I think I have more than 50% of this stuff. Plus my hiking boots live in my car too as well as lanterns & a powerful torch. I was out Sunday night at a party when the rapid snow came in. The roads were covered in thick snow, so I changed out of my dress & in to my warm clothes & boots. I didn't get stuck, however loads of people around me did and I even used my crowbar to help dig someone else's car out (They were blocking my route so I had no choice 😅).

@Richie Reports UK that's right, I know several routes but they were all the same situation. It took me 2.5 hours to do what is normally a 15-20 minute drive because I was being held up by other people being stuck and blocking the routes.

De icer also works well on frozen car locks but that won't help you if the only can you have is locked in the car (that you can't get into because the locks are frozen) so keep an extra can in the house.

I have most of these too. I am a female 110 Landrover Defender owner and I have been off road. So I am pretty rare. But I am not mechanically abled. I also have a good hammer. Used to own a Vauxhall cavalier and it needed a good hammering to get the alternator started. A metal hanger. Used once to get my car keys after they were dropped down a drain. By hubby. Also we had to use a hanger to keep a split pipe open, with gaffa tape around the outside. Couldn't call RAC and couldn't call friends as we were on holiday in Wales. The split air pipe was collapsing inside until we used the metal hanger like a stent in an artery. Needed pliers too. Then we got a replacement in Shropshire. Toilet. My DDs when they were young hated showing bare derrier and refused to go kerbside au naturale. So we used a fold up potty with bags, till they became teenagers. Then I made a sit on loo that lives under the middle seats. It used to be a Robertson mince pie mixture in a watertight plastic container. Around 9 inch diameter and 4" tall. I made a lidded wooden box for it, out of 1" waterproof ply. No chemicals needed, just bleach and sponge for cleaning. Plastic bags, A4 sized, Ziploc. Loads of uses-sick kid, burnt hand. Sucking wound of punctured lung-not personally needed but hubby was a trained first aider. Waterproof clear tape. Exhaust pipe tape for damaged exhaust pipe. We had pillows that were also toys that clipped to the seat belts for DDs to sleep. I could go on a lot more. I even designed a system that was a kitchen-with a sink-and it was also a king size bed. It stored enough food for 2 weeks for 4 adults. I live in Iceland now and the tyres have to have spikes from Halloween by law. You can't store water overnighthere, so you have to remember to take some every trip.

Im only a short journey to work every day so i carry very little, but longer journeys i tailor my kit. Priority for me is First aid kit with added pain killers/antihistamines/aspirin, eye wash, burn gel, etc. (In case of accidents at work mainly, work does provide but my kit is better) Jump leads, tyre inflator, spare wheel, small trolley jack, breaker bar with correct size socket for wheel bolts/nuts, 17 & 19mm in my case for both vehicles. A 1L bottle of engine oil might be a good idea to add to your kit just in case & doesn’t take up much space. Good video Funky, thanks for posting.

I like that rooftop strobe light 😉👍🏼 I have a similar "jump start" unit that looks a little more squat than yours. Totally agree, a battery life saver until you can get a new battery, if needed. I'm trying to educate one of my children who now drives to have life saving items in the car. It is like banging your head against the wall. Nothing in the boot of the motor, but they don't like having the boot untidy... don't call me out then at 0300hrs to help you. Even though I would go 🙄

If you want some killer jump leads, get your hands on some welding cable. Then take your croc clips from your current cables and crimp them onto the welding cable. I've tried jumping vehicles on standard cables even some of the biggest cables you can buy to no luck. But welding cable is super nice and think and you'll get more current through than, ill send you a picture when I can of the cable I've got

got a kit sorted out for myself and my dad going to and from work on nightshift, kit is similar but main difference is i have a backup canteen pouch ontop of the gas cooker i have that acts as a mini mess kit as it has a firedragon stove, fuel and a few options for lighting/starting fires and water purification, i also have comms in terms of some radios (baofengs) which also picks up commercial FM, along with warmer clothes im keeping my decent walking boots in the car also with some MK2 gaiters and a few extra pairs of socks, i also keep a 2qt canteen half full (has a fleece lined pouch so it hasnt fozen apart from the exposed cap but best to be safe) and i always keep a 1L canteen on me in work so i just make sure thats full before i leave, i already take a power bank to work along with a IFAK, better be safe than sorry, currently typing this up in -8C with gloves on lmao, hope all is well lad

Brilliant mate. Basic and succinct. You are right on the jump leads or jumper cables as we call them over here. I assisted someone once and their set was thin as, casing actually caught fire when we tried to start them up, luckily I had leather glove on so I could wildly grab the cables and pull them off the cars.

Some good ideas there. Torch I've forgotten. BuT I'd also add a plastic shopping bag (place to put sodden clothes, rubbish etc) so many uses. Loads of wet wipes and tissue paper, and a small bottle of talc (Anything to do with cars always makes your hands dirty). Yes you heard right. Talc gets rid of sand on feet, drys wet feet before putting clean dry socks on. I know this is winter we're talking about but I always have a small bottle of it in the car. Something to pee in too. Can you tell I have small kids?
@wmluna381
@wmluna381 Жыл бұрын
They always seem to want to pee at the most inopportune times, I swear. Gardening water retention pellets for soil (same or similar to what's in diapers, vomit bags, pet wee wee pads, bucket camp poop additives, and such) or vermiculite for absorption in a quart or gallon size brand name zip loc freezer bags. Not a time to use the cheapie and non-freezer storage bag. Good in case you're all trapped in the car for whatever reason. These options are lighter than cat litter, but that can work, too. I forget the amount to throw in, but for an adult, enough to handle the output of 8-12 oz of liquid. I drank a lot of water one day, waited until the last minute to pee, and measured. Science and all. 😂 I topped out at 8 oz, but others may have bigger bladders. Or you can buy overnight diapers (kid or adult) to layer at the bottom of a sturdy trash compactor (smaller and thicker mils) or Glad Flex bag. You can also use a bed pan commode, diaper liner, or aforementioned puppy pads. For some reason, here in the U.S. thrift stores seem to get caches of adult diapers donated to them. I've seen them at different locations everywhere so be on the look out.

