White cotton thread for floss. I keep my hair short, so I don’t need to use so much to get it clean. Dish soap, me, sinks, etc… good to clean a lot of things. So I buy fewer bottles of different products. Any hand soap containers get refilled. I love the foaming ones, one fourth dish soap, great on the kitchen too. No make up, no hair products. Reusable toilet paper, they have their own laundry basket though

I use and absolutely love my leaf razor, my reusable menstrual underwear/pads and cup, the quip floss is a staple in my car, reusable makeup pads and a diy unscented castile soap/jojoba oil/water makeup remover and body soap. I still use conventional toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, and conditioner and lotion and toilet paper...looking forward to slowly making the switch once my budget allows

some of the best swaps for sure! I love that mindset :)

The reusable floss pic with compostable floss is tempting me a lot. I currently use bamboo interdental brushes which are still a bit wasteful so I think I'm going to make the switch. My favourite bathroom swap was toothpaste tabs which I found out about on your channel. For a bit of follow-up on Simple Living Eco's genuinely plastic-free laundry strips, I've now used them and they cleaned well, left no residue and have a very gentle but nice scent. The whole greenwashing PVA laundry strips saga has left me very distrustful, but it seems that these are the genuine article and work well.

I'm the same way about hair ties! I pick them up and throw them in a mesh laundry bag in the laundry, then it's clean and good to use!For product reviews, I see a lot of items from a brand called 9 Elements: dish soap, laundry soap, bathroom cleaner, etc. They claim to be all natural, but I can't tell if they are greenwashing.

too easy to get free hair ties hahaha. I'll look into them!

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist cool, I’m definitely trying to consider doing zero waste food in the RV. Right now, we have a compost pickup service at our house so I just take a compost bin from there to compost in the RV on road trips but that won’t work if we go full time, although we are considering investing in a Lomi if we do that. If I think of any more specific questions, I can let you know!

I don't wear make up, I don't shave and I'm post menopausal so that cuts out a lot of things. I use an electric toothbrush (recommended by my dentist) and Dentabs. I buy recyclable toothbrush heads and do recycle them. I use a refillable deodorant, shampoo bars, soap bars and I get my shower gel refilled at my local zero waste shop. I use bamboo toilet paper. I bought recycled toilet paper for years but I find bamboo is stronger. I am finding it hard to buy the supplements I take in reusable/recyclable packaging. Very frustrating. I can recycle the blister packs from my prescribed medications though.
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist Жыл бұрын
Woah does the company take the recyclable toothbrush heads back? Or does your municipality accept them? Where do you recycle blister packs?
@anniehosking2408 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist I'm in the UK. The company takes the toothbrush heads back. There is a return envelope included in the pack of 4 brush heads. The chain store Superdrug runs the blister pack recycling scheme (took over from Terracycle). They have collection bins in any of their shops that has a pharmacy. There is one in my nearest town.
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist Жыл бұрын
@@anniehosking2408 that is amazing that they do that and so cool you have accessible recycling for other odds and ends :)
@bmarieluvstheearth38792 ай бұрын
Fortunately our township recycles terracycle containers directly into the bin for the municipality. Also they collect lawn debris as long as it is properly encased in a paper bag. That's a large paper bag like the size of two or three grocery bags. So we do our gardening like trimming and pruning and weeding and we put them all in these bags and then they take them and compost them at their facility in the township. That's really fortunate for us because I'm just not made to compost. It intimidates me. I tried it once a long time ago. Very unsuccessfully. We take our aluminum cans of soda that friends of ours give to us to recycle to the local animal rescue shelter. No kill rescue. They take hundreds of bags and recycle them and get the money to use for the services for the animals. Kind of like charity donation of in kind sort of thing.

Hey, I just have a quick question about your compostables jar. Are all those cotton swabs in the compostables jar your own used cotton swabs? Like, you used them for cleaning out your ears? Just because quite a few of their ends look like they have chunks of earwax on them.

What are you thoughts on recycling that isn't actually happening? Large freighters are taking it to 3rd world countries and they're essentially burning it or dumping it into the ocean rather than actually recycling it. We're essentially just passing off the responsibility to poor people and severely polluting their water and ground and air. It's become a huge problem. I think about that when buying plastic wondering if, in fact, it actually WILL get recycled or if it will just end up in a landfill or polluting the environment in some far off place where people are suffering and getting sick from it. It really makes my head hurt knowing all the many ways we get duped every day into thinking we're doing the right thing only to later find out, nope, maybe not any better than the regular stuff we used to do. What's the answer to the problem though? Thoughts?
