So did I. Except I did the breaking the stick part with my mama aluminum broom then hid it. She beat my ass, when I confessed days later of breaking it and lying about not knowing where it was. My only saving grace is that I slayed that dance routine so it wasn't for nothing.

Maya you’re a huge part of my childhood. I looked up to you, Aaliyah and Selena. Growing up I wanted to be a singer and dancer just like y’all. I remember as a child, my biological Dad bought me a karaoke machine for Christmas. The first song I sang on it was ghetto superstar! Also I remember making up a whole choreography dance to this song right here. And it helped me to help choreographer quinceanera dances when I got older. So thank you love 💕

***** ill be honest. i dissagree with u BIG TIME!... stripping all the PR of the artists u named... down to talent.. Mya cant compare her voice to Beyonces... Mya cant compare the AURA and LIGHT and FIERCNESS that Britney Spears projected and oozed on stage with those outfits and numbers.. and Aaliyah, was SOOO PRETTY and had catchy songs... UNFORTANLY for Mya, she got handed the Brandy, Monica, Amerie and Latoya Jackson card... theyre avg. looking. mya is not beautiful.. she has a wierd face... she can dance, but NOT to the level of britney. Britney when she dances, is MUCH MORE than just a dance,,, its POWER. Myas voice is VERY WEAK doll like. pleasant but forgettable...and Aaliyah just had SWAGGER and was SOO DOWN TO EARTH!!! that being said, THIS SONG was a MAJOR MAJOR hit for the era.. BUT unfortantly, it got a bit lost with the OTHER EPIC MUSIC INDUSTRY CHANGING HITS that were released at the same time... MYAs issue was 2 things, lack of looks and lack of IMAGE.. she always portrayed this frizzy black hair ballet dancer... which didnt morph into woman until it was WAY too late. that was brandys issues too.. but i LOVE THIS SONG. it was so catchy.. and i STILL dont understadn her part in Lady Marmalade... i think that part shouldve gone to someone with more star power, more vocals, more looks..

J StarMoore Heh, I've just had a good long stare at her face but I don't see what you see. She just looks like a very pretty girl. Her features seem all in proportion, nothing hints towards being 'a bit slow in the face' (haha) as you put it. Of course, its all subjective.

Don’t ask me the name of the song, but this morning I heard something on the radio after the alarm went off, the entire song had 3 different lines, 2 of which alternated repeating for almost a minute straight. That’s true talent for a song, this one has too many words and awesome dancing. 😂😂😂 In other words, this song is too complicated for some people nowadays and they need the 2 line songs stick on repeat.

God I love this woman, and I think what sucks the most about her struggle to stay a recording artist is her natural talent, this woman is a trained dancer, and in a time where I had Brandy, Aaliyah, and Monica, who were all so dope, this chick came through with the expected pretty face, voice, and catchy songs, but she was also a trained dancer in multiple styles including Tap, that had to count for something, but ultimately it didn't, what the fuck?

+Lućifer Grandê Tinashe is obviously inspired by Janet, but Aaliyah and Mya have had no noticeable impact on Tinashe as an artist. What did they ever do that Janet didn't do first, and better? Nothing.. so how could Tinashe be inspired by them if she's already inspired by the original? As far as the Janet clones go, I'd put Tinashe before Mya but after Aaliyah and Ciara. I love them all though, Janet's just so great that anyone copying her formula is going to be good too.

+Tinker B So what is a lot of skin here? Showing your middrift LMAO. This isn't "a lot of skin" at all. Nobody said they weren't showing any skin back then, and we all know sex sells. Sex, drugs, and violence has been selling since the dawn of time. However, there was a major difference in how it was done and how it was pushed to the public. And no, not every pop star was doing it either.

+Sosmcs See You are right this isn't the nineties. However the song was recorded in 1999. The video was released on August 28, 2000. However the year was titled 1999 at first in the description box. So I am not the only one making mistakes. Either way they still had more class than a lot of video chicks today lol. So @Tinker B Mya is not showing a lot of skin. Showing a little cleavage, stomach and back is a lot of skin? Please. Get real. Mya rocked this video, dance wise and fashion wise. Kick rocks.

I was helping him at the shop during the summer 2000 and bought this Mya album. When my dad picked me up, we BLASTED this song in my dad’s 2000 Acura 😂 It was a moment I’ll never forget.
