You just can't beat flip-throughs for ASMR. Crisp, soft, whispering voice; the nice, slow page-turning sounds; the gum-chewing; the visual tingles with the famous brush and soft tracing!! Concludes with some beautiful tapping. Always different too, with magazines! All of it makes the eyes heavy and before you know it 😴. Nicole, you get the ASMR Gold!!

I don’t know why but the Lysol ad got my attention and I decided to google it… this is a quote from a Smithsonian article, “According to historian Andrea Tone, “feminine hygiene” was a euphemism. Birth control was illegal in the U.S. until 1965 (for married couples) and 1972 (for single people). These Lysol ads are actually for contraception. The campaign made Lysol the best-selling method of contraception during the Great Depression.” Interesting and so glad we live in a time where we don’t do this anymore!
@MyASMRAddiction2 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thanks for the info! I had no idea. I can't imagine how lysol can be a contraception. Like after the fact?? Ummm... sounds like an ineffective method to me.
@michaeladrieling39122 жыл бұрын
“Of course, as Wade points out, this still wasn’t a good idea: Lysol might have been corrosive to the sperm but it also damaged tissue inside the woman. And in fact the Lysol used back then was far stronger than our Lysol is today. Hundreds of people died from Lysol exposure, some of them women using it as birth control. Nicole Pasulka at Mother Jones writes: By 1911 doctors had recorded 193 Lysol poisonings and five deaths from uterine irrigation. Despite reports to the contrary, Lysol was aggressively marketed to women as safe and gentle. Once cresol was replaced with ortho-hydroxydiphenyl in the formula, Lysol was pushed as a germicide good for cleaning toilet bowls and treating ringworm, and Lehn & Fink’s, the company that made the disinfectant, continued to market it as safeguard for women’s “dainty feminine allure.” As if that wasn’t bad enough, Lysol isn’t even an effective contraceptive.” That was the rest of the article. I guess Lysol did more harm than any good!

my parents got married in March 1958💖 Wollensak Optical was an American manufacturer of audio-visual products located in Rochester, New York. At the height of their popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, many brands of movie cameras came with a Wollensak Velostigmat lens. Wollensak reel-to-reel tape recorders were prized for their robust construction and value In the 1960s, Wollensak was the choice tape recorder for amateur home, school, and office uses. They were produced in both stereo and mono designs. I think the name is originally German.

I miss life before the internet. And I’m kind of a true crime fan by default. I used to watch “regular” ASMR videos exclusively. There were a certain videos during certain stretches of time that I *had* to watch every night to fall asleep, and in fact I preferred videos in which the content was almost irrelevant so I could just get in the ASMR “zone.” However, as my anxiety worsened over the years, I found that I needed a narrative to listen to in order to keep my attention focused on stuff other than all the thoughts in my head making me anxious. 😕
