Thanks for this set list. The Brazilian disco scene is something I always talk about here and now we have a great sample of this for the world to see that here we also had people thanking heaven for being a Friday and having night fever on a Saturday. Some suggestions I can leave for further disco sets with Brazilian songs are these: 1) Lady Zú. She was nicknamed "the Brazilian Donna Summer" by Carlos Imperial, a very important guy on our cultural scene and the one who discovered Roberto Carlos, Tim Maia, Elis Regina, Clara Nunes and a bunch of other important singers that defined our music scene from the 1960s to the 1980s. Her main success is "A Noite Vai Chegar" kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIaZZGVqmctsarM She also recorded a version for "A Banda" that I consider way better than the original one from Chico Buarque kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZXQooCZpNKtidU She still presents today and her concert is a great experience that I was lucky to watch; 2) Ronaldo Resedá. This guy died at a young age, but left some interesting songs, like "Kitsch Zona Sul": kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqKleKONZ7Kon9U And "Marrom Glacê": kzbin.info/www/bejne/joGQemOtrbiDetk 3) Dudu França. This guy's most important song is "Grilo na Cuca": kzbin.info/www/bejne/nITMmZpnmdWdd8k 4) Harmony Cats. An all-female band that left its mark on our disco scene, with songs like "Felicidade": kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5jIeaOcotljp6M 5) Frenéticas. For sure the most known Brazilian disco band. Wherever you are here in Brazil, no matter if it's a wedding, a prom, a bar-mitzva or what other celebration, probably you'll listen to "Dancin' Days", a song that was made for a soap opera with the same name: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIvXdXqLmcubhLM Another one that was part of a soundtrack was "O Preto que Satisfaz", for the soap opera "Feijão Maravilha": kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHPComibprlli9E 6) Gretchen. Foreigners may know her more because of animated GIF memes that circulate on the internet and even led Kate Perry to invite her for "Swish Swish" videoclip (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmG9h5R8hJyWfac), but here in Brazil she has a long career that started on the times when mirrored globes spinned on ceilings and lights came from below from dancing floors. For sure in a party here in Brazil you'll listen to "Conga, Conga, Conga": kzbin.info/www/bejne/pl63l2ahf9B0p80 And "Freak Le Boom Boom": kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIebc3ulitaKg9k

If you visit my city (São Paulo), I guess that you'll pass some time on shops that sell used records. Some of these albums are rarities even here and sometimes when someone puts a light on them it can even influence not only the music scene abroad but also our local music scene, as it happened when DJs from outside discovered the sambalanço and sampled it for some drum n' bass successes or when American rappers sampled songs from artists like Arthur Verocai (way more known there than here in Brazil), Ronnie Von and Gal Costa.

@@Andrepaulistano_ Drum and bass with a little Samba is a nice combo, wish that style took off more. I would love to visit Sao Paulo, I am pretty sure my old neighbors family live out there. They were very flattered by my knowledge of the form, I just absorbed a lot of Brazilian music through my jazz journey and love Bossa and Samba rhythm. I hope this world is treating you well bro.
@Andrepaulistano_
@Andrepaulistano_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@ioioio13 This combination of drum n' bass with samba by the hands of Marky, Ramilson Maia and Kaleidoscópio, just to tell a few ones, led to an interesting phenomenom here in São Paulo between mid-2000s and early-2010s: a plethora of clubs with samba-rock nights. Samba-rock can be considered the only typical dance of my city and can be danced not only with some sambalanços but also some specific rock songs, like "Hit the Road, Jack" (Ray Charles) and "Check My Machine" (Paul McCartney and even some other ones from other rhythms. Curiously, in São Paulo people are ashamed of bragging about some local cultural manifestations, something very on contrary from what I saw in Recife, that proudly nicknames itself as the capital of frevo. About my city, first of all you have to bear in mind that it's the largest on the Southern Hemisphere, being home of more than 10 million souls. It's also the most important economic center in Brazil and very marked by the immigration in the 20th century, something that made it being the largest Italian city outside Italy (40% of the Paulistanos have at least one ancestor from there), the largest Japanese city outside Japan (Brazil is the largest Japanese diaspora on the world), the largest Lebanese city outside Lebanon (there are more people of Lebanese descent in Brazil than in Lebanon) and also have important influences from the Portuguese (in this case, Rio has proportionally more people of Portuguese descent than here) and Spanish immigrations (Salvador has proportionally more people of Spanish descent than here and probably São Paulo wins in numerical terms the dispute of what Brazilian city is more Spanish). It must also be pointed that São Paulo had significant influxes from Germany and also people from Eastern Europe, mainly the Balkans and Russia, with the curiosity of having a neighborhood that was initially built by Lithuanians (Vila Zelina, on the Eastern side and still having some houses with the typical architecture). There was also influences from internal migration, being the one from the Northeastern region the main one, as it happened in significant numbers since the 1930s. There are also people of African descent in sizable numbers, mostly descending from former slaves and people living in small quilombos on the past (the Saracura being the most known and one of the roots of Bela Vista neighborhood, in the downtown area). As you can see, it's a cosmopolitan place since it was way smaller than Rio, passing it as the largest Brazilian city by the 1960s due to concentrating lots of industries and businesses from the service sector. Despite being larger than NY or LA, São Paulo isn't as organized as these cities. As other old Brazilian cities (São Paulo was founded in 1554, with the stablishment of a Jesuitic school in what now is the downtown area), it follows the Portuguese way of city planning, meaning lots of narrow and winding streets, a bit like what an old Euro town from Medieval times is built. There's also the curiosity that some trails used by the natives, called peabirus, became important road axis (South America has a path made by the Incans that goes from what now is Peru and Bolivia to what now is Brazil, as that former empire had some expansionist ambitions and traded with what now are Brazilian tribes some centuries before the arrival of the Portuguese navigators). Combine these old streets to a bad planning and this leads to traffic jams and difficulties on finding where some places are. Railroad transportatiion grows very slowly, but we have 377 km (234 mi.) combining subways and urban trains. If you live near a station, consider yourself a lucky person, as there are both advantages from going from point A to B and your household values, specially if you bought it when there wasn't rails. Most of public transportation travel is made by bus and here is the home of the largest urban bus fleet on the planet, with more than 13,000 circulating daily. Buses used to be very bad until the 2000s, when new laws practically made mandate most of them to be what a bus uses to be in U.S. or Europe (rear engine, low floor, air suspension and so on), with the advantage of having integration by electronic card, as that almost Medieval way of designing streets makes very hard to have the quantity of terminals a grid-like city can have. About the world treating me well, despite all this urban mess I said before, I consider myself lucky to live in São Paulo, as cosmopolitan cities like mine are hard to find in Brazil. I like living in a place where you have freedom to think the way you think without being stigmatized, something that can happen in some other places in my country. Freedom of thinking is one of those concepts that must be considered a right in the very same pantheon of freedom of speech and freedom of press, as thinking can be hindered by the spiral of silence. If it was to live in a smaller city with better standards of living, it'd have to be as cosmopolitan as São Paulo and here the only one I consider this is Florianópolis (400,000 inhabitants and curiously one of the few Brazilian capital cities that is smaller than the largest city in its state).

Probably better when you don't understand the lyrics and goes to show that it is really not that important. The vocals are just one part of the music, after all. I grew up listening to a lot of English or American music as a kid, way before I spoke a word of the language. It didn't stop me then, it won't stop anyone enjoying Brazilian music now either.