I'd whack a Artic candle or a few tea light candles in your kit mate with something to keep them in ( I suppose your cooking pot would do, just for safety reasons) just incase you have to stay in your vehicle in snow or freezing conditions. Just leave a small gap with a window open say a couple of cms for ventilation. Will keep the inside of your vehicle a little warmer and will supplement running your engine to keep the heater going. Plus I'd also carry a few different coloured chem lights. For inside the vehicle and also to mark your position to emergency or rescue services. ( Just incase that strobe light of yours was to fail or your battery to die. Maybe a pack of cards or top trumps to past the time too. Great vid funky, hope you and the family have a lovely safe Christmas ATB Rob

Funky, your video is by far one of the best and comprehensive winter vehicle kits out there. And having seen about 2 dozen or so, you've covered everything. Only items I would add is I carry a can of mixed nuts, turkey jerky, and dehydrated fruit. I carry a simple tire patch kit, hand tire pressure gauge, boys axe, candles and small lantern, toilet paper and hand wipes, night watch cap, extra wool socks. In the Toyota highlander, I have an inflatable mattress and at least 2 twin sized wool blankets. In the Toyota tundra, I carry a propane stove and lantern, as well as 4 gelled fuel stoves and aI small kerosene lantern/fuel. Each vehicle has a tool kit. Some sort of shovel, fence pliers and bolt cutters. In winter, both carry tire chains/repair kit. Under the hood of the engine, I have magnetic base 12 volt tractor lights and battery connections, spare engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze, serpentine belt, and extra fuses and fuse holders. Inside the vehicle is an atlas and state maps for roughly 1000 mike circumference from my home. An electrical repair kit with 3 colors of 10 gauge x 25 feet, about 30 feet of 2 color 14 gauge wire and about 100 connectors of all types plus crimper, and an assortment of light bulbs. The tundra carries a 100 watt solar panel, charge controller, 12 volt deep cycle battery and 12 volt d.c. to 120 volt a.c. 1000 watt inverter. The highlander only is equipped with a 400 watt inverter.

Great job, I need to put more bits in my car, it was called the Tardis by the kids. Don't forget to put spare socks, warm ones under the front seat I've a thick pair, under the passenger seat we have more, the de-icer and other bits in the back. I've a woollen blanket on the back seat with vet bed. My bug out bag in the back too. But I do need more stuff as the winter isn't going to be good, and damn sure I don't want to be caught out or turn my car into my grave.

Hi Funky, great vid mate, I would add a litter of Screen wash concentrate,, a couple of litters of oil and 5 litters of fuel.. I live in the Highlands of Scotland and getting stuck is a distinct possibility. even if you don't need these items its amazing that someone else who is stuck in another vehicle near you usually does because they don't prepare for the road conditions. a good set of winter tyres make a big difference also.

Pretty much the same setup here although I carry many more tools and spare parts. Being a mechanic it's something I always have onboard any vehicle I own. I would recommend having some simple spare parts to anybody and even if they're not mechanically minded as there is often someone around who is. Simple spares can be used to help others too. Great work Funky bringing this to people's attention as many, including preppers forget or overlook this here in the UK especially.

Living in snow country, one thing I learned is not to cheap out on a tire air inflator unit. The fill rate matters when you're waiting and watching for it to get to the right PSI. Even better, spring for one with an auto shut off feature that allows you to preset the PSI. Plus, get an appropriately sized one for bigger vehicles like SUVs + pickups. No one taught me squat about cars and I very much had to learn things the hard way.

You need something to get you home. It's no good if you cannot drive and get out if you are snowed in like if you was on the M25. Not a lot of people know this but you need SNOW SOCKS for your tyres so that you can drive in the snow. They are better than snow chains. I have used these and you can get them from ebay for £20.00. They go around your tyres and are easy to put on and I have climbed hills leaving all the 4 x 4 Range rovers behind me. Get SNOW SOCKS they will get you home!!

One other thing to add with regards gloves, have a look at the OX Thermal lined Latex work glove..They are about £10 delivered. They are similar to the normal latex glove, but they are waterproof all over, plus they have a micro fleece type lining for warmth. They are often used by the folks who work in industrial cold stores...UCI Koolgrip Arctic Thermal Waterproof gloves are similar and a bit warmer if anything...I have used both sorts, and they are both excellent and are great buys for a tenner or less...

Where do you travel to justify this? It’s insane. You’re in the UK not the artic.

If people don't want to spring the cash for one of those Silky saws, a 30" or 36" bow saw is nearly as good, and not too difficult to store under the floor of the boot or even just strapped to the rear of the back seats. If you remove the blade, and put back in with the blade facing towards the frame, it's less likely to snag or damage other items....With regards the various aerosols, if you put them inside of a thick sock, its stops that maddening chinking as they roll about....Plus you have spare socks if you need them!😁
