This show was instantly my favorite anime of all time. Every little detail has a payoff eventually. The pacing is also magical, as you'll see. The composer for this anime is Evan Call, one of my favourites... I'm happy for you about the journey you're getting into. Fullmetal Alchemist was at the top of the MyAnimeList chart for a long time, but recently, Frieren took over. Interestingly, both are manga created by female authors, hence the character storytelling is superb and better than most shows/manga (imo). The names of the people and places in this show are all German words that more or less resemble the characters traits. Knowing them is a lot of added value because of symbolism. Frieren (Mage) - (to feel) cold/freezing Heiter (Priest) - bright/cheerful Eisen (Dwarf) - iron Himmel (Hero) - sky/heaven -> pay attention to the times they show the sky Fern (the girl with Heiter) - distant or far Ewig (the Sage) - eternal Some thoughts and details about the first episode: Frieren's plot is really a life lesson. She has literally all the time in the world so she procrastinates A LOT and before she knows it, time passes and friends are gone. We all have loved ones we know we should check on more often, relationships we'd like to nurture more but we believe there is no urgency, there is always tomorrow but life won't just pause and put your friends and family on ice until you're ready to spend more time with them. This is Frieren's journey of self-redemption after she realized, with great deal of regret, that she casually blew away 50 years that she could have connected with her friends and Himmel. That's why you saw the year count "after Himmel's death", because that's day zero of her starting to be a more appreciative person, as you can already tell by her actions at the end of episode 1. The meteor is like Himmel with his human life span. It burns out so quickly but while it lasts, once every 50 years, it's so brilliant and beautiful. Like a human lifetime from Frieren's perspective. Can't wait for the other episodes. Editing was top notch, keep it up!

@@Nac_Reacts Some correction to the above comment just to clear up some mis-information: Yamada Kanehito, Frieren's author, isn't confirmed as female. Infact, most interviews done with them have the interviewer using male pronouns for the author. The rumor that the author is female comes from the fact that when you google their name, the top result is a woman's picture. That is not a picture of the author, however. The *artist* for Frieren is, however, confirmed to be a woman. Abe Tsukasa is indeed female. EDIT: After some googling, I can't actually find concrete evidence that Abe Tsukasa is a woman either. Only posts from random internet users claiming it to be so with no sources. So there's no actual real evidence for either of their genders as far as I can tell. Not that it should matter since the series is great regardless of what is in-between their legs lol
