatures. It's a quick and exciting read. I couldn't put it down.
@Night_Nerves13 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, I really enjoy reading and re-reading the Fear Street books. They make me feel like a kid again. I read it some years ago but I remember enjoying Devolution!

A good horror read that feels seasonal because of the wintery atmosphere and characters/location associated is “The Only Good Indians” by Stephan Graham Jones. If you haven’t read it I highly recommend giving it a try!
@Night_Nerves12 күн бұрын
I really enjoyed The Only Good Indians! It dragged in parts for me and I thought the ending could've been more satisfying, but overall I really dug it!
@SamNickJo12 күн бұрын
@ I do agree with the ending not being as explosive as I thought it’d be. The sauna portion of the book and the day after was by far my favorite part!
