The military government in Myanmar has said it has pardoned 3,300 prisoners and has moved the country's former leader Aung San Suu Kyi from prison to house arrest.
State media, quoting a spokesman for the junta, said extremely hot weather had caused Miss Suu Kyi and other elderly prisoners to be relocated as a precaution against heat stroke.
The Nobel laureate, Suu Kyi, has been in jail since she was ousted in a coup in 2021.
This news comes a week after the military suffered a significant defeat, losing control of the main border crossing into Thailand, as it continues to face a shortage of soldiers.

Poor country! In my humble opinion, the innocent civilians fleeing or caught up in the civil war in Myanmar should be able to relocate and resettle over to the vast ginormous bountiful resourceful Australia & New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region.. In fact, around 90% of Australia and New Zealand are completely empty today. Moreover, the vast majority of the population in those countries, tens of millions of Europeans from all over Europe brought in over to the Asia-Pacific region. - Burma would have been much better off without Anglo British Colonialism. There's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian there up until Colonialism. I suppose it's fair to say that many of these tragedies that nation facing today, such as racial, ethnic and religious conflicts, started with Colonialism. - Here in Singapore, a tiny island with 6 million souls lives like sardines in a can, elsewhere in nearby vast bountiful Australia which is ten thousand times 10,000 bigger with a mere 27 million inhabitants. - A similar situation in tiny and packed Japan, which is running out of space and land. Do you know that their living room and bedroom are the same place, and that most Japanese people sleep in their living room? - Here's the one solution I see. Why don't Burma's Rohingya Muslim, Hindu & Christian population, if they wish, move to a place like Anglo Colonized Australia/New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region? After all, these are Asia-Pacific lands looted from Native Asians-Pacific islanders. [For honest truths about Myanmar, pls read the informative, multi-page comments by 'Ms. Gregoria' at, "Myanmar remains in social and economic crisis since military seized power/BBC News": kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWG9n4SQeqeJq7c ]. It’s only BBC journalists are reporting about atrocities and minorities discontent in other countries should fight for this minorities would do something to help this people to be welcomed in UK , as it’s brave and warm UKs population would welcome this discontent and sad people.

....they didn;t come for the rohingya first. A couple other ethnicities would work better. Years of propaganda and programming can have that effect on a population.

@@Setsuna1 Yeah for sure. What I don't understand is why Aung San Su supported the military during the rohinga crisis. She would have global support if she went against the military during that time. Instead she chose to go against the army after her reputation was tarnished and Myanmar's global standing went down due to her mishandling of the crisis. And that too for a new legislation that even a blind man would see that the army would oppose. Sadly she didn't have any allies left by that time, the world had moved on from Myanmar, focusing on a different conflict.

@@kelzangyoeser5133 Naw, that's a fair point. She gambled and lost. The other side of it, had she done the opposite and stood up at the time, coup happens then, would anything really be any different? You'd get the same platitudes from countries and can't see anything else really shaking out any differently.
