I've always been fascinated with the history of Miletus since it basically predates all of the other Ionian-Greek cities in Asia Minor. Great stuff man, and your visuals keep getting better!

The ability of a minor noble/peasant like Hercules to get legendary status and rise through the ranks so fast no matter his skill shows the general decline already at play at Mycenean society for it's most prestigious and fundamental caste system was that much weakened and eroded for Heracles to happen

Looking at this, my theory that Agamemnon's expedition to Troy did not took place around 1190 or 1180 BC; most likely it ocurred during Mycenaean's apex, possibly around 1250 or 1240 BC, when he was the Achaen king known as "Great King" by the Hittites.

This decline was caused by internal turmoil in mainland Greece, such as 7 Against Thebes campaign. But most importantly, it was caused by Atreus-Thyestes throne conflict in Mycenae. The Greek mythology provides us an accurate explanation for this Myceaean crisis in around 1230 BCE.

Also a mycenean defeat can be compared to battle of leuctra in 371 bce. Remember after Athens defeat in Peloponnesian War. Sparta was hegemon of Greece… But Athens quikly rose again and was able to opose Sparta . So Sparta was the not 100 procent hegemon of Greece . But Sparta was able to keep arcadia and messinia in Line . But it meant a Series of wars of wars between Sparta and her allies and Athens and her allies. A situation that the persians was fine with… So the persians used this keep the mainland greeks fighting each other . That also meant that the greek citystates in western anatolia once again returned under persians rule . Remember they were reason why the greeks and persians went to war. The rebelled against and Athens supported the rebillion . But the major powers on mainland were busy fighting each other . Sparta had just like ancient mycenae been one of major players in mainland greek politics of centuries… Fot almost 300 years Sparta was almost newer defeated in battle … And made it possible for have influnce over messinia and arcadia. But in 371 bce Sparta went against thebes… And the two armies met at leuctra in beotia. And there Sparta was defeated… And sent chock waves through Greece . Its like a dam of water breaking. Once the flood gates were opened. A shitload of trouble was heading Sparta Way. With theban support. Messinia and arcadia rebelled gained their independe. And Sparta went from being superpower in greek world to a second rate power . While Thebes became the new rising power in Greece . And I can imagene something similar happened to mycenae after. Suddeny mycenae was weak after Athens defeated Them . And would only a matter of time before pylos, Sparta , argos and other places broke away from mycenaen overlordship. While Athens was the new superpower in the greek bronze age world and would use the mycenaen weakness to their advantage…It can explain why there suddenly appared the classic mycenaen citidel Walls around the acropolis… The wannax(King of Athens ) had something to show. He and his city had just crushed the hegemon of Greece . And now he was sending a messeage to rest of bronze age world by building these Walls . Dont mess with us or else…

Oh yes and since mycenae now enters decline. It means the rise of Athens .So this could mean that the late mycenean greek world was properbly split into two factions . Myceneae and the citystates that supported her against the King of Athens and his allies. It would expain why the myceneans Greeks lost of Miletos. The greeks citystates were to busy fighting each other…. Well nothing New there . It happened in classic times . So why not in the bronze age . And was properbly a situation that the hitttites was happy about . So if would mean that just like persians did during Peloponnesian Wars. The Hittites played a classic game of devide and Conquer. The hittitties were allied with greek city States and hostile towars other. And its possible that Athens fought wars against mycenae and her allies payed with hittitie Gold . Remember Sparta only defeated Athens in Peloponnesian wars. Because they Got persian Gold and a navy… And after that the persians supported Athens against Sparta … So keeping greeks fighting each other would something that the Hittites would be very interesting in keep going on . Because it mean that the greeks could not cause trouble in western anatolia … They persians did used those tactics when dealing with the mainland greek citystates during the classic age . So it could Something that Hittites also used the keep the greeks away from causing trouble …

...The Greek Dark Ages and Dorian invasion came after this.
@madsdahlc
@madsdahlc 3 жыл бұрын
@@wildfire9280 nor quite. DNA research carried out on remains from mycenaen tombs and modern greeks had shown that they are related . So there is a continuty from ancient times to now . The greeks ancestors migrated into Greece . Where they settled down and merged with Local population sometime before the bronze age started . And because of Contacs with civilisations like the minoans , Babylon and egypt etc. Greek civilisation ernerged. Local dialect like ionian, doric etc evoled Independently . Yes there was Dark age . But most modern historians reject the dorian invasion . And tre Dark ages has also come under attack . Because New archeologial has shown that the greeks in “dark age” has kept trade contact with the east… So no dorian invasion and properbly a decline . So the dark ages was not so dark…
